The Breville Bambino and DeLonghi Dedica are almost the same espresso machine: both are similar size, look, and price. I like both espresso machines as they are compact and great for beginners at a good value. They have simple interfaces with two volumetric dosing options for espresso, which is really all you need. Also, both have great steam wands.
The details separate these two. The espresso quality is a little different because of small features. This comes down to the nature of the pre-infusion and the portafilter size.
The steam wands are also a little different, where the edge comes to the DeLonghi Dedica. The Dedica steam wand is partially insulated for non-burn and easy cleaning. The Breville Bambino steam wand has some lag to start and stop. Both produced a really nice microfoam for me.

How To Backflush An Espresso Machine (With A Breville Barista Pro)
What you didnt do was lift the weight off the scale and put it back down several times. I have the apexstone and it sucks beyond belief. If you tare out a container then move it or pick it up for any reason and put it back down it shows a different wieght. Which makes it useless.
Super helpful video! Clear, concise, well thought out. Thank you!
Thank you very much for your kind effort. I have 3 holes steaming nozzle, I could not make the milk gets velvety snd foamy, I tried tens of times but unfortunately no use🤕 when I pour the milk after steaming to my espresso it goes down and not floating. I decided finally to change the 3 holes nozzle to one hole nozzle, hopefully it works. Best regards
Great video! Keep up the good work!
Great video, It helped me decide!
Mumbling, mumbling "tesgedacupacoffee!"
maybe a silly question, but I've combed your videos about this machine and can't find the answer either there or online--how many holes does the steam wand for this machine have?
You probably could shorten the pressure valve internal spring or replace the spring with a shorter one instead of unscrewing the pressure valve. Sincerely Robert
Good recommendation - there is another link in the comments for the proper 9-bar spring.
This was Very Helpful in making my decision!!
WELL DONE👏
It's very hard to find a good & simple coffee machine review that's not obnoxious or annoying. Bravo!
Thank you!
I have no clue what to do. I grind finer and finer and the coffee flows like crazy (14-15) seconds. I tamp as hard as I can😢. Any help appreciated.
Did you change your inner burr? That could be the issue. Walk through here: czcams.com/video/A7_6QX4GD6E/video.htmlsi=h3LlEd_2y2BI7jv8
@@craftcoffeespot Thanks for hinting this!
The pod availability especially by cheaper third party brands make the original a clear win for me
You can change the inner burr on the grinder, so in reality you have many more settings, seems like just a game of numbers. You can also do a longer pre-infusion on the Express/Express impress, you don't mention this in any of your videos when you compare the Express machines with pro!
Fair point on pre-infusion. Probably right on grind sizes too. Over time, I think the OPV change on pressure is the biggest difference between Express Impress, Pro, and Express. The thermojet makes a difference. I spoke to a Breville engineer who was saying their upcoming dual ThermoJet is more temp stable than the Dual Boiler! Anyway, the logic has changed some since filming, but pressure and heating system are very important and very different. I recommend the Express Impress mostly, because self-tamping is just so easy. I also like the Pro if you don’t mind the work and want to steam milk. And budget option is Breville Bambino + DF64 --> that’s what I use now.
Lololol I just bought the gevi after owning the express it’s such a cheap crappy machine.
I think you are contradicting yourself in this video. You say "stir once and only once", but you've actually stirred the coffee TWO times: once when you first added a small amount of water, and then again when you added the remaining water. When you finished adding the water, you actually stirred the coffee more than once to my eye (more than one circle of the spoon in the press).
You got me - I do stir twice. There was an extra stir at the bloom stage, but that's really to make sure all the coffee is saturated. It's less about the "true stir" that you do when all the water is in, which is more meant to increase extraction once. What is most important is to avoid over stirring later in the brew, because it causes too much sediment to get into your cup
Mine still won’t open😭
Reach out to Nespresso - may be under warranty.
@@craftcoffeespot naw I got it now thanks tho
why is my coffee coming out first then milk?
Not sure. Doesn't natter though.
I like the "less mess" of the Impress model during tamping. I just received my unit today and the pressure gauge needle does not move during brewing. Any ideas?
Grind finer! It's flowing too quickly, so no pressure is building.
So I have been manually pulling my shot on my breville express. I hold it down for pre infusion 8-10 seconds at 10 seconds I release the button and let it shoot up to 9 bars of pressure but by the time I get 36 grams of coffee I’m now only 18-20 seconds in. Is there a way I can slow down the extraction down even with 9 bars. if I grind finer it will over extract and the pressure will go to high. Any help will be appreciated. Should I let the pre infusion go even longer like 12 Seconds ? Thank you.
