The thing that gets me really is Stigler passed away March 2008 and Brown on November the same year. They really were friends for life. In war time they were just doing their job.

My german side is proud of the sybol that this german pilot made. My American side is proud of the americans that did not forget this gesture and made this meeting possible. ❤ one team for eternity ❤

I first heard of this story through metal band Sabaton's song No bullets fly. It has fascinated me ever since, they had to get together otherwise the story would not have been complete. Coincidentally, Franz's grandson is a fan of Sabaton and when he heard the song he told his mother who sent Sabaton a video thanking them and then they all met up at one of Sabaton's concerts in the US. That makes it even more remarkable.
