I walked through Bradford a few years ago, coming from Australia where our cities have little in the way of heritage, and thought the City Centre was magnificent. No matter what other problems the city might have, there's some really beautiful architecture. It's a shame to hear that it used to have even more before it got knocked down.

I would like to mention the “Never Stop Railway”. It consisted of conventional track, but between the rails was a parallel helix, of varying pitch, revolving at a constant speed. The vehicles extended a vertical roller, into the helix, which acted like a revolving bolt moving a nut along its length. Being so unreliable, it was nicknamed the “Never Start Railway”. Nevertheless, friends of mine, enjoyed sitting in the coach to eat their picnics.

There were definitely tunnels for an underground rail system in Leeds. Not sure how much was excavated in City Square but there is evidence just of Wellington Street. There is at least one ventilation shaft on Queen Street. It is just outside the entrance to the office building at 21 Queen Street and is about the size of a tall litter bin. This is a vent for one of the tunnels that was actually excavated as part of the underground that was never completed.

The boating lake is quite shallow and the bottom is concrete. I’ve stood in it a couple of times as a kid. I would imagine that the other lakes are constructed in the same way so the ‘springs’ are unlikely to be natural. Thanks for the great videos about Battersea Park; it was a wonderful journey down memory lane.

as iv'e lived in denholme from 1950 i can remember trains running on that line and i even went to blackpool when i was very young with my parents on a day trip, changing at keighley, the line closed to passenger traffic about 1955 and stayed open to goods until the late 50's or early 60's, as a kid in the late 50's or early 60's when the lines were still down we used to walk through the tunnels as far as thornton road bridge then on the road to thornton swimming baths and back the same way, in the 80's i walked most of the bradford to denholme line taking photo's along the way but not through the tunnels as they were blocked up and getting overgrown by then, by that time the big stone facing of the denholme entrance to the wellheads tunnel had long dissapeared ?and was being used as a tip and the cutting had been walled off, in the early 2000's i worked at the timber yard where the station was for a few years before it went bust, on the suject of the remaining goods shed, which was the office of the timber yard and the saw mill, it was said that before it was burnt down, sustrans were going to make it into some sort of a museum to the alpine railway as it was a listed building but the long winded plans of the footpath they had proposed were never implimented, though, i think they still wanted it to be implimented at some stage, before the developers got going the goods shed suddenly burst into flames at 3am one morning, blamed on kids of course, a fireman told me , we get alot of listed buildings that spontainiously combust when they get in the way of future developments, ah memories memories.

Ok.....i used to work here. Spent a year of my life in the Olde Bell. Its a very creepy place. I always heard strange noises and phenomenon. Used to do the occasional night manager shift. Guests always used to ask me in the morning if i had walked the halls at a certain time.....and i didnt. I had one route to check certain areas at night and that was just once per night. Daz did you notice the orb come past you at 8:53 in the vid while you were talking? 😲 Its been a good 15 years since i worked there...i was in my early 20s.
