love yr pronounciation of the maori place names around our town ..great vids thanks!
I love how you included commentary about the history of the track and area as well! Feels like a school trip 💙
My understanding where the name Wainuiomata came from. After Teraparaha invaded Lower Hutt and the women and children fled over the hill into wainuiomata where they were found weeping. The translation is Tears of Mata, who was a Maori woman.
Very interesting. Great information. Thanks for that
As a young teen in the mid 60s I visited my older married sister who lived in Ngongataha, made friends very quickly, it was the first time I ever drove a car (1950 Ford Prefect) I was 14 and even had my first romantic kiss there… yuk lol. There were places that tourists could go called Rainbow Springs and Fairy Springs where you could play with tame trout, some locals had a back yard with a small hot spring which some converted to cook food from the naturally heated volcanic underground, others built or constructed a private mineral bathing pool, very therapeutic, there was no place like it. Others my age took me to places where we could catch fish, mainly large Trout, was an amazing experience will never forget it.
What lovely memories you have. It appears the Springs closed thanks to the effects of Covid
The coldest I have EVER been in my life was when I stayed at a friend's place near the river. It was winter and misty and the cold just seeped into your bones, I couldn't get warm.
I know exactly what you mean. We've been there on those cold, foggy days too. That's Taumarunui for ya!
You idiots that road was closed to both vehicles and push bikes including foot traffic for safety reasons including the gorge walk.
I live in Patea 🙂 I'm happy that you enjoyed your time up at the Dam and sharing your hoilday exspearance at the dam. I hope you get a chance to return to Patea and see how much has change since your last visit. Plus Patea now got a 5km walkway for you and your family to enjoy whn you go on your walk about.
Thanks for that. Sounds like something we'd enjoy.
Such a cool video 👍
Great Video guys, thanks for coming to Battle Hill, I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. Ranger Gary (the old ranger...apparently not the hot young one🤣)
So nice to hear from one of the rangers. Thanks for watching and for the nice comment
Love your videoes you give some great history points which I like 😊
Thank you very much!
Very cool thank you
👍👍
SO, who made it??? Why are they to scared to look at its origin???? WOULD it be that they would lose their creditability....no more free cash?.
You have to wonder huh!
No ancient civilization as the conspiracy theorists like to push with the Kaimanawa wall BS 😅
cool video! Next time you should have a look at the cop shop near the museum.
Oohh. Sounds interesting. Good to know. Thanks for that.
I have said goodbye to a few family members at Saint Marks and have many family members at Claireville Cemetery. Southend school was my school and the little house next to it was my grandmothers.
Oh wow. That's sad to hear. Thanks for that interesting information.
Good to see the old road again, my Great Grandfather helped build the original road and railway and my Grandfather helped to widen the road in later years. My Great Grandfather was also the last toll operator for the Ballance end of the gorge, he was also there before Woodville even existed.
Wow. That's so interesting. Great information. Thanks for sharing.
seems SO MUCH FUN !!!!
Oh yes. Always fun.
Good to see u guys in Wellington enjoying
Thanks so much for the videos, I love finding out more about the places you go to!
Thanks so much. We love finding out more about the places we go to too lol
good on you for doing this, the funny thing is that once the new road is finished the old road will become a cycle track.
Haha quite possibly
He tohu whakamau mahara he tohu whakamau mahara ki te tono maha i ngaro i roto o Waitangi kāti whenua i rere tukituki iho mai te wai-ā-moe tukua mā ngā hau āwhiowhio ki kōruarua kautau hai mihi hai tangi-haere oti atu ra Kāi te whatu manawa kautau e iri ana Englsih (not perfect) A magical sign of recollection is a memorable sign of the mass appeal lost in the country's water-flowing water from the water-free through the swirling winds to the 1980s to greet it as a sound-out Cara the heart-wrenching eye hanging
That's lovely. Thank you
Great video team, keep up the great work. Plenty of history there.
Thanks for that. Much appreciated
I remember the go cart track at Pauatahanui when I was younger, it was known as Duck Creek. At Battle Hill there was a grassy open area by the stream, at the north end of the reserve where my dad's work would have their kids christmas party. We'd play games and Father Christmas would come with presents.
