your critique is so so insightful. I'm not a storyboard artist, but i'm learning so much about storytelling in general from this video. it's funny hearing you be so critical of your early work. of course it is a reflection of your growth, but even your earliest work is outstanding. thank you for this video!
#5 is what i am currently trynna yeet out of me
Art helps us find who we are and what we injoy. Well l am still trying to finding
I didn't think the original illustration was bad at all, but after seeing your updated version it's easy to see how much you've improved! The composition with the depth and perspective you added made the biggest difference! It was super cool to see how you block in the lighting, and I'm actually a big fan of the "cuter" style for the orc, I think the style hangs together and makes the whole thing feel cohesive, even if it isn't as intimidating.
Wow this helps so much! As an artist trying to get better at making animatics the video is very insightful.
Love your vid btw!!! Also question, what program do you recommend to use when creating an animatic?
Found your channel recently and i really adore your content keep it up
YAY love this video and love the struggle drawing the mouth
@DanielMtal I want to explore more of your 2016 art portfolio although not so sure where it can be found ?
This was so useful! Thank you sm🌷
just stumbled across your page, you are so underrated, i learned a lot!!
love this. would be nice to see color sometime
I really love this video, pls more
Another instant classic!

why
I don't know if this will be helpful but if your character is on it's own layer... I'd turn off all the other layers except that one. Then on a new layer, I would fill in all the gaps in the outer linework(silhouette) with gray. Then while referencing all layers, magic wand the outside and then invert the selection (maybe decrease selection by 1 pixel if you're concerned about aliasing) and then just bucket fill it in.
fantastic video daniel! i enjoyed watching you redraw your old piece. man you've always been great
Love the narration along with the drawing, especially agree with the comment about noise being crunchy
Awesome 😎
You should do a video where you can't redraw anything. Drawing honour mode
It was really cool how you drew everything once and not twice or more
The artist struggle montage is so real 😂😂
Woah ur so underrated
I’m taking life drawing in the fall and I’m trying to get better- this video has been refreshing in the sea of anatomy tips and tricks I’ve been seeing! + Your storyboarding skills are amazing :D
Amazing video! Learnt a lot *subscribes*, look forward to your next video:) take care
videos like these help me a lot, tk 4 doing these types of things <3
you just cant make mikey run
I think there are hidden (or some not so hidden when looking at old drawings, lol) stages to progression. It takes a lot of time to understand proportions. Some people start life drawing before they even have solid hand/eye coordination with the paper and drawing method. Anatomy is something else you mention. All of those elements get REALLY confusing for a new artist. I think a great art teacher of life drawing would ensure that each student is focusing on the element of the student that could use the most improvement or which piece of the foundation needs to be laid first. Complete beginners generally have little business focusing acutely on anatomy in any way more than the most basic shapes, since they can’t even get the gesture of the pose, after all. It takes time for everyone new to life drawing to get comfortable enough to recognize (if not instructed) what they should focus on in a particular session, and with that, they can simplify because they aren’t trying to do 50 different novel things for themselves.
Great breakdown and look back! Thanks for the opportunity to see how you built your success for the good of everyone
So helpful
Those were some wonderful tips! I especially loved the one about the horizon line, that's something I don't usually think about
Dreamworks sucks.
What brush do you use for your boards?
Your critique on your previous work is pretty helpful! There's still so much that I can learn from others, and seeing your journey has been really insightful
Awesome video, I think it's incredible you take the time to review and even redraw some frames. Personally, I'm just starting with drawing. I hope by the time I'll be more experienced and have my story portfolio, I will find someone as willing to help others as you are.
Awesome!
The fact that you PERSONALLY redrew this person's board and upgraded their website? Is a generous effort I cannot find anywhere else. Thank you for doing this for them. You're indeed skilled, and incredible at what you do.
דניאלינקה אני מאוד נהנת לראות ולשמוע אותך.
Great video!
Love this video and your roasting one! The more I learn about storyboarding the more it seems we only really "get good" on the job. You can go to animation school or do all of your own stuff but the professional animatics only come through a lot of learning and more importantly feedback that will bring improvements with fresh eyes. I wouldn't even be able to tell the person who did the first storyboard also did the last, that's how much you improved!
I noticed that when the mouse saw the lightswitch then bit the cat, he was thrown in the opposite direction of his target, then seems to magically appear on the table. Maybe have the cat drop the mouse a bit short of the table, then he scrambles up the leg of it?
Yeah I noticed that as well after! I had a bit about the mouse biting the cat letting go or uses the cat to jump off of, but kept it out of the final cut because i didnt notice the mouse looked at the light switch before, and used that as the reasoning, but realized i was wrong and just didnt catch it.
great content! Thanks!
Great video! I would love to hear you talk about things a professional TV storyboard artist can do if they want to make the transition to film. What are the biggest differences? how can they craft a portfolio to help show they can do more than just TV?
It was very helpful, thank you😊
That was adorable, the action scene was really fun too. Great video!
WOO!
the one with armpit folds better tho
Holllyy, this opens my mind. I’ve only seen the first animation in the video so far, and although it’s your first it’s really helping me. Seeing how you can make the animation simplified and choppy but still maintain the idea of movement is what I needed to see. Im currently tried my luck with animation for the first time and im animating a Kirby falling down. It’s simple. But I’ll definitely try to incorporate what I see in this. A fellow third yeat college student
Love your videos, would love any kind of topics as long as you keep uploading new things <3
