Best video I've ever seen on the subject. Thank you
You are very welcome.
thanks for sharing
well explained thanks for sharing
Thanks for your illustrations and good teaching. 👍
I watched this movie well. I have one question. After removing the flywheel, there is no charging coil???😊
This engine does not have a charging coil.
Thank you for the knowledge! Quick and short straight to the point video
Only bad thing i have had with the honda engine and yhe harbor freight predator honda clones is the exhaust studs breaking of. On nee engine's i pull them and put hatder grade bolts in an not have any problems
Hello, I am working with the Honda GX390 engine. I need to determine the valve timing, how can I do this or do you have this information? This is the information I mean; 1) Intake valve opening angle:? 2) Intake valve closing angle? 3) Exhaust valve opening angle? 4) Exhaust valve closing angle?
So on my 4 stroke stihl weedeater when you adjust valves you spin the engine over until the arrow on flywheel is lined up with the ignition coil, and you wiggle it back and forth to make sure neither of the valves are moving, is this the same concept on this honda?
Exactly!
That is still a 2 stroke engine. Yes it has valves like a 4 stroke. Stihl calls it a 4 mix engine. Yes you do have to adjust the valves periodically.
heyy i wanna use this engine for a gokart i have this from a electric generator where can i find a transmission for it? cvt or a sequential prefer the sequential ofc 😂
Something like this? Mophorn Torque Converter 4-7HP Go Kart Clutch 1Inch Replaces Comet TAV2 Manco 10T 40 or 41 and 12T 35 Chain Drive Belt (1" 10T 40/41and 12T 35 Chain) a.co/d/jlkEn1P Not sure if it the correct fit.
Im working on rebuilding a gx340 that had water in the exhaust. I honed out a rust stain on the cylinder wall, i can only faintly feel it with my fingernail. Enough that im going to try run it with new piston rings. But i wonder what the wear tolerance is on the piston? The measurement shows 87.5mm on the top above the top ring. And right at 88mm on the skirts. Would you bother running it with new oem honda rings with those measurements? Not looking for top performance, just to run a water pump
I would just replace rings. The manual I have states the 340 having the skirt OD at 81.985 with a service limit of 81.85.
Fantastic, Crystal clear video. Thank you!
I wish the ones I take apart look anything as good as those 😂
Well we did start with new and it has never been on anything to make it work. Ya I wish they were always that clean, lol
Well don sir
Very informative. Thank you. Was that residual oil still left in the bottom of the case after draining?
Yes it was
How do you be certain the Compression release does not engage ? .....it is spring loaded to engage at low RPM and tightens up the exhaust valve ....
6 and 8 thou. For ise old SAE guys
I realize you belabored the compression stroke but you lost it when you went to the arrow. The arrow aligns also on the exhaust/intake stroke transition. The way you mentioned the marking might have been slightly unclear.
So we'll done guys, I am so impressed with your videos. They really are good
سعر المكنه الهوندا عامل كام 13
I have 2 sportsman generators that have this problem. Im hoping they are gx200 clones because I cant find replacement cams.
hi what size and model and brand is 3 jaw puller. if you are using snap on or OTC pls do provide me the 3 jaw puller name and model
Good video!
Thanks!
Sir is it okey if i put two seal ?
Are meaning one on the intake and one on the exhaust? The important one is the intake. No harm in putting one on the exhaust.
Yes sir ,but i put it already two valve seal .is it okey? Or i will take off the exhaust valve seal?
Fine to leave it on.
Thank you so much sir❤❤❤
Keep the oil changed regularly or you’ll pay the price folks They will stick tight from metal in oil It’s a fact 😊
Where can I buy that printed board for parts!?
@GatorSmallEngines Send me your contact information and I will email you the file.
Hi Jeff, The flywheel is keyed and can only go on one way but the fan can fit on the flywheel in three different position with the dowels. Recoil assy can only fit the fan in one position. The fan and recoil assy have the slots that line up with the holes above indicating TDC. How do you know which of the 3 positions the fan attachs to the flywheel. Thanks Great video just confused about that detail
On the rear of the fan there should be a dowl. It fits in the hole on the flywheel. If it is not in the hole the fan will not lay flat on the flywheel.
Would you be willing to share the file for the 3d printed organizer you guys created? I teach small engines and auto and that is the best form or organization I've ever seen!
