    Thank you very much for your important work! I nearly phoned you during my second pregnancy, as you shared your number online. But unfortunately lost it. I studied medicine and before that I wanted to become a midwife. But after practical experiences in the hospital I decided otherwise. What a difficult time for humanKIND and mothers, men, babies and midwifes. Both my children were born at home. The first birth lasted three days and was very exhausting. My second birth in a birthing-tub was really fast. My midwife didn't make it intime then :-) Both births were intense, insanely painful, but empowering, funny and lovely. The pain was the worst that I ever experienced. And I have a medical history of cancer, auto-immune disease, gallbladder stones, kidney stones, severe toothe-infections...but even though it was very painfull, it was ok and made us as a family stronger. Your explanation of thinking "up up up" during start of labour helped me alot :-) I was born with an emergency c-section. My heartbeat dropped under 30/min. Afterwards my mother was diagnosed with a long spine and hip deformity. I would not have been able to come out. lots of love...

    Everything we do in KG Hypnobirthing keeps the tools we give you as simple as possible. This is important, so they can become second nature. The last thig we want is that you are 'trying' to remember things when you give birth.

      I'm delighted. It is always my aim to keep what we teach as simple as possible. You can't be doing with complicated things when you're giving birth. Also I'm convinced that counting is unhelpful as we are all different and it simply causes stress. It's much better that the mind can focus on the positive visualisations we give which actually enhance the benefits of the breathing. Thank you so much for your kind comments.

    I was a Katharine Graves hypnobirthing midwife for many years. I retired just before my 70th birthday with a lot of wonderful memories and stories of beautiful births. I really miss the privilege and honour of attending these mother's and fathers at a most rewarding and exciting time. Which was during the birth of their baby. Seeing the joy and pride on their faces of what had been gently achieved was truly amazing. The delight of the mother holding baby in a calm and peaceful place was such a fulfilling reward. Not only for the parents but myself too. How I miss those halcyon days but the long shifts and old bones did not bode well. May you long continue to guide and support those who attend your classes. Much the same as you did when I attended your class in Manchester. Much love, peace, calm and happy hypnobirthing to all. With heartfelt thanks. Anne xx

    Thank you for your videos and sharing of your knowledge. I have a low risk pregnancy and I'm due in 2 days. In the hospital they seem to want to induce my labour because i had covid 3 months ago and no real issues came from it. I have been saying no to them and last week doctor said she wouldn't let it go past 41 weeks. I really don't want to be induced unless medically necessary, is there any advice you could give as to how to fight of induction? Best wishes, Karla

    • @katharine.graveskghypnobir8599
      @katharine.graveskghypnobir8599 Před 2 lety

      What evidence can they give that covid 3 months ago justifies an induction? I bet - none. They are using it as an excuse to put hospital policy into practice, and that policy is probably not evidence based. Always ask for the evidence. It is not up to the doctor whether or not to 'let you' go beyond 41 weeks. That is an illegal statement. The choice is yours, not the doctor's. The doctors roll is to give you good, balance information and to respect and support you in your choice. That is the law and the basis of medical ethics. The average length of pregnancy is about 41.5 weeks. At 41 weeks you will not even have reached the average length of pregnancy. Everyone trusts that your body and your baby know what to do up to now. That continues, unless there is a sound clinical reason to the contrary. Have you done the KGHypnobirthing course? If not, get the online course now at kghb.org/kgh-online. It's very affordable, and you will be so glad you did. Also download the free resource sheet on Induction of Labour from kghb.org/resourcesheet . It will point you in the direction of good, factual, evidence based information that you are plainly not getting from your hospital at the moment. It's not a matter of saying that you don't want to be induced. Clearly and politely say, "No."

  • @katharine.graveskghypnobir8599

    The reason there is no counting for the up breathing is that everyone is different and, as you have found, you can be different at different times. If you are taught a count, even if the person says there is no need to stick to it, subconsciously you will try to reach it an then you tense up. When you tense up you produce adrenaline which inhibits the production of oxytocin and oxytocin is needed for the progress of labour. The images that go with the breathing making it more effective, work with your body, and help labour to progress better. KGHypnobirthing is logical and works well!

    I started counting something like 4 in 6 out. Later that became 2 in, 3 out. Later, 1 in 2 out. Eventually it was just rhythmic panting, and finally it ended up as rhythmic vocalisation. It was really the counting and rhythm that helped me rather than any particular number!

    Had my first child at 47 and had non of these issues. No stretch marks. Loved pregnancy. I was pregnant 3 times before and lost them never making it passed 9 weeks, so I didn't really experience morning sickness either except with my first child's full term but again it was mild. My 2nd child at 49 the only difference was more morning sickness in my first trimester. It more intense but after that by 2nd Tri I felt normal. I take 1 nap a day as usual and play with my toddler. Overall no high blood pressure, no fluid retention, no bloating, no joint pains, and no Gest. diabetes. I'm not sure these issues are age related as my doctor said (to my surprise) that many 20 year olds have high blood pressure or complications and that every pregnancy for woman having multiple children will feel different at any age. Now that we are considering a 3rd child at 51 I'm inclined to just follow the labs and data and forget the age idea as I'm no showcasing any of these "traditional" worries. I will say I was vegetarian for 12 years before my first child. Not sure if that also has anything to do with it? But I certainly don't feel my age. I feel 33. I had a C section b/c upon induction I never dilated but I was making breakfast and recovered within2 weeks after delivery. I kept pushing myself to walk and push through the discomfort so now I'm currently looking forward to my next delivery. Hope this helps other women. Age may not be related as much as good health.
