    get two hand held radios and put one inside and try to communicate with it and see if you can hear it. Wranglestar did something similar but just wrapped the radio in two sheets of foil in a can and that seemed to stop transmission. Would be interesting to see if this configuration would do the same!

    """you have to do this, you have to do that, take a trash can, don't take a trash can, use the microwave, NO" especially not that", no aluminum tape! You need paper with holes, the test with the cell phone is not valid, To find out if it is waterproof, ring your cell phone in it, I am an engineer, I am a physicist, I am the pope, if the water passes it is not correct, no obligation to be waterproof, just put it in aluminum in a cupboard, it will stop everything, everything will pass, you need an inch of cardboard, just two thicknesses of cardboard is fine, yes grounding, grounding risks bringing the charge to your cage, I'm the one who built the nuclear bombs I know!, you really don't have to think too much People don't think so... So I put my cat in it! will be ok? Yes but if you are the last human you are going to talk to? the metal must be military, """ THANK YOU EVERYONE, YOU ARE A GREAT HELP TO THOSE WHO KNOW NOTHING ABOUT IT. EVERYTHING IS CLEAR NOW.

    Instead several sheets of Reynolds’s Warp/aluminum foil, I suggest you get some inexpensive but thicker aluminum foil from a dollar store, like a Turkey pan, and cut to size and shape. Easier than multiple layers.

    You are only as old as you think you are. Think young and you will be young! Best thing I did was ROTC while in college, recently retired as one of Uncle Sam’s Misguided Children, O6. 38 years. Worked in Embassy Comms, and was lucky to also work with CT as well. Living in the south eastern EU, a bit too close to some of todays conflicts. I have used a new NEMA aluminum enclosure (24”x24”x10”) Did the conductive gaskets on the case and insulated the interior and it works good up to 1.9 GHz. Might try hitting it with my Ka band radar while having a radar detector inside it. Nice thing is it can run pulsed or continuous. It’s running at around 24 GHz. BTW OPA in Greek is an expression of happiness and Joy!

    When you test for a seal to the can, you need to scrape a bit of paint from the can and then do a continuity test from the foil to the can. I do like this idea! For those who have deep pockets you can buy special rubber gaskets that can replace the lid gasket. They have fine wires woven in to contact the can and the lid. The adhesive is also conductive but you will have to take the paint off of the lid where the gasket sticks to the metal. Then you have a great electrical seal.

    Dear lord, I think this is the smartest thing Ive ever seen. You keep the rubber gasket in place, AND increase the quality and integrity of the EM seal. This is absolute genius and so simple. There is a truism about great inventions and scientific theories .... when someone comes up with something amazing everyone stands around saying "thats so simple, why didnt I come up with that!" Dude you nailed it. The whole prepper community is doing it wrong by removing the rubber gasket and mashing foil into the gap. You minimized the amount of work You keep the rubber seal and waterproof quality of the ammo can You increase the EM protection. Sir, I salute you.

    @georgepatterson5885 Před 10 měsíci

    Your test is faulty...you checked for continuity on the foil...of course it worked. And continuity most likely exist on the bottom.half of the can...but to prove it you need to sand off some paint on the bottom of the can and apply your multi meter to the foil and bottom of the can together. Also...make sure nothing in the can touches the foil or can edges or it is for naught.

    Nice video. However your continuity testing for verification is faulty on many levels it's almost laughable. Do you have continuity between the foil and the base of the box? And all the way around the lip? It's not like testing a wire or relay. Your container can have many imperfections as well as the foil and you will still get continuity. If I were to use your method I would give a probability of 60 to 75% it would work. For good measure I may also wrap the items inside the container with foil a couple of times. Along with using the thicker /sturdier foil.

    Thanks for this great suggestion! I may have a suggestion for improvement. Instead of using aluminum foil, buy a very thin flat aluminum baking sheet - those that are the weight of a pie tin. Then cut the sheet close to the size of the ammo box, but a little bigger on both sides and one end. Take the lid off the can and mold the baking sheet to fit the inside of the lid after snugging one end under the hinge part. If you are careful, you can get it to cover the entire lid over the rubber gasket. It will work just like your foil, but the baking sheet is tougher and doesn't tear nearly so easily. Your idea and thinking, the baking sheet is just tougher than the foil! Thanks again!

    A question for all the EMP preppers. Are you going to just toss your phone and computer and any backup hard drives in to the Faraday box and leave them in case an EMP hits? Or are you planning on running in, dumping your electronics in just before because you got a notice that NK is going to explode a device over your head? Unless you have a missle silo in the next yard and you see it launch, how are you going to know there is a strike going to occur in the next 30 minutes or less? BTW, phones won't be any good except as a flashlight. The cell network will be down. All of your apps that are on The Cloud will be gone. All files stored on The Cloud will be gone. Unless you have the app installed on the laptop like the old days (software from disk or CD) and the files stored on your hard drive, you will just have a paperweight.

      Items that go in a cage are not edc. Hard drive with backups, pair or three ham radios, old cell phone, burner phone, old iPad, chargers, converters, etc. A 2TB drive runs you about $100 for a decent one. You can put all of Wikipedia on there. All of Wikihow. Anything else you want. Public maps, etc. The mindset of prepping, is what can I do now, that I wish I had done before.

  • @tommissouri4871
    @tommissouri4871 Před rokem

    You guys are working at it too hard. If you are bugging out, aren't you taking any pots and pans to cook in? Drop your cell phone in a pot and put the lid on. If you are worried about enough pulse to electrify the pot, wrap a wire around the handle and a metal stake in the ground, with a bit of water poured on the ground around the stake. And you could just wrap the device in aluminum foil and ground the foil with a wire. Faraday cages don't have to be watertight. I worked at Motorola in the '80s and '90s and we had several walk-in ones through the buildings. They looked like the old ham gear cases, perforated so that cool air-conditioned air and light could get through, but no signal. BTW, why worry if your cell phone fries. If we get an EMP pulse, the cell towers are all gone anyway. The only thing you might want to protect is a laptop because of content stored on it. But you won't be getting any outside data anymore. So all of your Cloud-based apps and storage are gone.

    Inside the can you are not protected if your electronics is touching the metal case from inside. Very important to have that cardboard layer (for insulation) that he shows but doesn't talk about. Better would be rubber layers like cut-up inner tube material. Best of all is to have a device, surrounded by insulation, then full layer of metal. Then another layer of insulation, then another layer of metal. The more distance between the protected device and the outside world, and the more layers of insulation-metal-insulation-metal-insulation-metal the better. For instance, an ammo box like this is hyperprotected if wrapped in insulation and put inside a small metal garbage can, that is insulated, and put inside a larger metal trash can that is up off the ground insulated by plastic feet. Concrete conducts electricity including lightning strikes by way of the rebar inside the concrete.
