This is extreme metal. Past the most regular examples of metal. It takes somewhat a mature ear used to these kinds of sounds and tricks. But that's not to say anyone outside the genres of metal that go really heavy. To me they just want to push fast but, creating grooves. In my opinion, they have better tracks. However I'll say again, kinda requires an advanced ear.

Comparing Tool's lyrics to Rage, is like comparing a Middle School linebacker to An NFL linebacker. I love Rage, but lyrically, they are not even in the same strosphere. Tool's lyrics are deep, interpretive, and interspective and on a whole other galactic level.

I'm a pretty big Tool fan, but I don't mind your generalization as I also find many of the most vocal fans to be insufferable. I really identified with your description of the band's ability to paint immersive musical landscapes that feel almost cinematic - that's how I try and describe it to my gf but she just thinks I'm a weirdo or something. I also agree that Maynard comes across as pretentious, but it doesn't lessen my appreciation for any of his music. I know it seems pretentious, but I enjoy how ambiguous much of what he says is, not because I'm a hipster (maybe I am, IDK), but because you really can mold his lyrics to mean almost anything you need them to. Schism, for example, might mean something entirely different to me than it does to the next listener. I don't really care all that much about what the "intended" meaning is. Anyways, honesty from you guys is always appreciated. Take care.

Lateralus is one of those songs where you almost do it an injustice by pausing it. You need to understand, like the Fibonacci sequence it is built on, the songs builds on itself, and you never get the full story if you pause it. I would love to see what they think if they played it through uninterrupted.

Fk yea as yosupsc2 said, for sure Opeth - Deliverance for a growling song. Actually tbh Deliverance is one of those songs I dont care if you hate like literally despise gutteral vocals in any song ever, you will actually dig that song I let plenty of people when I was younger and had that album listen to that song and it happened to be I would always pick the people that I seen only listened to pop, rap, or just really any other genre other than any Genre/sub-genre of metal and id say putting a percentage of how many liked it once listened to it around 98.2, which in a vast array of many multiple types of people is a super super high rate.

I really appreciate the spread of this band and the time and opportunity to listen to it. The comments on the video visually and its concept seemed very accurate to me. but as a reaction, as the title says, Musicians seems very poor to me, not because of whether they like it or not, but because they are musicians, their perspective and comments could be more about music, technique, execution, arrangements, composition...

I appreciate that y'all listened without paying much attention to the video. Videos detract too much from the listening experience.
