    We have two Anatolian mixes (see video on my channel) that we rescued as juveniles/sub-adults (one from NC, the other from GA, where there's far too much indiscriminate breeding). They're wonderful companion dogs now, surprisingly easy to walk, well socialized and friendly ---- very important for 110 pound dogs ---- especially the female, who treats every stranger and child like a long-lost childhood friend; and they enjoy car rides. They weren't socialized around farm animals as puppies, however, and they definitely have a prey drive (squirrels and chipmunks, beware!). Great dogs, but they can be destructive chewers (thankfully past that stage now), and they're tall enough to reach any food item left out on the kitchen counter. We also have a 50 pound female Lab mix (rescued from TX) who is bonded to the female Anatolian, and they play constantly. PS, please don't name the dog, any dog, "Marley"; our Lab came to us as Marley but we chanhed it to Molly, Molly Ivins, because she's Texas-tough, with a kind heart, and punches well above her weight despite being surrounded by giants! (PS, we foster as well; currently fostering a rescued 4 month old GSD/Pyrenees mix, very smart but impulsive and stubborn; he'll be an excellent dog for the right owner, but he needs training and a job).

      Ours is very sweet and loyal as well. Unfortunately she started jumping in the shrubs that accent the front of the house and eating sparrows. She has also eaten a dove. This makes me sad as I was waiting for our lab to pass away so I could get chickens. Livestock guardians typically protect what they are exposed to regularly so I am disappointed the she now eats the sparrows that frequent our home.

      @@gis4giraffe , I once found our male Anatolian chewing on something out in the yard that looked like either the haunch of an opossum or a thigh from a big turkey, chicken or similar bird, with some wispy fur or feathers still attached, and that somehow ended up in our yard. There wasn't any other body parts, so I don't know if it was dropped by a hawk, or if Henry had already eaten the rest of it, or what the heck happened. Bear in mind that in Turkey the dogs fend for themselves, eating whatever they can catch while guarding the sheep. I swear my female Anatolian can spot a squirrel at 300 yds! If I'm walking them on the trails and they focus on something off in the woods that they hear or smell, I pay attention. Often it's just somebody else walking a dog, or perhaps some deer, but there were several occasions where the big male ( that's him in my thumbnail photo) growled low and deep like a lion, and the fur stood up on the back of his neck. This is a dog who is completely unflappable and is never rattled by anything, so when he acts like there's something dangerous in the woods it's time for us to turn around and walk back to the car. Could be coyotes (eastern coyotes are BIG), or a bobcat (both are common around here), or even a black bear, which I haven't yet seen, but they have been spotted within a few miles of my house. Anyway, if he indicates danger, I trust his judgment! PS, I have a video of our three dogs at dinnertime on my channel.

    I'm surprised your puppy isn't getting motion sickness in car rides. I have tried to take my anatolian on short trips about 5-10 minutes but he just starts yawning then drooling profusely. I've been told that they don't get their internal balance until about a year, something having to do with their ears.

    • @gis4giraffe
      @gis4giraffe Před rokem

      Oh interesting. One of my Yorkshire Terriers had that but like you’re doing we would just do very short rides around the block or less and it took about a year but she’s 11 now and loves to go as often as possible. My anatolian is 2 and is mostly a homestead dog as the breed prefers but I do load her up once a week and take her to town for desensitized. Mostly things like car wash or waiting in a coffee line. Enjoy your dog they are amazing.

      They are a lot of work with how much guarding instinct they have but she’s become more manageable at 2. I’m sure spaying her will help some. She’s my favorite breed now but it’s pretty intense and it’s not a breed you take off site to hike with or walk in town with. Glad you enjoyed the video.

      @@gis4giraffe, my Anatolian crosses, both rescues, frequently accompany me on trail walks and shopping trips to town; they're surprisingly easy to walk, and are unusually friendly with strangers, but I keep them on leash, because if they get loose, a voice-recall command is pretty much useless. Not to mention that the male (probably part Pyrenees, we think) will shamelessly steal anyone's lunch. The female is unusually long-limbed and tall; I don't know what she's crossed with but she reminds me of an antelope, with similar jumping ability; and she treats every stranger and child like a long-lost relative. There's a video of them, and our rescued Lab mix, on my channel. In past years we've had St Bernards, and a giant German shepherd/Dobie/Rottie mix (smartest dog I've ever known), and so were used to large dogs, but sadly, advancing age and arthritis will prevent us from adopting such giant dogs in the near future....we'll have to "downsize" someday when these guys are no longer with us. Our male is almost 11 but doing pretty good for his age; the female is 3, very athletic, and presumably has some good years left......

      It simply squirts the water. I bought a stack of the microfiber pads and can change them as often as I want during a cleaning session. You can buy the name brand cleaning solution which you mix with water or just use plain water. I typically do not buy the name brand cleaners but I absolutely love this one and since you dilute it with water it lasts a longer time.
