Hi, My RCA Blue Ray DVD player was shutting off randomly. I would have to turn it back on to get it to play again. I unpluged the Audio board and it is working fine. *It still has audio, just not the powered speakers audio, which I don't need.* I also put the Audio fan on the Video heat sink. It fits snugly :O)

My chime function degraded from a clear chime sound to a weak "thud" over the course of a few years. I fixed mine by: 1.) unplug power supply 2.) remove the four small black screws from the black plastic base under the silver chime bar. Small phillips screws driver as found in eye glasses repair kit will work. 3.) gently pull up on the lid (has digital display) until lid and chime/base/electronics assembly pulls out of bamboo clock casing. It is all one unit. MPORTANT: The chime striker mechanism is a silver cylinder with a small black rubber nipple that freely sits on top of a round, thin black foam pad and sits inside of a vertical sleeve in the base/electronics assembly. The rubber nipple faces up. The striker cylinder will naturally fall out of the base assembly sleeve when it is removed. (When the chime striker is engaged, an electrical current in the base assembly causes the chime striker cylinder to "shoot" up through the sleeve thus striking the chime bar. Over time the foam pad compresses which affects the chime cylinder's ability to strongly strike the chime) 4.) Remove the foam pad with a razor blade or knife. Scrape off any glue residue from the surface under the foam pad. 5.) Purchase a pack of those felt cabinet door bumpers that are green or brown in color. They are 1/16" thick and 3/8" diameter. They have self adhesive backing. I stacked 2 of them in place of the factory foam pad. This left the striker cylinder sitting slightly above the wood surface and my clock works perfectly again!! 6.) To reassemble, place striker cylinder on new felt pad then line up the display/lid hinges and push assembly/base/electrical unit down until flush with the wood surface. As long as you don't knock over the striker cylinder, it will slide back into the sleeve when you push the assembly/base/electrical unit down. 7.)4 small screws back in. Plug clock back in and set the timer function to 10seconds with the repeat mode on. This way the chime will strike ever 10 seconds and will allow you check the chime function. GOOD LUCK! I HOPE THIS HELPS.

Thanks for the video. A couple of observations. I would start out by finding a piece of tempered glass and build the box to fit the glass. I might use rear view mirror glue to make a double pane glass cover. Glue in a 1/4" spacer of plexiglass strips around the edges. Build the box so the glass fits down inside the box a little to protect the glass. I like the cast iron pot. I would leave it in the oven all the time so it would be pre-heated before I put the food in the pot. I see that the four sides fit the box and the triangles fill the spaces. I might tape the four sides at the botton to the box, then drill holes in the top corners of the four sides and tie string though the holes and lower the four sides to the angle I liked. Probably my latitude angle. Then measure the distance across the open space at the top to get my triangles width at the top end. Instead of a swinging pot I think I would use a piece of wire shelving with an angle on it to set the pot on if I needed to angle the box a little. I am working on a design and I have to say that I like yours for the durability of it. Thanks again for the video.

Good job. There seems to be a design flaw with the wires that thread through the hinges.... I fixed that by replacing the wires with new silicone 24AWG wire. Also there seem to be a lot which cannot chime anymore or chime pathetically... I replaced the miniature 1000uF 25V electrolytic on the boost board and it got it's oompf back. These clocks are pretty cheesy but I love mine!

Did anyone ever contact you to discuss if the idea was worth prototyping? Or does the physics not stack up?

  • @alteredperceptions8841

So your instructions for fixing this broken chime is "take it apart". Extend "the" wires. There is a small motor inside (Somewhere?) that drives a striker. Never mentions what to remove, which screws need to come out. What parts look like. And of course, there is NEVER a view of the clock interior. So why are you babbeling on trying out different voltages of power supplies? If you want to use the word REPAIR in your title. Show repair then babble less.

No, don't paint the inside black. You need the reflector to concentrate the light. If you paint it, the sides will absorb all the light and the cookpot will get LESS!!
