Friday July 29 22' I saw Ben's post on Telegram at 10am on Thursday about wanting to fly Wheeler Crest. I found out I had Friday off around 4pm and raced to get all my gear together. I left San Diego at 8pm to drive all night to get to Mammoth at 3am for this Hike & Fly. Met Ben Peck, Saphire ben's tandem passenger, and Blaine Harmon down by the golf course at 6am. The first piece you see was sent to professionals to scan because I needed extremely high accuracy to fit on the glasses lens. The rest of the scans I used a revopoint pop 3. The lenses, my face, and the nose cover were all scanned with the Pop 3. It's a $600 scanner, mostly for small parts, it can be difficult to use, and take many trys to get something usable. Also, anything dark, transparent, or shiny needs to be sprayed with scanning powder. Foot odor spray is cheap and works awesome. Scanning spray is expensive, but might be useful if the part cannot be cleaned.
Also, working with scan data in fusion360 is a hassle, and a ton of work. Parametric, square stuff with flat faces is easy. Anything organic with complex curves is really difficult. The free version of fusion360 does not allow you to convert a mesh to t spline body. The work around is to convert a tri mesh STL file to a quad mesh using a program like "instant Meshes". Then in fusion360 convert the quad mesh to t spline body which is much easier to work with.
@@markfaulkner8815 I have heard the revopoint is difficult but that is a very fair result for $600. I use a LEO to digitize automotive interiors
Hi Mark! CZcams gave me a great algorithmic happenstance and showed me your video. I am just getting started in scanning for reverse engineering.. What scanner did you use to digitize this? Looks very clean! Also, after a quick look through your videos, I have to say your flight over Portal is insane, love it man!!
you can make a scanner using kinect
@@gjergskender8536 haha very funny. a kinect cannot get anywhere close to this, we're talking about professional devices

Hi. What is the height difference
11,900−5,150= 6,750 ft
I see you from my house sometimes.
What time of year was it in this video? What were the conditions? I am guessing it was summer. Did you take a couple of collapses? Great video btw.
