Since plastic is by product of fossil fuel production, driving plastic around the country seems like throwing more fossil fuel after bad. Wouldn't it be better not to extract fossil fuels in the first place? Then there's nothing to make plastic with. Sincerely trying to understand.

Still only a couple of percent of the total soft plastics waste stream!! The real solution is soft plastic bans and producer responsibility. Fine them when their plastic is found as landfill pollution or if they're caught burning it

Excellent news...Just like the old days in the 1970's with 'Cash_A_Can, It's lots of fun to do', when I was a kid in 1974, it was a great way for the scouts and young people and their parents to exercise in the fresh air while earning some pocket money just by doing some recycling and at the same time cleaning up the environment for a small 5 cent a can reward. The container deposit 10 cent deposit and return if introduced finally in the State of Victoria after having seeing the CDS, been operating very profitable and successfully in our neighbouring state of South Australia for 40 plus years and today up and running in other Australian States, it is a win, win for all. Charities and community groups along with low income battlers will be rewarded 10cents cash reward for each and every aluminium, steel can and all plastic, cardboard thrown away food and drink containers that are rescued from ever going back into the trash or landfill and ultimately preventing this renewable valuable recyclable resource from polluting our environment through careless and irresponsible littering when the empty container was worthless. The biggest winner will be the environment, because if some carelessly just throws a can or bottle away, someone else will now pick it up, just like it was money or 10 cents lying on the ground waiting to be found. Sadly It's more than 40 years late in Victoria. But better now than never. ~ "Cash a Can, Cash a can, it's lots of fun to do. Look there's one"... Quote from the 70's/80's Cash_A_Can recycling days.
