I normally enjoy your videos but this one was truly awful. I am no British Empire apologist by any means but this video was outrageously biased and clearly meant as confirmation of the evil deeds carried out British Empire for woke and leftie empire haters few of whom have any understanding of history, British or otherwise. You should know that the British DID NOT start the slave trade. Slavery in all of its horrible forms has been endemic throughout human history. The transatlantic slave trade was started by the Portuguese and continued by the Spanish, French and yes, the British. But Britain did not end the slave trade because it was UNECONOMICAL - it abolished it because the British people found it abhorent and, having abolished it, Britain policed the Atlantic ocean and stopped any ship from any country taking slaves to the Americas. These poor people were liberated and saved from a life of utter misery by the British navy. Also you made no mention of the many of the good things the British did in India, for example abolishing the practise of sutee in India (whereby a widow burned herself to death or was burned to death on the funeral pyre of her husband) and the abolition of the practice of thuggee. These and many other awful practises were outlawed by the British. We should also remember that Indians did not fair well under the rule Maharajas who were more than happy to collaborate with the Portuguese and the later the British and frankly, couldn't give a shit about their own people. I saw this video via a different 'reaction' video uploaded by some Americans. I added the comments above to their video to help them realise that the British Empire was NOT the evil empire as promoted by your video. You only have to look at,what was, Rhodesia which was not granted independence unless it guaranteed one man rule much to the chagrin of prime minister Ian Smith. Simon, very good video you’ve done here. Rare to find a video that doesn’t vilify my great great grandfather. To clear a few things up, the trusts aren’t actually as limited as some people think, more so it’s encouraged from a young age to become financially literate and to ensure that you don’t squander your money, rather that you invest it and grow it and never consume all of the interest and certainly never dip in to the principle. We have a series of trusts which are heavily monitored by people at companies like Rockefeller capital management, and some that are personal trusts that members have left to their children and grand children. The level of personal control or input varies between them. I’d be happy to explain more if you intend on following up this video or are simply curious about it. I am quite a fan of your work and make a habit of listening to them while I work or even just while relaxing at home. I recently watched your video on the boys on the track and greatly enjoyed it.