I would grind finer. Brevilles run over 9 bars. Also, don't get too hung up on time. It sounds like it tastes good. Some beans can go 20 seconds, others 40. If you want an advanced trick, try modifying the OPV inside the Breville. We have that on another video here: czcams.com/video/A4xpuETJnzY/video.html
At 4:28 min you have grind size 11 … At 4:21 min you have gs. 12 At 5:40 you have gs. 10 ?????
We did several cuts to get it right and I believe the final setting was 11. However, it depends on your beans!! Tweak your grind setting unit it takes roughly 30 seconds to finish a shot that is a 1:2 ratio of coffee:espresso. This is where you should get a scale as well.
Videos like this are very important. Thank you for putting this out there.
You're welcome. Thank you for the feedback!
Great video, I’m debating on what to get and I think I’ll just get the porta filter, wdt, and scale. Thanks for saving me money!
You're welcome! Please use the links in the description to find the product, as it really supports the channel.
Yes no frills succinct review - i have outgrown my Bambino plus and looking at Gaggia Evo with 9bar, PUD and dimmer modification installed into a new machine ...
Let me know how the mod is - thinking about more mods myself for a GCP.
We recently stayed at two Hyatt hotels that had a Nespresso machine in the room. Now we're hooked on Nespresso. We've already ordered a Plus to replace our Keurig at home.
Thanks for video. Manual says dont use espresso beans because it can damage the grinder. But how can it then make espresso?
Any coffee beans can make espresso, espresso is about how you make a coffee as a concentrated quantity, not the beans. “Espresso beans” really means “very dark roast”. You should avoid really dark roasted beans, because they are oily and the oil clogs the grinder. That’s the problem. I think you’ll find medium roast tastes better and less bitter/burnt. Also, if you’re buying specialty beans (like stumptown, intelligentsia, or counter culture), expect they’ll all be good even their “espresso roast.” Tl;dr don’t use cheap, oily coffee beans!!
I'm ready to go back to my Keurig machine; these pods are ridiculously expensive which I did not know when I bought my machine...
What did you say at 0:52? Why to use within a week?
They lose freshness faster than regular pods. Can’t reseal it as strongly as original.
11:16 dialed in for unicorn blood by dark matter (10 grind, 2:1)
Do you know if the steam pump can be changed out from the berville barista express to the Breville barista touch??? I have used the Breville touch abd the steamer is much stronger than the express, if it can you should do a video on that I'm sure everyone will love it! Thanks fkr this one ill have to give it a go!
It cannot. The steamer is driven by the heating system and they are very different on the two models - thermojet vs thermocoil. Different sizes and everything.
Is possible increase the quality os the streamer in breville express pro (machine selling in Brazil) a or make a mod? With I make the mod dimmer, I need change this opv? Or the dimmer will fix the bar? @@craftcoffeespot

My dedica arte came with milk jag, all the pressurized baskets, a metal tamper, a descaler and a scoop. Pretty good deal for 210 euros. If bambino was a bit cheaper I'd probably buy it instead. The prices here are 210 for the arte and 280-350 for the bambino (usual price is 350)
That’s expensive for the Bambino! Usually it’s $300 US

Really great video
I don’t know what’s wrong with mine. It doesn’t even fill up a medium cup . My settings are all the way up.
Make your grind size coarser. Also, remember all these sizes are relatively small. The largest is still 6-8 oz. For a big drink, you’re better off making a double espresso and adding hot water.
We’re all rooting for the cheap one.🤭
Just as a video maker, got to commend you on great audio!
Thanks! Audio is something we work on a lot.
You should only change your grind size while grinding, otherwise it won't adjust. That explains your inconsistent times
Thank you so much - I am not the espresso aficionado my husband is. I am a tightwad who will buy him an espresso machine for his birthday. This helps me compromise our values. 🙂
Tried all methods to fix the right pressure--- tamping, grind size, cleaning and descaling, tight locking ... but this only finally worked. Thanks
What was your grind size for the Breville? You mentioned it for the Delonghi but not for the Breville.
I believe around 9-11 grind size.
I used to have a Vertuo Plus years ago & loved it. Although, the automatic open & close was a slight hinderance for some pod hacks that I used sometimes. I recently bought a Vertuo Next & I have immediately noticed that it brews cooler. I prefer my drinks to be cooler while drinking, but I do think the higher temp during brewing increases the flavors. They still taste good, but I think they were better in years past with the higher temps. I like having the larger capsule options. I had planned to get the newer Pop version because of its small size & capsule options, but got this Next nearly half price at a flea market, brand new in box for $80. Cheaper with the Aero3 & capsule pack than a new Pop. So, I went with it. It’s working well & I haven’t had any leakage. But, I’ve only had it a week so far.
