The greatest thing about Gentle Giant is that, for all their complexity, avant garden approach, madcap orchestrations and technical intricacy, they could REALLY rock. A lot of prog bands were all brains, no balls, as it were, but these guys had absolutely everything going for them. A truly fantastic, transcendent band.

Can you imagine the sound check? "OK, give me the Xylophone... No, the other Xylophone... No, no, not that one either, I mean the other one, next to the timbales!"

Gentle Giant is utterly amazing. I imagine the prog gods of the time being the first ones in line for the next GG album, and were probably their biggest fans. They are just on a whole different level, and they played with such joy.
