I met my wife when we were 18/19 and got engaged at 23/24. I'm 27 now and know how lucky I was to have found a woman I felt a connection to and committed my life to. I love my wife but if I hadn't met her when I did I can see a world where our connection doesn't happen. The culture right now around adults dating is absolutely miserable and I have no idea how it can be repaired. I also have to say I feel if I didnt have someone I love I felt respobsibe to pull my weight for (earning/housework) I have no idea if I'd have the motivation to carry on in a respectable way. If the relationship front for young folks is as bleak as it seems I think it will have massive rippling effects on our society. Idk though, I've never used a dating app.

No wonder gay men have the lowest divorce/break up rate compared to the two other variations. Also they are the most successfull.

I think its egocentrism and a lack of trust. Most people are only interested in their own happiness and maximizing what they can get out of a partner. If you don't fit 100% of what is expected there is an entire population of singles on your phone ready to go. No pressure to lower standards or try to work it out. Trust is the next issue. Many people date with a foot already outside the door. You are with a person but you already have person b through z lined up in case things don't work out. Everyone is afraid of getting hurt so they have already created back up plans. I think this is more common among women who have guys throwing themselves at them all day every day. Its almost a meme at this point. Nobody wants to put in the hard work to maintain a relationship. Its easier to break up and find someone else when things get rough.

Last I had sex was the December before COVID. Mainly cos I don't want to go anywhere near someone who took the poison. It's passed though sex. Young men are less ready than young women to report commitment. Look also at "no sex in last year" in the GSS survey. After a high of 25% for young men it came back down to 15% after Covid. So while they are identifying as "single" many are still having sex.
