Going deeper into the world of high quality, affordable mechanical watches, this channel reviews watches AND explored the process of modifying and building them with your own hands.
The Namoki GS Dive Watch case review
This video is a review of Namoki’s GS Dive Watch case and bracelet bundle with a close-up look at two builds which I did using the case. I really am pleased with both of them and I would encourage an ADVANCED builder to use the opportunity to build a piece with one of these.

I have created this series of videos as a step-by-step playlist to help you build your MB78 DIY watch kit OR any simple dive watch kit from Namoki or other suppliers. [This playlist does NOT include information on how to install a chapter ring, how to install a crystal and how to install a bezel and spring]. I will list links below to each of the videos. The San Martin 62 mas is one of my favourite watches regardless of where it is from. I love it. I also have the mechanical chronograph and again it's one of my favourites. In total I think I have eight more San Martin watches.
@MrPinkfloyd I agree. San Martin have successfully showed the Swiss Watch industry up for what it is: a game of smoke and mirrors.
How can i male Sure that Beuel and chaptering are matching my case???
If you buy a chapter ring and a bezel insert made for the SKX007 from the Namoki website, they will fit. I also have links for the white on black GMT chapter ring and the Batman GMT bezel insert below my video.
Agree with this review. It's an amazing watch. Finish is very good. Wear mine on a black rubber
They do wear so well on Black rubber. Thanks for the support.
I love these GS cases from Namoki, Excellent value!
Yes they are! I’m glad you’ve had hands on experience. I was blown away by this bundle. Considering it includes crown and bracelet, the price is strong and the quality is amazing
Would using a NH38 be easier?
The NH38 has no date complication and this dial has a date window. Apparently this dial is a little thicker than others, therefore it is beyond tolerance.
@@watchmebuildit thanks for your reply! I forgot about the dial having a date window, my bad. I am considering a no date milsub dial with this case. Thanks for your video! I hope that the namoki milsub dial is not as thick if not I might just buy the Baltic Dual Crown.
You may be onto a winner with the milsub dial. If you do need to reduce the thickness of the movement holder, it really is not difficult. I have made a how-to video just for that
You deserve a lot more subscribers.
I appreciate that!
I don't understand why every bracelet is not built with the glidefit or t-fit type of clasp anymore. It can't cost all that more.
I am SOOO with you. Microadjust is helpful, but on-the fly is the BIZ. I found a great aftermarket clasp with on the fly and would have used it here, but the smallest clasp is 18mm and this strap is 16mm
@@watchmebuildit awesome. AliE link? You rock.
@@watchmebuildit They just need to figure out how to slim them down a bit, they all seem to be monstrosities. But then I like old style Rolex hollow links that clink and jingle on the wrist, so there's that I guess.
Hi Neal. The link for the clasp is in the description below the video
Hey there Lee. Truth be told, I was really IMPRESSED at how well this case wears. With the flat sapphire, it’s only 13mm thick. The bracelet is also very wearable with 20mm - 16mm dimensions. But your point is valid, kinda like the new ‘Mini’ vs. the original or the new Fiat 500 vs. The original - all of our modern requirements have swelled the size for sure.
Very nice build, you right chapter ring is not very readable. Maybe dial with 24 markers around standard ones would work better? I used it for my GMT build and it is more visible.
Thanks Tom! I really enjoyed this one
I’m usually not fan of Chinese brand names but Seestar fits and looks so well on a diver. The only thing I would critique is the bracelet, it’s just too thick at the clasp area. If it would only taper down from 20mm to 16mm.
Hi @adamw7411 - you are right, certain Chinese brands are investing heavily where it counts. Apparently Seestern is ‘Starfish’ in German - which makes sense! If 2mm on the bracelet at the clasp is your greatest concern, then I’d say they’ve done really well
@@watchmebuildit I have a small wrist and those 2mm on bracelet does have a big difference. Also it would look modern that way.
I would like to sidebar with you on custom logos with lume on the dial (12 o'clock position) and custom crowns with lume. Do you know where I can send my logo to get them printed on the dial and crown? Please say yes.
Sheesh! What a question. I’ve reached out to two guys on IG this far. Depthcharge Time was a disaster and I wouldn’t even try. Seikonda Custom Dial has been helpful, but he’s recovering from a family crisis and a little overloaded at the moment. He may well be able to help in the future. One guy that seems to have his stuff stitched together well is Koda Watches. I’ve never dealt with him, but he may be worth asking. There is also Red5 watches, but I think he’s closed his books to new clients. All of them are on Instagram
I have this 37mm seestern and also a Seiko SLA043 and a Prospec SPB297. The Seestern is an excellent homeage! I love this watch and its under $200.
That is an excellent perspective to have. I haven’t had the privilege of handling the ‘real McCoy’. I wonder - if it was a ‘blind’ test, if you had them side-by-side with no logo, would you say there is a noticeable difference?
@@watchmebuildit yes, bezel action, case finishing, weight of the watch, sound of the rotor. Dial texture/coloring…really depends on how deep you are into this hobby. Also its all about the movement if you are deep into the game.
