Making a Loomis Head from Stainless Steel!
A loomis head is a great shape and concept in sculpture work. Though it’s traditionally made from clay, I make sculptures from steel so I’ve figured out how to make the loomis head with steel and want to show you how! Metal is very much like clay - given the right tools. Welding allows me to build up steel where I need it, and grinding allows me to knock it down, reshape and refine just like clay.

I experimented today and tried a new method of starting a sculpture! I think it’s an improvement and progress and should help me to make more sculptures in the future! Starting any sculpture is the hardest part - especially welded sculptures - so I needed to come up with a more efficient and accurate method. I’m always learning and looking to improve!
