Runaway by Aurora Arranged by Kira Zeeman Rugen
In this cover of Aurora's acoustic version of her Platinum-award-winning song "Runaway," this SSAA with acoustic guitar arrangement is suited nicely for featuring soloists while having a full complement of women's voices supporting the melody with dreamlike harmony. The tender melody, initially written by Aurora at the age of 11, talks about the universal desire to explore and escape into the world but that there are fears associated with that bravery. However, the softest and safest place to land is always at home, "where I belong."

Commissioned and premiered by Northwest Oklahoma State University Singers conducted by Karsten Longhurst performing at the Oklahoma Music Educators Conference. Sung by Pinnacle Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir - Music Director and Organist/Pianist - Ilona Kubiaczyk-Adler Nearer my God to Thee has always been one of my favorite hymns. This newly imagined, melodic, and harmonically modal approach to this...
Wexford Carol, Arranged by Kira Zeeman Rugen

On a rainy Christmas evening in December 2012, Kira Rugen sat down with her musician friend from Northern Ireland, Joel Cathcart, to play through a few tunes for their upcoming concert. On a whim, they scratched out, improvised, and wrote the basic form of this arrangement. With Joel on guitar and Kira singing, they made a simple recording of this famous tune. Kira always loved the simple recor...
What Child is This, Arranged by Kira Zeeman Rugen

Originally printed in a 1580 broadsheet under the name A New Northern dittye, Greensleeves (a Romanesca) became an unofficial anthem of England due to its popularity and distinctive folk song modalities. Contrary to popular stories, King Henry VIII did not compose this ‘dittye.’ In the Nineteenth Century, however, this famous tune received the now familiar Christmas words, What Child is This. O...

Balulalow has a varied history. Martin Luther wrote the Christmas Eve carol Von Himmel Hoch, da Komm ich Her, published in the 1535 volume Geistliche Lieder. VERY LOVELY KIRA! I AM PROUD OF YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS---DEAR GRANDDAUGHTER!!!
I was fortunate to be in a choir that included this masterpiece in a Christmas concert. I never tire of listening to it
Beautifully done (one of my most beloved Christmas hymns). And wonderful commentary, thank you, Kira Rugen.
Thank you. ❤️❤️
Beautiful song!! And what to say about Tennyson's poem...
Thank you so much for your kind words. I’m glad you enjoyed the piece!
I can't quite make out what's being sung behind the verses. Help?
It’s in Latin so yes, it’s hard to know the meaning without seeing the translation. You can see that here: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaudete
Also, program notes from that particular concert are here: kiradawn.wordpress.com/2013/12/06/french-christmas/
@@kiradawnaz Thanks for answering! Permit me to be more precise. I'm trying to discern what the others are singing *in the background* while the soloist on the far right sings "Tempus adest gratiae..." I can hear clearly what's being sung behind the "Deus homo factus est...", behind the "Ezechielis porta...", and that all singers are singing "Ergo nostra contio..." in unison. The reason for my curiosity is that all my children have loved this song ever since they first heard and are trying to learn it.
Oh! 😃 it’s just ‘Gaudete’ repeated but treated as a nonsense syllable in that case.
@@davidcharkowsky so sweet! Email me and I will send you the score. Kira@kirarugen.com

Great job! I adore this music!
Thank you. This is an all time favorite performance of mine.
@@kiradawnaz Great. If auditions for any virtual choir are occasionally coming for the rest of this pandemic, let me know. I have experience in singing sacred music as a tenor. Hugs!

what a glorious new version of this song! I love it.
Beautiful! I have always loved singing those solos. You did very well Kira. I loved the embellishments!
Thank you for posting this sublimely beautiful hymn.
that soprano melody "walk up to the walls," simple and genius... i love it. this is the first arrangement of 'joshua' that's really been a tour de force since Hogan's "The Battle of Jericho," and I'm pretty excited about this one
Ironically, that melody kinda reminds me of a villain in a superhero movie or maybe even a horror movie!
My choir is singing this song for competition! :) I am thrilled to perform it. It is a lovely piece of music :)
Yes... Worst possible sneeze timing.... ever.
There are mischievous spirits that run around just waiting for you to press the "record" button. Sneezes, coughs, dropped prayer books, keys and bibles, shifting chairs and closing doors are their specialty. They hide in these "thin places" waiting for the penultimate moment. 30 years of live recordings has taught me to live with this. Let Love reign anyway. 😇 Lovely recording of inspiring music. When the choir comes up the room responds. Our choir must sing this again.
@@SempreGumby this is 100% hilarious. Thanks for making me laugh. Yes…. Perfectly timed sneeze! 🤣🤣

Beautiful. I actually prefer this one to many overly pompous choir-and-orchestra performances. This is the Mozart that makes you smile.