Great feedback - thank you!
Ah... I think the 1 Stir thing will be most helpful, thank you! Also, the slow press and not all the way to the bottom. Can't wait to try these! Oh, and starting the timing at the first pouring of the water. I have been pouring in the water slowly, taking about 45 seconds to fill the French Press, and THEN starting a 5 minute timer. I will change that, thanks to you! BTW, I use the exact same Baratza grinder 😁
Let me know how it goes! Would love your feedback on this recipe.
@@craftcoffeespot Yeah, I'm gonna try it tomorrow. I'm thinking those 2 steps and the proper timing should help. I don't mind if the coffee comes out 'too' strong, I do like it very strong and rich, just not sour, acidic, or bitter. I guess that's why I would leave the Organic Coffee Company French Roast sit so long, but with this Cubano I think I'm going to have to change things somewhat. Also too, I've been consistently using 40 grams of the beans, but my French press I think only holds maybe about 12 oz, so I've always thought it seemed like a lot more than many others recommend. But, it always seemed like I had to use that much to get it to be strong and flavourful enough. On your chart, for strong it does show 40 grams for about 16 oz., so that is close. I need to measure exactly how much the press holds. I do fill it to the exact same place every time and it ends up filling a normal cup to about 1/2" from the top and then another normal cup about halfway, so that's why I'm guessing 12 oz. ***EDIT I just looked up my French Press from my orders on Amazon 4 years back, it is the Bodum 17oz Chambord French Press, which I totally did not remember 😊I fill it to about 1" from the very top, I pour the water until it reaches the bottom of the chrome ring that holds the glass part. So, since I don't think I should fill it any higher than that, I'm guessing that probably is then about 16 oz, so that fits what you recommend for 'strong' coffee. So, basically, when I pour all the water in and I put the top on it firmly, the screen is sitting just above the water line, which is about 1" from the top of the glass, which I HOPE is right! 😁
@@craftcoffeespot Bro, all I can say is that you frigg'n *ROCK!!!* 👍 Yep... I followed your instructions precisely and I must say that it was indeed one of the most balanced cups of coffee I have made! 😁 I could TOTALLY tell the difference, there was no acidity, all I can really describe the flavour as, is 'Balanced' Like I mentioned, there are no levels shown on the French press itself, so I just fill it up to where when I put the top on it would be just above the water level. I can't tell by the cups because they are just generic household cups, but going by the water I put in the glass tea kettle and how much is left, I would guess that I am using somewhere in the neighbourhood of between 450 to less than 500 ml, so that should be about right. The ONLY thing I don't think you address in your excellent video is I don't think you mention how hot the water should be. Or, if you do I missed it. I use a standard old fashioned glass tea kettle. Some say that when you turn off the heat after it is fully boiling, you should wait about a minute, or basically when the movement settles down (I really don't want to bother with a thermometer 😊) and then start your pouring. But, otherwise I followed everything you said and WOW, yeah, I would say it came out perfectly. The only thing is that I might want to make it a bit stronger, and I really don't want to use more than 40 grams each time, it already goes fast enough as it is! Perhaps, maybe after doing everything else exactly the same, do you think I might let it sit 5 minutes instead of 4? Would that make it a little stronger, but without affecting the balance of it too much, what do you think? Otherwise, WOW man! You totally nailed it, out of all the voluminous CZcams/web articles that talk about this, *YOU* nailed it mate! Thank you SO very, very much! If you have a moment and you wouldn't mind, please, if you could just comment on the timing or anything else that I may do to make it a tad stronger without affecting the taste too much, and also about the timing with boiling the water and temperature, that would be awesome, thanks!
@@latheofheaven NICE!!!! Love hearing this kind of success! Two comments: 1) I have a kettle set at 200 F even. That works for me, and I think the 1-3 minutes after boil works the same. Temperature is a nice “tweak” to try. Just be consistent. 2) tweak your grind size. I suggest grind a tad finer once you get used to it. Finer will push the taste a little stronger and my guess is you’ll like it that way. Be careful, because too fine will get bitter fast. Anyway, glad you liked it! Always love hearing a success story!
@@craftcoffeespot Awesome, thank you! Didn't think about messing with the grind, but it's worth a try...

Pretty consistent feedback - many people dislike the thick crema.
@@craftcoffeespot that’s the thing though it’s not crema it’s foam from how those machines brew the coffee
