I feel like the Leagues and the streak thing doesn’t help me. Cos for someone who is very competitive, all I wanna do is be on top of the leaderboard. And sometimes that makes me lose sight of why I’m using the app. 😔😔

Great video with great advice! Interestingly, i started doing something similar to your technique of transcribing and with one of the channels you listed (BBC News Mundo). I pick a 5-minute (or less) video, copy the transcript to a Word document and print it out, watch the video while following along with the transcript, and then read the transcript only a few more times aloud. I'll try transcribing next time and see how it goes. Brilliant stuff. Thanks man

Excelente video, yo debí (o debería?) hacer uno de Lima con Madrid. Pero estoy de acuerdo con todos los puntos que mencionas. Madrid o España en general tiene un estilo más tranquilo y pausado. Por eso resalto mucho que aquí se aprecia y se vive el presente. Sin embargo, considero que esto está afectando su economía por el estilo de vida relajado que se está asentando últimamente. Coincido con lo mencionado con su arquitectura, es como viajar en el tiempo estando en el presente. Bello y admirable ver cómo la mantienen limpia y ordenada. Tampoco me termina de agradar la apertura de las tiendas muy tarde. Recuerdo que en Lima desde temprano casi todo empieza a estar disponible para el consumo o comercio. Por otro lado, me alegra que se hayan sentido seguros en su viaje y no hayan tenido malas experiencias con los pickpockets. Un abrazo Leo!

Thanks for this video. It’s good to hear somebody who actually speaks well of Duolingo. I get a bit sick of people who say it’s terrible when it really is a case of you get out of it, what you put into it. I really like your idea of speaking the words in every one of the exercises and also trying to translate rather than just use the word bank. I always try and translate all the spoken exercises as practice, but your ideas will help me build on that. Thanks so much! Cheers

I've been using duolingo for Spanish for about 4 months now and even though it really helped me get a good start, I feel like it slows me down now if I only use duolingo. so I started using flashcards, taking notes, getting more Spanish input etc. but wasn't sure if I should keep using duolingo too. I think what you talk about in this video is more useful than most videos on yt with thousands of views. also I had been doing that thing with translating the sentence without looking at the words recently and it really does make duolingo work better. anyways I'm thankful this was on my recommendations.

If you really made it through all the lessons in Duolingo, you definitely will get more as a refresher activity from listening to podcasts, CZcams broadcasts, Netflix movies. The in context content is more motivating and meaningful. Dreaming Spanish is also really great as a resource.

Yeah man. We are always studying, whether deliberate, or not. As long as we are exposing ourselves to material. Your brain is going to continue developing its knowledge, just by hearing the language. Studying deliberately is not necessary.

Beyond 2-3 months duolingo becomes repetitive and useless. It doesn't teach you how to speak, I made huge gains in Spanish by practicing with the natives on Tandem app.

I actually did the rosetta stone method without knowing that there is a word for. I bought after 3 weeks an selfimprovement book, made for native speaker and actually it was readable, for sure with research of words. this method is very fun
