      Hello, thank you so much for your comment and interest. First, I have no idea what the indigenous people did/do to worship Coatlicue. If anyone out there on the internet does know, please feel free to comment. To the best of my knowledge, the Catholic Church was primarily opposed to idolatrous worship outside of the newly established Catholic faith in Mexico. Their main issue was not so much with the ritual itself, but rather with the goddess Coatlicue being worshipped at all. I first found out that Coatlicue was still being worshipped at the Museum of Anthropology and Museum of Templo Mayor both in Mexico City. INAH has a lot of information that you can check out if you're not able to head to Mexico. www.inah.gob.mx/ And the main source I found for the Spanish Bishop of México Benito María Moxó y Francolí's quote is from Francisco Javier Clavigero's History of Mexico. I hope that helps!

    I will make this correction about the Spanish Padres , Facing the altar was due to the fact that the Mass was celebrated facing the altar because THAT is were the BLESSED SACRAMENT IS AT , the Mass is celebrated in this way because the celebration is due ONLY TO GOD and not the people who attend Mass The Catolic Latin Mass is and has ALWAYS been celebrated this way .Even now as I have attended this very Mass for well over 20 years . And WHY wouldn't they not let the Indigenous people in the church ??! if the Spanish Padres FOR THAT VERY purpose traveled to Mexico TO EVANGELIZE the people there ! Wouldn t that defeat their purpose ? 🤔

    • @mestizo1521
      @mestizo1521 Před 3 měsíci

      Hey, thank you for your comment. I think we're going to have to agree to disagree on how Mass is celebrated. I've also gone to Mass for the last 30+ years and don't remember the priest just facing the altar. And secondly, as mentioned in the video, indigenous people had to stay outside to listen to mass. This wasn't limited to the church of Acolman and capilla abiertas or “open chapels" can be found throughout Mexico. This concept allowed holding Mass for a large number of people and was similar to the teocallis or sacred precincts of pre-Hispanic temples.

    • @starbuono-ev3md
      @starbuono-ev3md Před 3 měsíci

      Hi . The reason why you have not seen a priest facing his back to the congregation in your church , is because you have never attended a Traditional Catholic Latin Mass . What you attend are" New Order " Masses that began with all the changes brought on by Vatican 2 back in the year 1962 . Where the priest now FACES the people and says the Mass entirely in your language . The New Order Mass is what is now normally found in all the Catholic churches today all over the world. While The Latin Mass even though still celebrated ,is not so easily found .👋

      @@starbuono-ev3mdThe Catholic Church never intended to improve the lives of people in the Americas. They came for power and took it through violence and oppression. That's not exclusive to the Americas either. That's why they do what they do. Open Mass or not facing the people, then changing their policy. POWER. That is their endgame.

    • @mestizo1521

      @@starbuono-ev3md Cool. Nice little tid bit of trivia that I'd forgotten from my Religion 101 class on Vatican II. Although I didn't realize the priest didn't face the congregation in addition to speaking a dead language that certainly no one in Mesoamerica understood prior to the arrival of the Spanish. (It's starting to make more sense why the Friars had such hard time getting the indigenous population to actually wholeheartedly convert. 😅) We have an upcoming video on the Spanish Inquisition in Mexico that you may or may not like. 🙈

    • @mundotsiri
      @mundotsiri Před 3 měsíci

      @@starbuono-ev3md The Catholic Church has only one goal throughout its history and that is Power. And it's not particular to their track record in the Americas. Their reason for facing the altar in a language that no one actually knows how it was pronounced: Power. Deciding to have "open mass": Power. Why they ultimately decided to face churchgoers... Same. Through violence and oppression, they have done what it takes to increase their dominion. To believe it's for the betterment of humanity (or mainly spiritual reasons) is naive.

    I'll be honest. I want to like your channel but I have a pet peeve I can't get over: Why say "madrecita" instead of "dear mother" or something like that? Can't such an idea be expressed in English? And you do that with many other things, constantly using the spanish word as if the english word didn't exists This makes me feel as if these concepts were "untranslatable", like they can't be expressed or understood except in spanish, which is absurd because they come from Nahuatl, and ironically it's easier to translate between English and Spanish because they are both indoeuropean languages, while Nahuatl belongs to a different language family

      Thanks for your well-thought out comment and I understand your pet peeve, but I proudly speak Spanglish. And will continue to do so. Correct, it is easy to translate between English and Spanish, but la Virgen is la Madrecita is not dear mother to me. Adhering to strict language rules would have resulted in Mexicans speaking Castellano, which they don't. Nahuatl was infused into Spanish and Mexicans use a lot of words that the Spanish don't, e.g. zacate, chapulin, mole, etc. Moreover, my target audience for this channel are Mexican-Americans who want to learn more about Mexican culture and most understand a word of Spanish here and there. Edited to add a missing is.
