Transmission Timelapse Red Truck Pt.18
This Truck continues to fight us every chance it gets. Builds almost never go smoothly you just have to keep on keeping on and continue to problem solve. This video isn't the most exciting but we want to continue to show you guys all of the problems that we run into and that its not just magic and you just slap it together.... We ended up getting the transmission bolted on but the engine wouldn't spin over. we concluded that the torque converter wasn't seated all the way when we went to install the trans, so we got some longer bolts to keep it lined up. Pulled the transmission away from the engine where the torque converter could spin and now will fully seat the converter and bolt everything back on. Fingers crossed that this gets it done I'm ready for this thing to be running!!!

See if you can get something from stage 8 locking fasteners to fix your problem with the bolt backing out
You failed to mention valve lash adjustment .. a newbie attempting this maybe not know . No bashing your video just thought it might be more helpful information
Guys a noobie
Couldn't you change the pushrod length?
I need that tool!
The press in studs are 3/8", which is a hair smaller than 10mm. The 8mm bolts will push in with no problem, so that can not be done. Looks like a custom stud from say ARP with the 7/16" UNC in the head, and 8mm for the rocker with a nut. Probably need the studs without guide plates and the nut on the stud. Otherwise, the pedestal needs to be milled farther down so the rocker and guide can sit on the stud nuts.
Can you give me links for what to buy?
I would try to get the best valve stem seal for the heads. Also the valve cover gaskets can be glued to the valve cover, cork or silicone. This prevents oil from getting in between the gasket and cover.
Do you think This mod would work on 95 ish lt1 heads
I personally love this engine it is a Work 🐎 I have one in a Case 1840 on a farm. Good job on the truck, my friend.
Do I just need the motor to tdc or tdc each piston as I go
Way late answer, but you just gotta set it so the valves are seated. Somewhere along the compression stroke would be perfect.
Custom pushrods, or stock?
I love machinery but no matter what I get I always want something better. I would of got one but i hate china so I got a used logan model 1922. Going to buy a sureline soon super small but works good.
Two things that stood out. Left the key the chuck and what a mess with all the chips. That punch is not a punch and even hardened! Build some shelfs and organise your shop. I would not leave my car in your care at all. Every 3pm on Friday afternoon you clean your shop and organise tools is what I would do.
if you cleaned the chips up EACH time she will last longer, BOLT it down and level it just might be shocked at the results.
what measurement would you cut the pedestals down to? gonna go this direction on a 305 sbc to get more modern valve train on that older motor.
I love seeing young kids like you guys working on motors. Keep up the good work.
yes sir will do! I feel bad for not posting as long as we have but sometimes thats just life and you have to take a hold on things. we will for sure be back to posting like we were very soon!
Use a sun filter or close the garage doors, by the way the useful bits are nice if you slow down and explain what you're doing
Noted!
Pretty awesome
You would have plenty of room if you organized that place.
Great Video. My land cruiser is getting a 4bt soon with a 4l80e
thats sick man!
My head gaskets good but Was thinking of swapping heads on my s10 cause I found a spark plug with no nut and a ton of sealant around it -.-
On pedestal style engines you shim the pedestal.
I didn't know that, that makes this a lot better so the pushrod lengths can all be the same. Now it means a lot more to me. Are the shims easily avalable?
This is exactly what i wanted to know.... Excellent information ( considering i have several of this style 4.3 engine available for scavenging....) wonder how close the 4.3 pushrods are to the right length. 4.3 rocker?
You said it at the end .... It is the 2000+ 4.3 that have the trunnion rockers
If it works ....should i replace the springs for stiffer ones or stock replacements! Appreciate your content!!!! Thanks in advance!!!!
Stock springs should work as long as the cam is stock the rockers don't have much of weight difference so spring selection shouldn't change. sorry for the late reply life has been busy.
Assuming....it has a non adjustable valve train!!!
Interesting!!!! im going to try sum 3.4 rockers on a 2001 4.3 Silverado.....!!! It should work right????
Those rockers are $11 or $12 each from Rockauto, so this only works if you have a handy recycling yard.
Why bother, too much tom foolery for the small gain ?
Maybe 7..16 by 14 ..not 20 ?
Have you tried checking ls rockers with lash caps
No way to adjust them!
What kind of valve seals are those?
they are called PC seals nothing special
Hey… you wouldn’t by chance have a video of you straightening the threads on the inserts. Having issues starting them in the die set.
we dont at the moment but we could make one as a short or something to help. will try to make one by the end of the week
in regards to using LS rockers sketch because of geomeetry.... would installing lash caps help? it makes diameter of stem larger obviously could they help relieve this issue?
Most likely not entirely I would bet it would help but not much also as another person pointed out even though a ls rocker is 1.7 to 1 because of the geometry of the sbc head you wouldn't get the full 1.7 to 1 ratio without moving the rocker mounting holes back which if you are going to that much trouble then I would say buy roller rockers meant for a sbc the machine work would be too expensive
Even if (stock) valve guide life is reduced to say 50,000mi, that'd still be alright. I bet this will work without a hitch. Dig up some 2.2 roller tip rockers and valve guide life becomes a non issue.
Fantastic Upgrade Info! Thank You Brother!
You bet!

