Surviving Our first Overnight Camping Trip With a 2 Year Old
Beau graduated from back yard camping to the real deal! In typical CAMO style, it dropped to below freezing over night, but he handled it like a champ. We packed up camp and hit up seven springs for lunch and popped in to Living Treasures Animal park before heading home for dinner.

Central Appalachian Mountain Overland - Tech Tuesday 001: Tires for Overlanding
zhlédnutí 75Před 4 měsíci
This week's tech Tuesday covers a basic/entry level understanding of Tires in the context of overloading. This video covers 3 types of overland tires, choosing the right tire, how to properly air down for the trail, and a comparison of street pressures versus aired down when going over an obstacle.

this car is not built for off road
Tengo que pavimentar el area para mis vehiculos, asi se dan mal aspecto,😂😂😂
i try to keep it well under the height of my tires. I do have extended breather tube on my rear diff. But I don't go out of my way testing this. It's just insurance.
Lol. I have a 48 year old BMW 2002 that is bone stock that could cross that puddle.
are these bbs sti wheels
I wanna see what happened after the video was cut because I see a lot of smoke
Cold water touching hot exhaust equals steam
Imagine being a fish telling the ancestors you were ran over by a car😂
I am cackling
😂
Ohhhh she’s minttttt! little steam did nothing but clean.. 🧼 you could chuck it off a cliff and it would still drive. lol
Air intake is at ~75cm
Nice winch bar

Hell yea!!!
Nada 😂
I see what ya did there 🤣
Looks like The Daniel Boone BackCountry Byway. 👊
You know it!
@@Traddadtales Mountain Springs Road 👍
doing this with no snorkel exhaust is crazy
Nah he was fine there. Just a puddle. We did some crossings later that were pretty damn deep though and borderline too deep for no snorkels. I posted that as a full video yesterday
JKUR has like 29" of water fording ability, stock. Then once you add a lift and tires it goes up more. This never even covered the tops of his tires. He was fine.

Good info. I'm always surprised at the number of folks who still use ply ratings for load. Secondarily: my wife and I are fulltime nomads. We've been running Cooper ST Maxx tires since they came out. They're an extremely well rounded tire in capability, toughness and wear. I typically get 50,000 on a set with a lot of that towing a 3500lb trailer. For us that's 2 years a set. Much better than the MT's I tried for 6 months (13,000 miles to half tread). I'll stick with my hybrid AT tires. Thirdarily, thanks for cutting up a tire to show us its construction
You’re the second person this week to recommend the STT Maxx tires! I definitely want to try them!
I am just commencing upon building my first Highway Overlander with the idea I amy go to great distance to visit National And State FOrests and Parks. My Platform is a 2012 Ram 2500 Cummins 4WD Crew Cab 6'4" Box. Just last week on Friday I took delivery of my WARM 16.5 TI-S Winch and only yesterday took delivery of my AEV HD Off-Road Front Bumper. I am really partial to Cooper Tires and the tentative plan is to have a Carli "Back Country" 3" Lift suspension installed to accomadate 37"s. I am sewriously considering running Cooper XLT AT3's on this rig and wanted to get your thoughts on that tire, as well, as, ask you what in your belief is Coopers (RT) Tire equivalent that you would run if you were not going to go with the XLT AT3 if that were not the right choice?
Love a nice full sized build! So I actually ran that tire on my armada and wasn’t terribly fond of it. On road it was very good and exceptionally comfortable, but anything with snow or earthy/muddy terrain it really struggled, more so than other AT tires that I’ve ran. I didn’t get the greatest tread wear out of them but I also had a minor alignment issue in the rear so that may have attributed to it some. I am a massive fan of the Falken Wildpeak AT3, of all the tires I’ve ran, they’ve been my favorite. The tread depth is the deepest of the big name ATs and I’ve had them last forever. I currently have Kenda KR628s (Their AT) and it’s a very good tire as well. I actually have them on my Armada and the frontier at the moment. Some other tires to consider that I’ve seen handle and last exceptionally well would be Kendas RT and the new Mickey Thompson Baja Boss.
@@Traddadtales It would appear by browsing Falken's Website that the Wildpeak AT3W's have been replaced by a newer model Wildpeak AT4W's with improvements that have definitely caught my eye, the reason I was considering the Cooper AT3 XLT's was because it was the only one in the bunch of biggies that offer a 60,000 miles treadlife warranty vs. the 50-55,000 typically found in offroad AT tires, your thoughts???
@@dugefresh7063If it’s me, I’m sticking with either the at3 or the at4 from falken.
sickkkkkkkk

It's smoking already. Is the car damaged?
Just steam, it made it the next 200 miles off-road no issue
Steam from water touching hot parts not smoke
WORLD PEACE
If only!!!
Nothing its an abyss to a waterfall conected to a hotspring encroached upon by society As this is the nature of life it is nothing.

