The reason why this carousel moved from Cedar Point's Frontierland to Dorney Park was because their PTC #38 carousel burned down in 1983 (like what happened to Seabreeze Park's PTC #36 in Rochester, NY in 1994).

The Pike Carousel was built by Spillman Engineering, there are 30 jumpers and 2 chariots. There is no band organ. It first operated at a carnival until it moved to an amusement park in New Hampshire, where it ran until 1984. Then, from 1990 to 1996, it moved to Independence Center Mall in Independence, MO(until it was replaced with a double decker). In 1998, this Spillman carousel moved to Santa Barbara for a year. Then it was put on storage in Mt. Hood, OR. Finally, it made it's final move in 2005 to the Pike where it operates today.

Actually Billy Joel did write the song. After rhe carousel closed in 1995 at the time when it use to be located on Sunrise Highway in Baldwin, he wrote it as a tribute in memory of the old location. Years later when it reopened, the Wurlitzer organ company made a transcription of Billy's tune. I have a CD of the piece that explains it in the credits. My grandparentuse to take me there as a child and i'd score 300 playing ski ball!

We had a 1921 Denzel carousel in our town Haslett Michigan and it was there for 30 years as it's it's true home and it was haunted cedar point bought it in 1971 they took the haunted military horse off from the carousel which was a very stupid thing to do and then in 1991 they sold it to dorney Park Allentown Pennsylvania .... I really wish we could bring that carousel back to its original home along with the haunted horse and all the spirits will be happy

I have to admit, that out of all the Charles ID Looff permanent park carousels I've seen and rode (1911 SCBB, 1905 SF PLAYLAND, and the SPOKANE WA carousel) this Looff carousel at Crescent Park in Riverside has the most beautifully painted horses!!! 👍🎠
