Simpson Countians of Mississippi are celebrating their 200th Birthday and Bicentennial in 2024! Located in the heart of southern Mississippi, Simpson County is home to a tapestry of rich history, historic landmarks, locations, and buildings, with communities hosting the best hospitality in the South.
Simpson County was founded in 1824, and named after Josiah Simpson, a traveling Founder, from Pennsylvania. Simpson County has scheduled events beginning in January, leading to the opening of the Sesquicentennial Time Capsule from 1974, on July 4, 2024. A new Time Capsule will be placed, to be opened on the 250th Birthday year for the County.
