Campinas (Part 2) - Exploring the Central Market and the City Centre!
In this second episode about Campinas, I make my way to the central market, fondly known as the "Mercadão". I absolutely love going to these places in Brazil as they are a hub of activity with tons going on. Although the main market was being refurbished at the time I was there, it was still great going around all of the stands and checking out the products on offer.
After that I make my way back to the hotel via the city centre and I take in some of the sights and sounds along the way!
It was a joy bing back in Campinas, a city that I have long enjoyed visiting. Stay tuned for more content about Brazil coming up and if you enjoyed this video please subscribe for more stuff that might be up your street!

Very good. Did you come to Campinas for a trip?
Thank you! I came to Brazil for a trip and stayed in Campinas for a couple of days.
I had an excellent secretary once that visited all these cities in NE Brazil - she's Brazilian, but describes living there as HOT, HUMID climates with an abundance of misquitos with a risk of dengue fever always present, too, so I don't mind warm climates, but someplace further South has better weather. I'd recommend visiting Cabo Frio, Sourth of Rio, Parati, Florianapolis and other places along the coast further south.
Hi Dennis thanks for this. Yes that's true there is a risk of tropical diseases but luckily I have managed to avoid all of them so far! I can confirm that it is very hot and humid however! I would love to go to Cabo Frio and Parati, I've heard that they are very good places to visit. Florianopolis I have been to and liked very much. Are you from the US?
@@williamgafrost I live in Phoenix and it's HOT here without the ocean breeze. My wife is in Sao Paulo area in Brazil visiting family, but I"m at home caring for the dogs and doing maintenance. I was there for a training camp during the Christmas period in 2012-2013 as it was one of the cities in Brazil famous for having very good Muay Thai gyms, one that was affiliated with my “home” gym in Curitiba. The owner, Felipe SIlva ended up fighting in the UFC and his brother Fabiano was Brazilian Muay Thai Champion. The people in Juiz De Fora are amazing, very caring and loving, and I found it to be extremely safe compared to Curitiba which can have sketchy areas especially at night. They also call the people from Juiz De Fora the “Carioca Pacificado”, or better translated as the peaceful person from Rio De Janeiro.
That's awesome Gandulf, BH is a cool place! I had no idea it had good gyms like that. Very interesting. Yes I agree that the people in JF are friendly and welcoming, as is much of Minas Gerais.

Thanks Sand! Yes it was great talking to so many interesting people that day! Thanks for the feedback!
No need ,Most countrys speak Inglish, so if you don't want to speak Inglish you shouldn't feel the need to have to comply with the New wold woke agender, becouse thats where, where this clip is heading.
Thanks for your comment John. I have to disagree with you here. Whilst English is a widespread language in the world today it would be an exaggeration to say that "most" countries speak it. I don't think this video has an agenda per se as it is a collection of interviews with different people giving their opinions on languages.
@williamgafrost not your your agender, my friend, just the one of multiculturalism. and that of the degradation of the borders and natinal idenaty, in short, The 1 Wold Agender. Not that that was apart of you reasoning, as you probaly don't even believe in it, evedence and all.
This is such a great video! Very interesting to hear what these people have to say. I appreciate your work! 😊
Thank you very much Nicole! I'm glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the kind feedback. I was lucky to talk to such interesting people!
One of the best ways to get into languages from scratch is by investing in a Linguaphone course. A little on the expensive side but if you're serious then this is the way to go. Back in the old days the 90s before internet and cable TV became mainstream you would buy a shortwave radio and tune into the broadcasts of foreign stations - you could also record the programmes to play back later for authentic listening practice. Then go and live in the country. However, the game has changed now with the internet and NEtflix etc . Forget all these silly apps that teach you a few phrases and words and zero sentence construction. If you're serious Linguaphone is king!
Canterburry, for example kent- village. It's turkic word. More words like dad, mom, baby came from turkic words
Very interesting stuff!! Are you studying etymology?
No, i am just interested on it.

