Welcome to a selection of jingles as used on PREMIER FM 94.9 during their first temporary license in 2004.
These jingles feature the voice of Darragh O'Dea.
The station began as a pirate radio station in the early 1980's - broadcasting to Dublin and playing the best oldies. The slogan is 'Memories and More'
Premier FM is unique, in that it made the transition from pirate to legal and has always kept the mantra 'Memories and More'
When they were granted that temporary license in 2004, they had the choice to broadcast for 30 full days, or to spread the broadcasts out. So they opted for 14 weekends - Friday night through to Sunday night - from September 18th through to December 19th 2004
The presenters that opening day included; Greg Townsend, Denis Wilson, David Baker, Garvin Rigby, Vincent Hughes and Mike Williams
The studio was located in a room in the Russell Court Hotel, Harcourt Street, in Dublin's City Centre.
I was invited to join the line-up of the station and happily agreed! The first of my 14 shows was on Sunday 19th September 2004. As well as the usual oldies, my show featured the Top 20 Singles from a chosen year.
Derek Jones very kindly provided the charts for each week; news on the half hour was read by Avril Keogh - who later went on to do a feature on my show called 'Avril's Cheesy Choons'
The last day of broadcasting was Sunday December 19th 2004 -
All the staff say their goodbyes in the final two hours of PREMIER FM 94.9
Each presenter got to play their favourite track, before the clock eventually ticks down to Midnight and Greg Townsend signs off for the last time.
PREMIER FM did return again for its second temporary license on 21st January 2006, again for 15 weekends
The third and final outing was from 31st March 2007 - also for 15 weekends.
Interestingly enough, PREMIER was the first licensed 'multi-city' service - covering Dublin, Cork, Galway and Limerick
The web stream continued until late 2009, when it was rebranded All Gold Radio.
PREMIER FM was a great radio station, with great people and it was my pleasure to have been involved.
PREMIER FM may return? Who knows!
