Newport Medieval Ship, The ship's final voyage.
The Newport Medieval Ship is a fifteenth century merchant vessel unearthed in the heart of Newport in 2002.
The ship was a formidable three-masted craft measuring over 30 metres in length and capable of carrying around 200 tons of cargo. The ship probably sailed the Lisbon-Bristol trade route.
It was brought to Newport for repairs or refit in about 1469. It is thought that, whilst in Newport, the cradle supporting the ship collapsed. The hull was flooded and the majority of the ship was then taken apart, leaving only the lower hull that we have today.

Old Lamb Row in Chester. It was located at the crossroads at the top of Lower Bridge Street before it collapsed in 1821. This has been on my "to do" list for many years. I wanted to produce a focused model of the building to try and work out how the drawings of the interior (according to the etchings of 18th century artist George Cuitt). would work inside the structure. I still have a few of the bullets and spent cartridge cases that we dug out of the sand dune behind the bungalow we spent our summer holidays in in the 1950s and early 60s. Some pill boxes were still standing on the beach then. It was a magic place.

    This great hall actually looks alot smaller then the great hall which was depicted in Harry Potter however historically castles building and the rooms in them do not really have as large dimensions which are typically shown in movies and fiction in medieval times alot of the areas of a castle were typically pretty narrow and were designed to prevent large amounts of people from being able to move through it that fast all at once.Castle as opposed to palaces we're military structures and were not meant for luxury or person comfort and this is something which would have influenced the build and structure of a castle.

    • @DextraVisual
      @DextraVisual Před 10 měsíci

      Castles were often palaces in their own right and were often very opulent. I actually downplayed the level of luxury you could expect in early tudor living quarters and there are many halls much larger than this. I live near several castles with huge great halls. In terms of luxury Eltham is a good example. www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/eltham-palace-and-gardens/history/
