You're what they call "A Dirty Scaumbag Mechanic". Why didn't you inform the previous owners to check and see if they can get a new engine. Instead you cheated them, and now trying to reap the rewards.

These cars are junk!

Make sure you have all the oil change records on the vehicle or they won't honor the campaign. I am going through the same issue and the dealership told me today that as long as i have all the oil change records for the vehicle that Hyundai most likely will approve my engine replacement. The dealership told me it's not a recall, it's a campaign, and there are some differences so be aware. He said the only 2 parts that are covered by the campaign by Hyundai is Rod bearings and something with combustion. He said if my engine has anything else wrong with the engine i am NOT covered by the campaign or warranty, and that i will have to pay out of pocket. He said 2013-2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport and a few other models have a lifetime warranty only on Rod bearings and combustion parts, nothing else on the engine. He told me the engine warranty or campaign only covers engines that were affected by Rod bearing clearance and / or combustion issues, nothing else. So, if those two parts i mentioned are not the problem, you won't be covered, as i was told by dealership. Good luck to you, hope everything works out.