@@timchan334 thank you for taking the time to reply. It’s really good to have the thoughts of a person like yourself who owns both.
thanks, can u tell what size the screwdriver is please.
It’s the grey screwdriver from the set. Nib size 1.4mm
will 1.3 or 1.5 works? can u please try and let me know, so that I can buy or ask namoki to arrange one for me. for this bracelet
I just bought one, i will give it a try on the bracelet I have for the spare links I haven't damaged.
I would use the 1.3 to be safe. Also, if you don’t have Q20, you could soak the links in hot water for 5 minutes to heat them up. The thinking is that something like Locktite may have been used on the threads and heat will soften it up
Oh wow thats a nice advise thanks dear for this tip
you should do a review on the Namoki BB 58, its been a year and what's the wear and tear, I had a hard time unscrewing the bracelet links and I damaged it, so only replacement/new is a solution, how is u experience.
That’s a good idea - although I modded mine and it became the base for this idea 😄. So if you look at this video where I introduce the MB78, at the end I compare the new model with an old one - the old one IS the BB58. I’m sorry about the tight pins. In future if you encounter that problem, squirt a little Q20 onto the link and leave it for 10 minutes before trying again. czcams.com/video/LL8fVQIQ8ZQ/video.htmlsi=zSMz5fG66qX2TJ8P
Beautiful piece! I’m going to buy it, but I’m a little bit afraid of the build process. This will be my first watch to build. Do you have any advice? I’ve also bought the required toolset from Namoki, but I noticed that installing the hands can be tricky..
Hey @Campappa21, that is AMAZING news. Don’t be nervous at all. It really is quite straightforward if you take your time. Watch these two videos for step-by-step help: Building Namoki’s homage to the BB58 czcams.com/video/14uQ8qPdOS8/video.html Watch Me Build a Dual Crown Dive Watch czcams.com/video/tqiPHe6ejs8/video.html
Also… if you’ve bought the tools separately, be sure to select the ‘no tools’ option on the kit or else you willl end up with two sets.
@@watchmebuildit Thank you very much! I’m really excited 🤗
@@watchmebuildit Thank you! Unfortunately Namoki sent me the wrong movement with the kit. They packed the NH70 Skeletonized Movement instead of the NH35. The NH70 also includes some metal ring (spacer), tabs and screws but I don't have the gray movement spacer :( I've already contacted them, I hope they will send me an NH35...
Oh No! That is truly surprising. They seldom make mistakes, but when they do, they are quick to fix them. It’s a pity the movement ring was not included because the NH70 is perfect for this build - you don’t have a ‘ghost’ position on the crown since it is a time only movement. The upside is that my build playlist will go live in the next 24 hours, so you can use that for your step-by-step
Congrats on this project! It looks great! Here is to many more!
Cheers Sparkplugbarrens
Congratulations! It looks like a beautiful watch. If it were a 42mm case I'd pick one up. I understand why it isn't, but I have a 7.5 inch wrist, that makes anything under 40 just look too small. Wish you all the best. Happy Birthday-day to Namoki!
Cheers Tom. What can I say - Big Guys deserve their sweet spot too 😉
This is why I don't buy used watches.
Wise man 😉
I've been looking at the NRX kit, would you advise a total novice doing this?
Absolutely! No better starting point than one of Namoki’s DIY kits.
They come with a Seiko or a Mingzhu movement so which one is this?
Hi @billsiviter - this video was made before the Seiko movements proliferated. So this is a Mingzhu movement. If you have an option of a Seiko movement, take it. There’s no comparison between the architecture of the two movements - Seiko is WAY better
Oh! Thank you for watching!
seestern is a german woed for starfish
Thank you @earllangcay6637
Nice build! I dont understand what you did with the movement? Is it a 3 o clock or a 4 o clock? Very nice
Thanks @Harvin 87. I am pointing out that this is a 4 o’clock crown position. So this influences which of the dial feet you retain and which ones you remove.
@@watchmebuildit oh yes, I understand. Thanks , and congratulations on your build. I am going to try that case myself soon.
One of my favourite builds. If you can pick up a mesh strap, it takes it to new levels. s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_Ews58jD
Do you turn the threaded crown clockwise or counterclockwise to wind the barrel?
The crown is not screw down on this watch. You turn in clockwise to wind
@@watchmebuildit thank you! If I accidentally turn it counterclockwise, will it be defective?
Not at all! You can turn it in either direction. When you are winding the watch you will feel a ‘buzz’ in your fingers. I would recommend you turn it 40 times in the morning. It will feel ‘tighter’ or ‘stronger’ when the spring is wound - do not turn it past this point as you could break the spring on this watch
@@watchmebuildit thank you so much.
@@watchmebuildit "How many hours of power reserve does the Phylida Speedmaster have?"
Seestern is German for Starfish
Thank you @rocklinrc - a few of my subscribers have helped me right with this one.
