Feeding Pets a Vegan or Vegetarian Diet
Today I want to talk about a dangerous practice that seems to be growing in popularity: feeding dogs and cats a vegan or vegetarian diet.
Increasingly, people who are vegetarians or vegans feel compelled to push their dietary choices onto their dogs and cats for a variety of reasons.
Dogs are scavenging, or facultative carnivores; cats are obligate carnivores. Their bodies from nose to tail are designed to thrive on a meat-based diet, not a plant-based diet.
Dogs and cats have the teeth, jaws, stomachs, and palates of carnivores.

Dr. Becker Discusses What to Look for in a Curcumin Supplement
zhlédnutí 122Před 2 měsíci
Nutraceutical ingredients, including the four I’m about to discuss, are appearing more often these days on pet food labels. Now, I’m all for high-quality supplements for dogs and cats who can benefit from them, but there are an increasing number of ultra-processed pet foods and treats on the market that claim to contain popular supplements baked right into the mix. Nutraceuticals and other type...
Dr. Becker: What Is Chocolate Toxicosis?
zhlédnutí 104Před 2 měsíci
Chocolate is made from the roasted seeds of the Theobroma cacao or cocoa tree. The seeds have certain properties that can be toxic for dogs and cats, including caffeine and theobromine, which are naturally occurring stimulants. Both theobromine and caffeine stimulate the central nervous system and heart muscle. They also relax smooth muscles, especially the bronchial muscles, and increase produ...
Dr. Becker Discusses Important Diagnostic Tests for Your Pet
zhlédnutí 188Před 2 měsíci
Although your veterinarian can learn a great deal by performing a hands-on physical examination of your pet, there are some very important aspects of his or her health that can only be evaluated with diagnostic tests. Many pet parents believe that if their dog or cat is eating well and looks healthy, there’s no need to check what’s happening on the inside. Just like humans, pets should have at ...

My Top 4 Pet Diet Recommendations
zhlédnutí 222Před 2 měsíci
Have you ever had a conversation with your veterinarian about your pet's diet? If you take your dog or cat to a conventional veterinary practice, the answer may well be "no." If you've never heard a peep from your vet about nutrition, you may be wondering why. The fact is, many traditional vets absolutely loathe talking about nutrition with pet parents. The veterinary industry is trying to enco...
Dr. Becker Discusses Patellar Luxation
zhlédnutí 138Před 2 měsíci
Patellar luxation, also called luxating patella and floating kneecap, is most often seen in small and tiny dogs. The condition can sneak up on pet parents, because often dogs with a floating kneecap seem fine, with no history of injury, limping or pain. They're very active, running and playing normally. There are four levels of severity of a luxating patella. Grade 1 is the mildest, and Grade 4...

In dogs, mast cell tumors are most often found on the trunk, the limbs and between the toes; prognosis depends...

I took my dog to the vet last year for excessive drinking, panting and odd behaviour and they did blood work and said she was fine. Over the course of the year, the symptoms definitely got worse. She began to constantly drink, pace back and fourth at night, pant like crazy and was soooo hungry that she started trying to eat objects that are not food. It became so bad that she was disturbing my sleep with her panting and pacing that I had to keep her separated at night. I decided to do my own research online and came across the information at the University of Tennessee and decided I would try treating her with melatonin and flax hull lignans for a few weeks before visiting the vet to see there was any improvement. I was afraid that the would immediately put her on pharmaceutical drugs with lots of side effects. Well, I am really glad that I trusted my instinct because within the first week I saw dramatic improvements and now about 3 weeks later she no longer as ANY symptoms. It worked like a CHARM.

I have been following Dr. Becker for nearly 15 years. I have changed my dog's diet and have followed her advice on supplements, food and many more. As you see she has barks and whiskers logo. She formulated many products for dogs and cats. My Great Dane lived for 15 years 8 months and 21 days as the result. However she no longer is affiliated with them. If any one needs products that meet all three issues she talks about, I recommend "adored beasts " products. I am surprised of how so very few people have the curiosity to watch these type of videos to improve their pets/ children's well being!

I say said the video was good, but she was saying so many words that I would have had to go get a dictionary. She wasn't explaining the words, at least too people and there Search about this topic, She's sad with animals that can produce. How is that possible if all the animals in the world can produce, unless a human decides to take their balls? Pull their stuff out so you can explain it even more. In some parts, she was repeating herself other than that

I checked my dog shampoo and the ingredients are: coconut shampoo base, aloe vera gel, essence of rosemary & mint, chamomile extract, sage extract, nettle extract, rosemary extract, wheat protein extract (natural deodorizing agent), Tee tree oil, vitamin E &C. Not organic but made in the USA. It's called Buddy wash, shampoo and conditioner. Once I am finished using it, I will look for another brand that's organic and has more of the ingredients she mentioned. I will also be washing my dog more.

Thank you for these videos, Dr. Becker. I've learned so much from you over the last 7 years since I started reading your articles and watching your videos ❤ I strongly believe that you helped me make the golden years of my precious dog's life a lot better, healthier and happier. As for kitty chin acne, I used chlorhexidine wipes (2% chlorhexidine and 1% ketoconazole) with great success. I actually bought them to topically treat ringworms (in addition to medicated shampoo), and it worked great for that as well. My kitty was 6 months old at that time, so I didn't want to use anything harsh. The skin on his chin wasn't infected so it only took 3-4 applications to get rid of acne. I also changed his bowl from plastic to ceramic. I still keep the wipes just in case, but had no need to use them since then.

So much non-science here. First of all, a good distiller is vented so that when the water is heated, the VOCs with boiling point lower than water can vaporize and be vented out. And anything with higher boiling point than water stays in the boiling tank. And what science exists that shows that water has the power to leach minerals from a body? What is the mechanism? We get our minerals from the foods we eat. Water is not a reliable source of dietary minerals in the first place and as you pointed out, most people are getting water from the tap by municipal systems. First you say they are contaminated and then you want to rely on those contaminated sources for you intake of minerals? Your bones and cells are not sitting in a vat of distilled water when you drink it. It goes into your stomach, sometimes with food, and is taken into your body through a complex absorbtion process. So what is this mineral leaching mechanism? Not to mention, if you really think your main source of dietary minerals is your water, or are afraid that water without minerals has this miraculous leaching ability, then you can purchase mineral drops made just for the purpose of remineralizing, low mineral water. Also the whole house filters you described are not efficient at providing chemical and toxin free drinking water. They will remove chlorine, rust, particles etc so you have relatively clean sink and shower water, free of chlorine, but are not designed to provide high quality drinking water. So given that perfection is not possible, your best two options are a watrt distiller with vented fractional distillation, for the purest water, but it uses a lot of electricity, is slow, so it requires a big tank, and requires tank draining if the system is not equipped with autoflush. Also distillers create a lot of heat when they run so that is good in the winter but can be annoying in the summer unless the unit is outdoors or in you basement or utility room. Also the equipment is relatively expensive. Number two is reverse osmosis which gives you high quality drinking water on tap through a tank with a faucet installed at your sink. The waste water is relatively insignificant considering you are only treating the water you drink and cook with. We use hundreds of times that amount for everything else so if you drink 2 gallons a day and and the system wastes 6 gallons, big deal. That day you used 50 to 100 for showering, washing clothes etc. so the waste is insignificant and not an issue with regard to limited resources. Think about the money and resources and energy wasted on the current trend of bottling and shipping drinking water. For people in apts who cant install ro under the sink, for about $400 you can get a countertop ro unit that will provide you with top quality pure drinking water at a reasonalbe price and it goes with you when you move. Just put in the words countertop ro into google or amazon and you will find them.