I think your meth is wrong

Very nice bro
thank you man!
Really shouldn't be using 15 degree head rockers on a 23 degree head.
doh
You don't think the rocker will slip off the valve left or right since the pedistools are not all attached to each other after cutting them, the only holding them from spinning is one bolt. I think that's what rocker stands are usually one piece
I would weld them back together after cutting
I think you leave them in pairs
@@jeffreyMagnum460 yep a pair has both stud bolts holding them in and down.
This is my kind of engineering! I love doing stuff like this. Those aluminum heads look familiar. What are they?
They are DNA motor cylinder heads in other words ebay heads but I put in Elgin valves and comp springs in them
2024 just started and this guy is gonna win the worst idea of the year award. Just buy some roller rockers people that are actually intended for your application.
send the 450 dollars and I'll gladly buy them otherwise I like my option
@@BasicMaintenance2 450?????? Dude did the internet reach your village yet? Jegs - summit - Amazon - speedway ever hear of those places? 150 will get you a set of 16 full roller rockers. Howard cams sells a set of 8 for 90 so that's 180.
@@BasicMaintenance2 And your options are bad. For your own good don't do what your doing. Your going backwards most performance builds will convert none adjustable rockers to adjustable not the other way around. You'd be better off drilling the hole bigger in those rockers your trying to use if that's possible and forget all that other nonsense.
@@BasicMaintenance2 I do to. mostly for the valve train stability.
I see you're using my patented duct tape band-aid. Fun video, keep up the good work.
duct tape fixes all. we for sure will keep it up. changing things up a little bit this saturday
This is cool, if I ever build an SBC I'm going to try this out!
That's very creative
Jesel or Crower are cheap…. Why not just go with them?
why would you bother they still need trunnion upgrade why not just get roller rockers
Don't see the point but I love it make it work!
This is all wrong, the amount of movement on the valve tip will kill guides quick, LS and sbc rocker pivot lengths are significantly different, don’t cheap out; buy quality roller rockers otherwise you’re just kicking the can further down the road
we will see and let you know
@@BasicMaintenance2 see how many miles you get out the engine before the guides are completely rooted
@@circlejerk6861 you are aware that these arent Ls rockers right. Just Ls style but they are out of a 2.2 4cyl chevy you are right ls rockers wont work as we explained in the video.
Glad someone understands this. Some love doing things over and paying for it a couple times. Pass lol
@@BasicMaintenance2 a lot of folks only hear about every third word in a explanato ion. Thats why some people go over the same thing maybe two different ways. That the new gen folks mainly.
