Reselling isn't dying. It had an over inflated boom due to several factors, CZcamsrs/Influencers, Lockdowns, and popularity of thrifted goods. Now, it's just balancing itself out.

I've been a reseller on eBay of and on since it first began and I think they may be shooting themselves in the foot with their promoted listings greed. I tested out their variable promoted listings and was shocked that they took 31% of the sale, far more than what the range was that they indicated it would be. This combined with places like Goodwill now reselling online and hiking in-store prices, it's making it difficult to make a profit.

Everyone thinks they’ll become rich overnight resealing. It’s stressful and buyers are very demanding. It’s ok to make a few bucks here and there but to make real big money you have to have big bucks to turn the profit. It’s a business like any other business. If you start small you’ll stay small mistakes if the time. You need REAL INVESTMENT $ to go big.

  • @CORRUPTIONCZARNETWORK

30 years ago, I turned my 30's the big thing was becoming a "real estate investor", 99 percent fail, nowadays everyone wants to be a reseller, 99 percent going to fail, what I learned about life is that business opportunities are cycles everything is temporary everything goes in cycles 5 to 7 years cycles, you must hit the cycles right or just get a pices of the actions.

It's nearly impossible nowadays to resell full-time aside from the obvious competitors. Most people prioritize necessities than wants during this inflation. Moreover, marketing conglomerates like Nike and Adidas are flooding the market with their mass production sacrificing its products' exclusity.

Definitely peaks and troughs. I am seeing a lot more resellers in my local area this summer. However, the pricing and the ability to maintain lower than RRP prices is becoming quite challenging. Although bizarrely I am seeing people buy at auctions, second hand items above the RRP once the auctions fees and VAT have been included.

i think ebay is the last platform standing in this situation. you need an adaptable inventory in order to survive. stay as liquid as possible and adapt to selling merchandise that is selling at the moment, the market changes constantly. people with death piles are quitting because they are too slow at listing and have an imbalance in their business. lots of people do no market research on what to sell and don't realize how fragile the market timewise is. I'd say for your business transition all your clothes over to Ebay, buy a shed and list about 30-50 items per day.

I feel like reselling is a marathon not a race. You really have to roll with the ups and downs of sales like any business. Learn to pivot, make changes and adjust. Always take accountability and really put the work in. It requires A LOT of work but to me it’s A LOT of easy work. I come from corporate retail so the flexibility reselling has given be while being a SAHM has been priceless.

Great observation, I think your pretty accurate with the state of reselling. My journey was similar, started as a part time reseller in 2013, mostly eBay and then Discogs, but did lots of record conventions. Went full time in 2021, I was cautious and made sure I had a good stockpile of unlisted inventory and a storage setup and sorted. Also saved a good cushion in savings because I wanted to be able to pay bills for a year if something happened and also to buy the good stuff and collections when the opportunity presented itself. My thought would be that some people that started reselling during covid weren’t prepared for a downturn in sales or diversified in knowledge on what things to sell. The longer I have been a reseller the more things I learn, I sell all kinds of crazy things!

I love reselling but it does have it's ish, if you take your reselling money and put it in something else you can quit when you want. I don’t think the job taking up so much energy is unique to reselling, it’s the nature of being self employed/entrepreneur. I do agree that resellers tend to rely too much on marketplaces for sells instead of building their own brand, which is more work in the beginning but well worth it in the long run.

Im just selling clothes around my house trying to make a couple bucks and end this year with a little (ideally alot of) cash in my pockets. Due to "Bidenomics" and inflation caused by too much government spending, companies are downsizing. Consequently people don't have ANY extra cash to spend on nonessential items, which makes up the bulk of reseller inventory. This drop in sales is across all industries. Compound that with skyrocketing rents, and all other expenses, the outlook is not good for the immediate future. I would suggest voting for Trump and Republicans down ballot to hopefully avoid the race to socialism/communism. If the dark side wins in November, I would suggest selling your brick and mortar store asap!

Trump was in office in 2019. After he was announced as the election winner in 2016, the economy changed dramatically. We were still dealing with the 2008 recession during both of Obama’s first 2 terms. Right now we are in his 3rd, so we went back to that economy caused by government overspending. If you’re a reseller like me, you should vote Trump 2024!

But for 2nd one, the USPS delivery person was asking me to pay some amount as postage charges (around 21$). Whereas I have already paid whole amount (price+tax+shipping charges) OL through credit card. Hence my husband refused to accept the parcel. The amount which delivery person was asking as postage charges was handwritten on package by red marker. I'm confused. It'll be great help if u or anyone can help. PS : it was single lightweight top.

Resellers should never depend on RESALES for their income unless they drop ship (from China). It should be a cushion job, it should be a part time gig. You put a lot of time going out sourcing and then listing the items. Time is money. You would do better with a full time / part time job.

All ebay resellers are going to continue to shrink in sales and most who are doing it full time will need to look at likely joining the workforce again in the future. There is too many sellers competing these days but that is not the major problem. The problem is the chinese sellers. Like it or not australians have thrown 35 billion dollars at Temu in last 12 months. Temu has grown in the space of a year to sit a close second to Amazon and has overtaken ebay as the second largest online platform in the world. The chinese can sell a cheap copy of anything you could think of for less than a western country can make it for. On top of that they ship it anywhere in the world for free. The same parcels through australia post would cost more than $20aud or more to ship to other countries. Chinese sellers have also been opening ebay stores at a rapid rate using australian addresses but shipping direct from china misleading buyers and avoiding the extra gst and international fees that come with those transactions. Same with Temu they claim they pay taxes but it is clear they dont. This problem is occuring in most western countries and is fast becoming a huge problem in australia and even bigger problem in the united states. People can't get enough of the cheap chinese junk and every week now 100 small businesses go belly up. A small portion of slow business is due to economic circumstances but the greatest part is the rise of the chinese sellers and their too good to be true cheap goods. I have been an ebay seller for 21 years and have run a very niche business and have found lately the chinese are even copying my own products and even though their products pale in comparison in quality and half the time not even correct people are buying them anyway and who cares if they end up in the bin. They are so cheap it doesn't matter. I believe the chinese have an agenda to send as many companies broke as possible whilst flooding western economies with so many chinese goods that we eventually rely on them for everything and boom they basically own you. The only way to stop this happening is to put pressure on western governments to ban access to chinese sites like Temu, slap huge tariffs on chinese goods and make sure they are paying their dues and not misleading buyers on platforms like ebay or eventually we are all in trouble. I can't do this alone and need every western business owner small or large to get on board and pressure our governments to stop this madness and protect our economies and livelihoods from being overrun by chinese businesses. Australians need to get on board too and if it is coming from china don't buy it regardless of how cheap it is. If we don't all act the future will be bleak unless we put a stop to it. In China they don't allow any access to western sites yet our governments seem blind to the problems they are causing and do nothing to block them. Tik Tok is also similar. All these chinese platforms collect huge amounts of data on the west whicb is held by the chinese government. I could go on but you all get the gist. Remember it is gonna take a mammoth team effort to turn this around and stop the chinese juggernaut in its tracks. Your future depends on it.

There was a recession before Obama which is one of the reasons Obama got into office. How is it his fault that resellers gave a way the "secrets?" There's this thing called the internet that makes everyone want to be a reselling/tiktokng/youtubing savant. They gave away a bunch of useless information and everybody thought that they could be a reseller.