Send me an email and I will send you the file. jtkasprick@gmail.com
My friend owns his own brick laying company . He has a mortar mixer powered by a 8hp Briggs @Stratton horizonal shaft engine. Those engines would last one season then would give up the ghost. Nothing against B@S but that mixer was run under distress for 10 hours a day, requiring a new engine every year. I asked him one day while he was changing oil in the mixer why he didn't buy a Honda and forget the buying of a new engine annually? He said they, the Honda, was too expensive. I laughed at the tight bastard and more or less hounded him, shamed until he bought a new eight horse Honda to replace the Briggs. That was seven years ago, same engine he bought brand new is still on the machine. It doesn't look like Honda covered over with mortar soup. He changes oil in that machine every Monday morning , casually thanking me for the tip.
the intake stem seal is it dificult to place on position?
found this video very interesting and informative, have a question, my engine hass massive kick back when i try to start it, i've check valves how many time. is there a way to check the decompressor or a specific point to set the valves with the decomp not engaged?
A failed compression release will make it really difficult to start, but shouldn't cause kickback. That would usually be a spark timing issue, such as a sheared flywheel key. An engine I repaired with compression release failure was "190F" (Chinese GX420) on a Westinghouse branded generator. It had remote start, which apparently automatically cranked until the starter burnt up. After that the starter rope only lasted a handful of pull starts. I replaced the starter cord, tried to pull start, and immediately decided that the broken rope was a symptom rather than the failure. If you pull the valve cover and pull the engine over slowly it is easy to see the compression release bump the exhaust valve slightly.
Very detailed explaination. Are you up for a collaboration? Hipa supplies parts for small engines and I'm looking for youtubers to work with to share more tips on small engine repairing. Are you interested in?
Interested. Send me an email jtkasprick@gmail.com @hipaparts
Muy bien trabajo, desde España
I put a finger on the rockers push rod end just to keep it well seated while using feeler gauge.
Had a gx390 backfiring bad. Exhaust valve was extremely off. Adjusted it and it fired right up. Thank you for the easy to follow video. Now I need to get my hands on a 1/4" torque wrench. Thanks again!
Hi Jeff, Do you have a Workshop repair manual for the Honda GXV390 and anything else
What causes Gx390 to swallow fuel
Are you meaning using an excessive amount of fuel?
Yes excessive amount of fuel..
I am assuming no external leaks. Is it running rich?
What are you using it for?
*I sure like the video and "What Not"........ he he he.....LOL !*
I know....and what not. Lol. Didn't realize how many times I said that.
@@jtkasprick *Great video, I just bought a generator with that engine. Your video is very informative and is really nicely done and "wn"......he he*
DRILL a hole in your table for the crankshaft to fall into so you can assemble the engine on it's side instead of fighting to hold it up while installing parts.
If the engine is not going to run right away, why do you not use assembly lube on all moving parts?? as it has very high "cling" properties!
Any difference in the black shrouded GX 390s ? Looking at a woodsplitter with one on it...thx
I think they are the same.
my gx340 exhaust valve open slightly after intake valve closes during initial compression stroke to halfway compression stroke, is that normal?
The exhaust valve could be set to tight. During starting there is a decomposition valve that will open the exhaust vavle slightly during the compression stroke to aid in starting. I do have a video on that on my channel.

Great video and explanation. How can I send you a PM on information on your sponge organizer for nuts & bolts.😀
Email me at jtkasprick@gmail.com. it is 3d printed. I have the file if you would like it.
Very good job of teaching and educating the students Hope they all do well 😊
Why would it all of s sudden fail on a EB5000X generator
This is only one of a few reasons it could be hard to pull over. A sudden failure could be something mechanical
The middle compression ring does have a taper napier facing...and the letter "R" inscribed.... on the top side (left side of break) Very good video... regards from Ireland.
Last time you use the tool for what?
What tool are you referring to?
1:06 hi, I clicked on those 4 links but any of them is the “Engine Assembly Information”. The one that is closer to this is the “Repair Info”. Could you pls add a link to this one that you have shown? Thanks a lot for the video and for the other links in description.
I've used this sprayer several times now on brick pavers, a wood deck, patio, and a driveway. czcams.com/users/postUgkx43QMbQqu67IZadu9ou8Sg1BdrunMRNqX It has performed as expected on all surfaces. For larger areas like the decks and patios, I think I will be looking into a surface cleaner attachment to speed up the job, or at least make it a little easier. Hose and sprayer connections are tool-less, tight, and quick. I used the yellow nozzle on the concrete/brick surfaces, and the pressure was adequate for cleaning those surfaces.I am disappointed that these units are still being shipped with a nozzle storage holder that allows them to vibrate out of the holder way too easily and become lost, but I don't want to knock off a star for that reason. The functional part of the washer works very well, so I would recommend this product.
Same thing with the Briggs and Stratton engines. My Husky mower seemed to have vapor lock or not enough starter power. Kept charging or buying new batteries. Then learned about a massive number of B&S engines having the same problem. To date, B&S have not assumed responsibility for this.
