Highlights (from many hours of video) of a pair of mourning doves as they raise their chicks and send them off. See the parents raise a brood of chicks (squabs) and encourage them to leave the nest. During the first 14 days, both parents take turns sitting on the two eggs, with almost constant occupation of the nest. And then during the next 14 days, both parents will feed the squabs by bringin...

Here is a close up view of mourning doves in the wild and how they interact to incubate and then raise a brood of chicks. I believe that the mourning doves do communicate with each other as they take turns incubating the eggs and then feeding the nestlings. This video covers the first 15 days from when the second egg is laid to when they hatch and get their first feeding from both the mom and d...

So this is the last of a series of videos of the House Finch birds. I put together key moments during the 5 weeks when the House Finches make a nest, lay the eggs, and raise the six chicks until they are able to fly away on their own. This is almost all new footage (not a repeat of my previous videos) of the birds and chicks. You'll see the mother House Finch prepare the nest, lay the first egg...

All six chicks are growing up and seem to be eating constantly. The mom and dad House Finch parents are frantically taking turns making food runs from dawn to dusk. The chicks now range in age from 10 to 6 days old and seem to be as big as their parents! And now the mom doesn't even fit on the nest with the chicks!

Yaay, all the eggs have hatched! Oh no, now there are 6 more mouths to feed! Watch this video of the House Finch parents trying to keep up with their growing brood! The feeding schedule has been arduous with the House Finch birds feeding the chicks about twice an hour from dawn to dusk. The mother will tend to stay with the chicks but both the male and female will go out and bring back food for...
Day 3 for House Finch chicks

A fourth House Finch bird hatches and competes for food I've been watching two House Finch birds diligently make a nest and then lay 6 eggs. The female bird has been patiently incubating the eggs for the last two weeks and three days ago the first two chicks hatched. During the next two days, two more chicks were hatched with the fourth one just hours ago. Take a look for those who are interested!

Two newborn House Finches are eating for the first time. Watch the red-colored male feed the female house finch who in turn will feed the chicks. Even though the chicks cannot see yet, they know that the food is there and eat up! This is day 1 for the two House Finch chicks. I took the picture of the eggs the day before and since it had been 14 days since the first egg was laid, I knew that the...