What lovely memories for you.
Great Video Guys, an area i know quite well but based on your video I learned lots, thanks for sharing
Thanks for that. It was our pleasure.
u didint thats feilding where i am!!!!!!!
Beautiful. Kia ora from Sydney..
Thanks. Kia ora too or G'day mate! LOL

Robert's going back again today visiting our kids camping there once more.

Really stupid thing you did walking on the tracks and the bridge and that "no trespassing" sign is there for a reason and not a decoration. If a train was coming and had to apply emergency braking while on the bridge would put huge amounts of strain on the bridge. If you think it's ok to walk along railway lines then I suggest you go talk to a train driver that has had to go through the unfortunate event of hitting and killing someone that was doing the same stupid thing you just did.
Yes. Have learnt my lesson and been told off multiple times. I will definitely think before doing stupid things in future. Thanks and no more train tracks for me.
Living the dream, thanks for sharing as always <3
Our pleasure!
Such a lovely old soul you are. A calming & fun commentary thats a pleasure to listen to.
Oh thank you. Much appreciated
Great informative video guys.
Thanks. Our pleasure
Having grown up there, this was good to watch, Thank You
Thanks. Our pleasure
That's a great place to wander isn't it
It was lovely. To just take your time and wander around. Perfect.
That was a bit of a gnarly track!
It sure was especially when you are of an age such as we are lol. But was still fun.
And now I want some nachos 😁
I did that walk with friends in March last year, they're a hidden treasure aren't they
That's good to hear. Oh yes. They certainly are. We so enjoy them.
❤❤ thanks for taking the time to record your exploration of Tauranga
Thanks. Our pleasure.
Just before I moved to Australia in 1989 I seem to recall the opening of a Deer Freezing works. Is it still open?AAlso is the Takapau freezing works still open?
The Takapau freezing works is still operating but only know of a Deer freezing works down in the South Island in Canterbury
@r-and-d-adventures 1986 or 7,one sister was living in Onga Onga another in Takapau and a small 2 chain deer freezing works opened in Waipukurau I'm fairly sure but it was a long time ago, sad if it's closed already.
@@bb21again.67 Yes. Apparently it operated for 26 years then shut down. That's the sign of the times huh.
It's nice being out in the bush!
Yes. Agree. We love it.
Thanks for the walk through the tunnel. Looks the same as it did when we used to go exploring as kids in the late 50's
That's so interesting. And as kids you wouldn't have had to bend all the way too. Good fun. Thanks
Looks like the tunnel is through limestone 😮
Hey that's good to know. Thanks for that
I took my visually impaired friend to the OngaOnga historic village. It was closed then too. She enjoyed it as she still had a little bit of sight. Pukeora hill was somewhere I remembered when I was a child as I'm sure the main road then was right at the bottom of the hill
That's so good to hear. Thanks
Thanks for the video. And thank you for the little bits of history too
Thanks for the video of the town and shearing the history. We will be moving to Central Hawkes Bay in a few weeks. All the way from South Africa
That sounds great. I hope you enjoy New Zealand.
great vid... i enjoyed much,.. i have been to Taupo 5 or 6 times in the last 40 years ... and been road works every time lol,.. coming back again from Sydney in 10 weeks,... cant wait,...
That's awesome!
Hey i go to petone now and then
Hey that's good to know. Enjoy
@@r-and-d-adventures yep
Was your ankle OK climbing up and down the hill?
Yes thank you. I go slow and watch where I put my feet these days lol. The ankle is still a little stiff and doesn't want to bend properly, like it used to.
I love the blossoms (and trees) so much at the Esplanade in Palmy and at Massey. I’m the American from Chicago who loves your videos and story telling so much. And when I’d come to visit a friend in Wangas and Palmy back in the early 2000s it’s one of the places that made the 30 hour trip worth it 😊 thanks to you and Robert for the all the lovely trips down memory lane.
That's so lovely. Great to hear and glad you're enjoying them.