Your mods look great! Its strange that this comes with a mineral crystal the specs on their website say the following: Crystal: "Acrylite 8N specialty vintage high-dome acrylic" Depending on how the crystal is mounted I have had great success replacing sapphire crystals with Sternkreuz accrylics (ATCT) while maintaining WR for that acrylic vibe. Don't look down on 100m WR dive watches, in the early days Cousteau and all the SCUBA pioneers used watches with 100m or less and non-click bezels (except for BP who started the unidirectional thing. In fact the ISO standards came in around the mid Nineties, well past the heyday of dive watches as essential bottom timing tools so mostly the ISO certification ironically had zero impact on any watches acually used for that purpose.
@Leec - a super helpful post. Thank you. I may have misunderstood the composition of the crystal. If it is acrylic I should be able to buff out any minor scratches. If that is the case, I owe DWC an apology! Thank you too for your insight regarding specification on WR. You are absolutely on the money, for the purposes of most mortals 100m is more than enough.
Are the dial markers that green normally or are the studio lights just setting off the green lume? Cool builds 👍 My favourite sub case shape. I like the milsub sub look too.
I tweaked the colour settings on the video for better ‘pop’ but that did upscale the green. It is a great case though. Check out the unboxing video, I think that gives a better look at the colour of the dial
@@watchmebuildit cheers, yeh it's a little more subdued in that one. I quite like the dial as something with a little uniqueness, but great to know there's plenty of mod opinions too
I've bent 2 seconds hands because I used the wrong press. It never occurred to me to use a totally flat press. I thank you so much for your commentary regarding this step. So many other build videos skip over this step or just gloss over it with no real information.
You're so welcome! I’m glad it helped. I’m hoping to release a video specifically for second hand installation soon. Enjoy your next build Tom
That final one was really magic - even an extra GMT hand appeared!😅
Thank you Pete. I was also surprised at how much I enjoyed the GMT - and delighted to find that the NH34 movement has enough clearance to fit beneath the crystal.
@@watchmebuildit Haha, cool!
Definitely loved the mil spec hand swap nice job as always my friend Be well and God Bless 👍
Thank you Michael. The encouragement is appreciated.
DIY Watch Club is amazing value for the money as long as you plan to use the tools again. I look forward to watching you build it!
Cheers Dad 😉. You are correct about the tools. They do offer a ‘no tools’ option on most of their kits which drops the price for repeat offenders. This new ‘standard’ kit is astonishingly well packaged and thought through.
I saw on seestern website that they have the version 4 of this watch, so what will happen to the version 3 on aliexpress? Will it be replaced any soon and will the price increase? I really wanted to get a hand on this watch, but I got a wrist size of 6 inches so the watch size concern me a little bit.
I’m not certain what the V4 upgrade will be. This one is the V3 that you see on AliExpress and I think it’s outstanding. This watch is actually People ferfect for 6 inch wrist because it’s only 38mm diameter.
@@watchmebuildit Appreciate a lot. Keep the good content 🙌🏻
Thank you 🙏🏻
Looking forward to you putting this one together. Looks very promising.
Hopefully next week. I’m also very eager to
This watch head is incredible. The crown action and bezel action is perfect. Also unlumed date wheels now make me frown
I know right! The lumed date wheel is a crazy party trick. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the watch
Hi Shaun! Great video, thanks for the content! Do you know if a 29.5mm dial will fit this case? Cheers
Hey @22oto - thanks for the compliment. Yes! The advantage of Namoki’s collection is that ALL of their cases take a 29.5 dial and NH movements. So you can mod to your heart’s delight!!
I just finished assembling my first watch build and I’m quite happy with the results. The seconds hand was a little tricky, but I got it on in under 5 minutes with no issues. It helps getting the second hand on right at eye level. The date switches right at midnight, not a minute earlier or later, which I’m ecstatic about as well.
Oh my! What an achievement! Well done. Cracking the date switchover with such accuracy is masterful. I truly am delighted
what a nice touch to the case back and crown, at the price point they really went all out.. I just ordered the V4 direct from seastern.
Excellent! Let me know how you get along
Thanks for the code my friend and I'm looking forward to your build Be well 👍
Any time! Thank you Michael
Love the concept and your efforts, impressive results! Pricey case...
It seems pricey - but the full build is super affordable (compared to other Namoki builds). But thenI remember that it’s a case, Crystal, bezel + ‘insert’, crown and caseback all together. Then it ain’t so bad
No diving at midnight with the date wheel though 😅
Yeah - sometimes you gotta wonder hey? 😂
You’re really shaking the hell outta that thing. 😂
I HAD to - it wouldn’t stop rattling 😂. I all honesty I love this video for how BAD it is! It’s one of my first and I keep it up as a reminder that Learning is a lifelong enterprise
@@watchmebuildit that’s awesome man. It is an enjoyable video to be honest. 🤣
I think you cut out too much on editing ;-)
Hey Tom. I understand. A tension Im facing is the gap between my viewers who like to ‘watch’ and those who are watching to learn. So this video isn’t designed as a tutorial (the last one where I modified the movement holder IS designed as a tutorial). This one is a ‘watch and enjoy’ kinda gig. What I’m hoping to do is create playlists with short segments on each and every activity that people can navigate through for a step-by-step experience. Thanks for your thoughts though - and your ongoing support
