Suki Seokyeong Kang's recent work draws from her study of the "true-view" landscape theory of traditional Korean painting. The steel sculpture series Mountain and monumental Mat Black Mat are brought together to reflect the artist's perspective on landscape rendering, activating the potential of the space they inhabit to bring different temporal modalities together.
On view for the first time in New York, the artist's painting series of Mora and Jeong paintings utilize traditional materials like handmade paper and hwamunseok-reed mats used in traditional Korean court dances-to contemplate the formal boundaries of painting.
