I love the amount of colour and tonal contrast there is these pianos. Far more than modern pianos. The closest I've experienced (though it's very different so not exactly apples with apples comparison) is the newer fazioli pianos and the Shigeru kawai.

I really wish we could go back to this instead of the overpowered sound of a modern piano. This is what I fell in love with.

That Erard sounds gorgeous! A little too much compression on some of the louder parts of the recording but still ❤

It's interesting to see how most of people here are for Pleyel which, as we all know, was favored by Chopin, while Liszt hated Pleyel for being too quiet for playing in the concert halls. It's understandable. We now have microphones and yes, for intimate saloon playing Pleyel was better for sure. 😁

The Pleyel is almost like bells. It sounds like it has a moderator stop

Yes understand why Chopin choose Pleyel. For me Erard is closer or just nice change because Mendelssohn sounds great on it

Waouw! Comment ne pas tomber amoureux d’un tel instrument. Liberté d’harmonie, subtilité et légèreté du toucher. Le rêve absolu. On rêve simplement de l’entendre dans un répertoire où on le puisse laisser plus libre de son chant, particulièrement au niveau du relevé de touche. Ah! Un bon petit Forqueray, Rameau, voire dans un plus « vieux pour lui » d’Anglebert. Quant à pouvoir lui laisser m’apprendre quelque petites choses d’importance du bout des doigts et touches! I far prefer the Erard. It sounds full and fully alive. The Pleyel sounds tired and listless, at least to my ears.

That was Berceuce not a nocturne on the Pleyel.

I can totally understand why Chopin preferred the Pleyel.

The comparison test wasn't done properly. Identical shorter passages played on each piano would have would have been far more beneficial to the listeners. This video was a great idea but it seems that no serious thought was put into achieving the actual comparison objective for anyone other than the pianist who gets to touch the instruments.

I thought the playing was with too much pedal on both pianos. I would love to hear a more spare version

Hmmm.. we all know Scarlatti's "cat fugue", and now we discover the "dog sonata", "K9"... All jokes aside... a fine performance, on a lovely instrument! It should be sampled ASAP!

Pleyel is very good.

Of course Pleyel sounds far better as Erard. But it's seems to me both instruments are still dead. Whether the micros were ill placed and/or the temperament was tuned to equal one but the resonance is missing wich would give real life and colors to the pianos. Can you please tell me wich temperament is used?

I dont know whether they are (too) loud or not, they sound beautifull in this recording with my headphones on😊, very intimate and clear at the same time

Breathtaking design but the everybody can afford part disappointed me a bit, the car I'm driving since two years cost half of the harpi :-)
