Why I Travel This Way - by The Bookshop Band, ft. Pete Townshend
We are on a huge UK tour at the moment, kids in tow (need more zzzZZZZ), to promote our new album, so we thought it might be a nice moment to release this music video, of a song called Why I Travel This Way, inspired by The High Mountains Of Portugal, by Canadian author Yann Martel, who also features on the track, playing glockenspiel.
Filmed and edited by Ben Please, with help from all the fire crew at the glorious Eden Festival.

To celebrate the launch of our new album and tour, here's a little live session from the top of the field above The Park stage, at Glastonbury Festival 2024. It's a song about creating a story, writing a book, binding it. Feels appropriate. It's inspired by Jackie Morris' book, The Unwinding. The album comes out on Friday 28th June, while we're here. You can stream it here: bookshopband.lnk.to/...

We Are The Foxes (inspired by Ned Beauman's book GLOW), filmed LIVE in Beckham's Bookstore, in New Orleans. Just before the pandemic we went to New Orleans to be part of the Folk Alliance conference, showcasing artists to promoters. It was meant to set us up for a big second tour to North America, but that didn't happen for obvious reasons. One nice thing we got out of it was visiting a very co...

Fantastic, Beth has such a beautiful voice xxx
Gorgeous
This is beeeautiful 🎃 listened to it over breakfast
Beautiful. A collaboration that appears to be a tree bearing much fruit.
I can't get this song out of my head now. I'll never look at foxes the same.
Very beautiful song and clever video. I read that book about 4 months ago, what a story. But the dead plants did bring back some memories of when I returned from a trip to Scotland in May and saw what had happened to some of my native plants that had just been in the ground 2 months. We had had a severe drought when we where away from home. Rewilding project going on here at home, and now 143 bird species seen on the property. Greetings from Florida. Love the music
I do believe I hear the gopher tortoise and his friends the blue jays, northern cardinal family singing along in my yard. I just noticed you do a song called Birnam Wood. I actually read that book about 4 months ago. I'll check the song out next. I loved Catton's book Luminaries, too. My husband and I were in Scotland about a month ago. First time there. Loved seeing all those puffins on the Isle of May and all the amazing places in Scotland. We spotted 78 bird species in Scotland on the trip. Love those robins you have over in the UK. Greetings from Florida. I discovered your group on an email from the Norfolk Wildlife Trust.
Beautiful song! Loved seeing you at Rheged!
I was there watching them up at the Glastonbury sign
❤️❤️❤️
really good, lovely harmony and tones, thoughtful interesting music is alive and well...
This is amazing man. I love this!
Thankyou
<3 Love it so muchhhhhhh and the kids, so cuttieeee!
Thank you so much!!
Oh wow, that was a lovely song. Mesmerizing by the bass intrument. 🙌🏽👍🏼
That’ll be Beth’s carbon fibre cello ;)
❤
lovely song, kids are so precious with the Botticelli hair!
A lovely song thank you, even though your audience ran away.
I know, classic
Great tune.
Pete Townsend always did have good taste
So so neat __thank you every time I listen to them I feel better about people in general
Even with Pete's dodgy ears ,he still knows a great sound when he hears it .....Best of luck with the album, i also love what i've heard from it . ❤
So I came here searching for you after reading the story about Pete Townsend listening to your CD and liking it that much he helped record, produce and play on the latest album. Not sure how accurate the story is (it coming from the Metro and it's got things badly wrong before) and not here because I am a massive Who or Pete Townsend fan either (I don't dislike either of them, just not especially into them also) but your music is right up my street. I have only heard this track so far but I really enjoyed it, thought it was very well done and look forward to hearing more from you. I hope you continue to go from strength to strength and wish you both well in the future - I have a feeling you are going to be very successful. Kudos.
Yes!
Here because I seen Pete Townsend highly recommends them & has played on every song of their new album
Just read an article in the i newspaper here in UK , about these two! Very good
Incredible String Band - ish 👍😎
Love the Bookshop Band! Got some CD boxes last year in Wigtown, a birthday gift to myself.🎉❤
Beautiful ❤
To paraphrase Jerry Maguire; you had me at Pete Townsend. Sold.
The best original uke song Ive ever heard / seen 👌 Is that Pete Townsend from The Who you mentioned’s involved?
The very same :) he played the weird synths on it and some percussion :) Thanks for the huge compliment
Wonderful
love it !
Thankyou :) 😊
This video could legitimately be labelled a Work ASMR, it is so calming. Thank You!
You're welcome 😊 all that paper and card shuffling
Great song! Did you play this on the Lockdown show? If not, I must have heard it at a live gig. Great arrangement too 😊
We may have done. I think it was written towards the end of those, maybe even after.
Great video!
Thankyou.
So schön! ❤️
Looking forward to it ! No offence, and it's a lovely idea, but "tour T-towels" made me chuckle😂💜💫
I love you from Robin Robin and to this day! Thanks for your art!
Thank you for your kind and encouraging words :) Much appreciated. Glad you're enjoying stuff. More on its way soon.
That vinyl is SO COOL! 😍
With Pete reliving his love of Fairport and ISB, let's hope he hooks up with Richard Thompson, and they take over the world. Thanks for uploading x
If Pete Townsend has anything to with it you bet it's going to be world class stuff.
Gorgeous! I know PT just joined in and the composition is entirey yours but im certain I can hear a touch of his beautiful song "Brooklyn Kids" during the harmony part at "For Safety, For Sanctuary" and its repeat. It has similarities to "an ocean between them" just a touch. czcams.com/video/V6oMGh8uGe0/video.htmlsi=Q9_kWleeAuNrBkct
This is great. How did you get hooked up with synthesiser and recording legend Pete? This recording sounds fantastic, whomever mixed it has done an excellent job. Your show at the book festival in Dundee is still one of the best shows/performances I've mixed ( i was fighting tears of joy/Stendhal syndrome for the whole show). I am so happy for you and your success 10/10
I love you two! Great Effects by simple stuff ! 😀
I dont know how to understand this feeling of being exposed to the underland and to deep time, this music is what i need
hi! I want y'all to know that I revisit this video and song every couple of months because I just love it so dearly. you've so delightfully captured the magic of erin morgenstern's masterpiece <3
Ah, thankyou Fiona. That means a lot. Would be lovely to record these songs one day
Thank you for posting this, it' be both wonderful and fun. The subtle singing gear changes are a delight. Arrrr. xx
Okay now i wanna reread the book while listening to this song !! It can’t get more beautiful than this, thank you very much for this magical incarnation of one of the most beautifully written books 🥹❤️
the song is so lovely and really made me feel in the book, if ever it gets adapted in audiobook with music or in a movie I NEED this music in it !! keep up the good work!
Absolutely Smashing…..how did I miss this one? 🤔