Really nice walking tour! Hope you went into the small red building on the river island (if it was open). Amazing art space, showing young artists. Mostly art installations / media art and its free. Btw, Kleinmarkthalle does not mean small market hall, in this context it means "retail market". There is also a Grossmarkthalle in the northeast of the city, which is its counterpart and is the wholesale market. Anyway, its a great place, loved getting food there once in a while.
Hi Sebastian thanks for letting me know about the meaning of the Kleinmarkthalle, I guess I was just doing a literal translation! Is the Grossmarkthalle open to the public also? I didn't make it to the red building you mentioned but I'll research it for next time as I always enjoy going to local art galleries. It was great getting to know this fascinating city and walking around is often the best way to do it!
Cool, happy you enjoyed it! Definitely agree, just walking around and seeing what's around the next corner is often best. Great video in any case :) @@williamgafrost The Grossmarkthalle is only open to wholesale traders i think, but you can take a look at the old historic Grossmarkthalle, which is now the European Central Bank HQ (not the one with the euro-sign, they moved).
Thanks again Sebastian! Ah ok, that sounds good I wasn't aware that the ECB had moved. Another thing to see the next time I visit! @@Sebastian-pr8kz
Nice city, ruined by an endless stream of illegal immigrants. Visited in April. An immigrant was pissing on Die Alte Oper. In the public restrooms nearby there was a junkie nodding off on the toilet - also an immigrant. Another immigrant offered me and my 71-years old mother to snort something off his hand near Hauptbahnhof. Another immigrant was loudly watching porn and touching himself on the metro at 9 in the morning. Also, the prices are absolutely ridiculous. 3,40€ for one-way ticket, almost 6 if you're coming from or going to the airport. Meanwhile the immigrants travel for free and the inspectors just don't bother them. They have lost track of what makes Europe (and Germany in particular) great.
Great, thank you for this amazing video…
Thank you Eddy I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Interesting city! Great video! I just got here and it is definitely a very busy place lol
Thanks Nick I really appreciate it! Have an awesome time in BH. The energy in that city is incredible! As is the food. I'm still enjoying your channel so keep up the great work!
The cathedral is worth a visit. There's a tour that's only 1,50 Euro and they'll take you through an exhaustive History of Frankfurt in 1,5 hours during that time. EDIT: Oh wait, you did. Don't mind me.
It's pretty rare to find vlogs about germany because it's considered an ugly and boring country with even worse people. And i mean it's true but you made the best out of it

Great choice of venue and meals. Your starter is called Schneegestöber (snow flurry), which is a mixture of camembert with fresh cream cheese with a bith a bit of onion and paprika powder added. It's very local to Sachsenhausen. If you're still in the area try a Mispelchen to end your meal, it's a medlar fruit marinated in calvados, and another Sachenhäuser specialty. It's really nice.
Thanks for letting me know about the name of the starter Michael, that's good to know! I just asked the waiter to recommend a started that's what I got! I definitely got the hint of onions but I didn't know it had a base of camembert! Thanks also for the tip about the fruit in calvados, I will try that next time I go to Frankfurt. I seems like Sachsenhausen has its own cuisine and culture! Very cool!
@@williamgafrost I really liked how you intuitively picked out some very local specialties. It's not something one sees very often with travel channels to actually have someone immerse oneself into the local culture like that this openly. It's refreshing to see and I've subscribed to your channel to see where you're journey is going. Keep it up, you're doing a good thing here.
Thank you very much for subscribing Michael, I really appreciate it! I did some research before going to Frankfurt so I had some idea of the good places to go and the interesting gastronomy to try. I try to be as open as possible when video making so I am glad that you recognised that. Thanks again for your kind words. @@michaelcolin9887
Frankfurt is beautiful, I wish I'd had more chance to see it when I was there in July last year but work meant I was mostly walking around a warehouse on the outskirts. But my god the airport is confusing, it's like a city!
Yes I agree it is a beautiful place! The majority of people I met, like you, were there for work, I was one of the few people there on a city break! I agree about the airport, it is massive. I had a long stay there due to delays so I got to know it well!
There is a huge variety of Ebbelwei/Apfelwein. Some is like cider, some is like you said non-sparkling, some are with 3% vol. alcohol, some with 9% and so on. Every place/winery has their distinct make and I really love the diversity. Was there some time ago (Ebbelwei unser and Sachsenhausen) I really loved it and cool to see it again. Thanks for your video!
That is interesting about the variety in Apfelwein. I agree, I actually really like that it has some variation, as I imagine each house or company has its own fermentation method. It probably means there is a variety in flavour also! Yes Sachsenhausen is a really stylish area and has some great eateries and bars to check out. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Yes, I love the variation, just as with grape wine you can find an Apfelwein for almost every occasion. The fermentation, the type of apple, the local climate & soil, how is it stored and refined, with what is it mixed like pear, other fruits or even with lemonade, beer or coke. I always buy a small stock of different kinds if I pass trough the region :) @@williamgafrost
Very interesting, in that respect it's like a terroir; all of the different conditions that create the flavour of the drink. I didn't know people mixed it with other drinks! I'll have to give that a try next time!@@chaotbl
