@@jameswise3971 Yeah, it sucks that 22’s beautiful horn was swapped out but at least 22 didn’t get a bad horn

I knew there had to be at least a couple railfans on the other side but I had no way of knowing who was who. I was mainly down there for Amtrak 91 in a successful attempt to catch 164 leading a train going south but I not only managed to snag that CSX special and 91, but also 4 other Amtraks. (P.S. You probably saw me walk across the tracks not knowing that it was actually me 🤣)

Yeah! What happened here leading up to this unusual sighting all started last night when P42DC 190 experienced mechanical problems while leading Northeast Regional 99 and apparently they decided to have one of the Dash 8 locomotives from the Lorton Auto Train Station lead 99 the rest of the way to Newport News. Normally 174 passes through here much earlier in the morning but 99 didn’t get into Newport News last night until like 2:45 am

The whole expansion is still under construction but they have a small section of a new platform in use on track 3 (which is the main track opposite from where I’m standing)

Oh I hope you catch 79! I was at Quantico instead of my usual spot to say bye to my cousin from Raleigh and her boyfriend (who can be seen running across the tracks as the video starts) as they are headed home on 79 after a fun weekend with them visiting us

He sure does! You have no idea how shocked I was when I saw him blitz through my neighborhood while shooting this video especially since he had a Raised Letter K5LA previously and as mentioned in the other video, I thought he was some random P42 with the same horn 🤣

Just to clear things up, the engineer was quilling the horn there for the most part, and only a tiny full blast was heard toward the end

You also can’t deny the fact that Phase VII looks AMAZING on a P42 😁

Funny enough, I thought I was hearing 130 (the locomotive on 79 today btw) for a couple seconds

I should also mention that 199’s horn was also replaced recently and therefore I believe that 835 now has 199’s old stellar K5LA. As I replay the video over and over again, I can definitely hear 199’s old horn in there

I guess we never truly know since we weren’t there when Amtrak put the horn on lol. It’s all speculation @@Rohrbach17

Although the P42 with the most insane K5LA I’ve ever heard would be Phase VI Heritage Unit 108 which doesn’t take many trips to DC area but has been through my area quite a few times not to mention that I’ve got a few videos of him already. LOL I’m aware of that! I don’t shoot at Cary very often but I will whenever I’m in the area as I have relatives in Raleigh/Cary not to mention that Amtrak has been my way of traveling down there every time I’ve gone down to visit them. Funny enough, this video marks the second time I’ve ridden behind P42DC 129 going home on 80

I’m glad you caught him as well! In all honesty, I can’t believe that 108 has been sticking around DC for almost a whole month, he’s been an Albany/Northeast based Amtrak locomotive since he entered service many years ago and whenever he would make trips down here to DC, would only stick around for a few days and then go back north to Boston/New Haven. This brings it to a whole new level and sets a new record. I just can’t explain how shocked I was when I saw him trailing on 97 via the Ashland VRF cam almost 2 weeks ago
