Wow...This is a FAR CRY from 1994....I love it! We had DRILL and HORNS....And a bad az DRUMLINE... But the NEW Lafayette is the Total Package. 🤷‍♀ A McGavoc SOUND with a Lafayette DRILL, Flags on point, No stopping ... Will win EVERY. TIME. STILL the baddest Horn section of the Century! I LOVE my school for LIFE! Good job, kids...And Good Job, Staff!!! Let's go Generals! LET'S GO!!! 🥰 FITS Lyfe.
Wow...I must be a consummate "bandie"...This STILL hits today! I went on from here to acquire a music scholarship at Central State University. In Wilberforce, OH. Truly the best years of my life. Thank you, Mr. Moore. Go GENERALS!!! 🥰
I worked with the band the previous year and the two years following. The band hated Raxsdale from the moment he got there. He kept telling everyone how qualified he was to be there and it came across as arrogance. The longer he was there the worst it got. Before he left the band parents were against him as well. One incident that happened was the kids/band association bought him a wall clock for Christmas. The band had a yard sale to raise money. He brought the clock threw it on a pile of stuff to be sold. He was unwilling to break down the drill, as many director are, into smaller segments to clean it up. The band lost their crispness in their fundamentals and the drill was dirty between the sets, and the sets were not much better.
That show was a complete mess. Horrible staging, boring music (exceeded only by the simplistic arrangements) , and crap fundamentals. Worst year I ever spent in a band uniform.
Wow, I'd love to see that with modern day higher video and audio resolution. That is a very nice show, on par with some of the better shows you see today.

Wow, I was in the percussion section for the Lafayette High School Band graduating in 1985. This is the first time I've seen this video! Wow this brings back memories! Any chance anyone has video or audio from the 1983 1984 season?
What was the musical selections
Chant and jubilo. Send in the clowns. Drum solo "the clock" (I believe...was a Santa Clara vanguard drum solo in 74 or 75), if I were a rich man. Danny boy. I think that's everything. Great show. First I've ever watched it. Though I think their 1979 show has never been beat.

I was on the field that night... so here is what I remember. Somewhere in my stash of crap from HS I have the program.... 1) don't remember the name 2) it was a melody of Take the A Train, Raposidy in Blue. and? 3) Drum break 4) I write the songs (Barry Manilow?)

thank you! wow... memories... Somewhere my stash I have a record (as in LP) of this years performance. I also have a tape of the 1983 performance from MBA in Bristol TN? (think that's correct, might have my years confused). Only one I'm missing was my final year in marching band in 1984.
oh wow! rhapsody in blue was my favorite! that was a tough program for us. soooo long ago.

@@jacquesdegeorges7297 - And he was an abject disaster. Petty, narcistic, and a raging alcoholic. He belittled everything that came before him at LHS, alienated the band parents, wrecked the morale of the majority of the band members, and left in a huff. I believe his parting words were something to the effect of, "I'm going somewhere else, I'm going to build a top level band program, and I'm going to come back and beat your asses to a pulp." None of which ever happened. What a complete dumpster fire...