Isn't it though it could just be more road the imagination is beautiful😊
Dumb useless test who driving in that much water every day. No one i know. Cup holders too. What a clueless test
Well, he is. He overlands with this car all the time.
What a useless comment. Go back to mom's basement.
Awesome Bronco
Do the DRLs put off any usable light or just for looks? Meaning if you ran with just DRLs on.
They don’t project any, think of it as big cab lights. They do make a really sweet glow though
And sheet metal
I had to hesitate to see if my phone was ringing. That's been my ring tone for 4 years! CKY!!!!
Hell yeah!!!!!! 🤘🏼
God bless America and ford rangers!!! 🎉🎉❤🤍💙💪🏻

And still had to tie off to the guy ahead lol
I was on the winch remote just laughing. He couldn’t hear me telling him to save the gas over the angry sounds of the v8 😂
Iev done this in my 03 H6 outback. They all have great off reading cultural backgrounds and abilities. One of my favorite things to do after getting my 2 inch lift on my last outback was to go to Southington off road park in Ohio and drive around until I found a stuck truck. I would pull him out and unless it was really crazy then drive through what they were stuck on. I got alot of thank you but F-u's. Lol loved it had alot of great times in it and that's why I got another one
I've had this experience on a sandy Island I used to hang out on. Our cars just float the sand, we are light and capable. But Trucks get stuck all the time in areas I can just crawl thru. Even Big Trucks with Big tAT tires and 4x4 power. Of course it's partially understanding what you are driving. It's easy to get stuck in a truck in the sand. Just floor it and you are bottomed out if you have aggessive tires. It's all about throttle control. And if you have a big heavy truck with aggressive tires, you need to air down. We can air down for better performance, but I can float sand without doing that with my oversized tires and this lightweight vehicle.
Depends on what’s been modified!! Differentials have breather tubes that can bring in water, and the stock air filter box is too low as well. Gotta make some modifications if you’re doing that stuff
I thought this was a real truck at first🤣🤣🤣
Lmao I have some more scale things to post tomorrow
Where did you get the rack mount?
MCI fab. It’s actually the second gen xterra rack that’s meant to bolt to the roof rack
@@Traddadtales do you have a link for that?
@@silver_trek_AWD they also have a cage but I couldn’t commit to the size, although, now that the roof is already drilled who knows I may get it too lol mci-fab.com/products/2nd-gen-2005-nissan-xterra-low-profile-light-bar-mount

That's allot of light! I put an OEM style roof rack on my SV. 18 holes and rivnuts in a perfectly good roof. Measured and mocked up several times. lol
I’m a pretty calm person but I sat there and anxiously measured my holes probably 10-15 times before I finally drilled lol.
No comments about the nerdy black gloves, I didn’t take them off between spreading sealant and unboxing 😅
I would watch full length videos if you posted them
Working on more! Thank you! I have a couple 🙏 March 16 we’re headed to Kentucky.
Yeah the song does suck.
Nickelback slander will not be tolerated 🪦
Awh man that’s light wheelin. Come to Kentucky in April with us and put her thru her paces. And the oem tie rods are about bulletproof until 37’s 😊
We’ll be on the byway in 3 weeks 💪🏻 I’d say some of the trails over in Vinton County are as hard or harder than most of the KAT and DBBB though. Definitely not as many, but some of them are pretty serious.
@@Traddadtales I still need to visit Vinton one of these days myself. I always drive right by on the way to KY or WV
@@TriStateOverland there’s a line I took there that made me pucker about the same as I did on the first hairpin on Blackbear lol. Ended up straddling a trench over a crest and the top had a 10-12 foot drop right below my ass 😂. We’ll have to throw a summer shin-dig with CAMO and TSO out there and finally bring the band together 😂
Someone once told me if you use traction boards to get unstuck then you weren’t really stuck
100% Me personally, if my options are use the boards or stay stuck, I’m painting a face on a volleyball and naming it Wilson.
Shes locked up tighter than the county jail.❤
🤙🏼💪🏻
Did you air down? I run open/ open on my Toyota, and when I run into these problems most of the time I can air down and climb up with out slipping.
He was aired down to comfort levels I’m sure but not wheeling pressures. As usual this obstacle is a little more aggressive than the video shows lol. My short with my frontier climbing that I posted earlier is the same spot
@@Traddadtales I hear that, still looked like a good time!
@@YOTAMC5 I usually drop to 14-15psi and worry about my tire health later 😂
@@Traddadtales hahah fac I’ve been told if you don’t have beed lockers don’t go lower than 10psi. Shit I’ve had mine at 8psi waiting to blow it off the beed! Held going through the trail I was running. As long as you got an air compressor you ain’t got no worries airing down
