Molly the Duck Toller TOLLS DUCKS
For the first time ever, both Molly's and the ducks' instincts kicked in. Molly the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever tolled some ducks in the freezing cold, mucky, muddy shallows. She was like candy to the ducks. As you'll hear in the ridiculous commentary, her people were amazed.

If other Tollers are half as fu as my friend Billy, then they are an amazing breed. He is so much fun!
I sure hope in the last 6 years the owner has learned a thing or two. Bad judgment.

@@lobosalt6868 no, they don't. They don't send the dog out to the ducks swimming around. If tolling.....the dog and handler ignore the ducks and play fetch on the shoreline. Otherwise, sit quietly and shoot one and then send the dog to retrieve the fallen one.
@@suran396 No the hunter sits in the blind to stay hidden from the ducks. The hunter might throw a ball/toy for the dog to play with. The dog plays with a toy which the ducks come over and investigate. Dog gets called back by the hunter in order to shoot the ducks.
@@lobosalt6868 exactly and in this video the owner is sending the dog out TO live ducks. While the owners are NOT in a blind. Completely wrong and potentially harmful to the dog.

I know they are a separate breed, and a retriever, but oh my, they are so much like the working stock border collies we've had. Lovely.

When I got my toller 6 years ago there wasn’t much for toller videos. Thanks for sharing. My pup, Caswell, and I have convinced many a duck to accept our dinner invite.
Would like to know more details! Are you only using Tolling to get ducks or are you doing a combination of "modern" duck hunting with decoys along with Tolling?
@@steezli it depends. I sometimes do set decoys out and sit a “blind”, but where I live, small, remote bodies of water are extraordinarily common. Oftentimes it will just be me, the dog, and a shotgun. We can travel light and hit many spots throughout the day.

@@steezli well, just like any duck hunt- some are epic some are duds. I live in the far northeast so any kind of limit can be difficult- we just don’t have the variety of species. Good luck tolling! It’s a ton of fun once you and the dog find a good routine that works for you. My boy, Caswell, has been doing it long enough that he knows what’s about to go down. He get to the edge and start looking for the birds that want to play. It’s cool to see how different species react too. Some, like mallards, will come in on a string. Others, like geese and ring neck, take a lot of patience to toll. Have fun!
Awwwww duck tollers are cute and ducks are cute too. Duck tollers are adorable and can give you another adorable pet duckling.

Our Toller is naturally great at tolling along the shore when no ducks are around. However, if he sees a duck (or loon), he will swim across the entire lake to try to catch it!

Why are the ducks attracted to a potentially dangerous predator?!
They see that the dog is more interested in sticks than them. Maybe they think the dog is an herbivore.

When tolling, you do not send the dog to get the ducks: the dog does not even look into their direction...
What does tolling mean?
Tolling is a Middle English word meaning to lure/decoy waterfowl into gun range or into the net at the end of the channel.
