I also spoke to another Ranger yesterday and asked him the same question and he stated I could go just 1/2 a mile to set up camp after the 14 days if I were moving to a different National Forest. I'm still trying to figure out where do you go in that 2 day period between the 14 day on and 16 day off before you legally can return.....good question??? Maybe you can find a truck stop or rest area or Walmart, etc. for those 2 days ? Eagle Eric

He showed up again at the adjacent National Forest and I asked him about his 20-25 mile RULE point blank and he changed his tune and this time stated there was no such rule at either the Coconino or Kaibab National Forest.....I guess you have to make complaints to the higher ups to straighten out some Rangers ! I don't mean this in a bad way, but I think that people need good information. At least a couple of the National Forest System rules that you stated are incorrect. They may be the rules of Coconino at the time that you are there, but these rules vary from forest to forest and over time. There is no blanket set of rules for the NF System. For instance, I noticed that most of the National Forests in California (at least in the desert and in the Sierras Nevada's) require you to pack out all human waste. Some forests require you to remove TP. There is actually variation of the rules from district to district and area to area. Congressionally mandated Wilderness Areas always have unique rules. As far as dispersed camping goes, some forests require you to leave the entire forest after 14 days. Some forests require you to move a certain distance which I've seen vary from 1/4 mile to 25 miles. It is always the best practice to review the rules of particular, forests, and areas, immediately prior to entering the forest, on the official US Forestry Service (USDA) website. Additionally, these websites will give you current information on closures of roads, trails, and campgrounds. If possible, these rules should be checked even during your stay (for your safety), because sometimes forest fire conditions become so extreme that an entire forest is closed, and if this happens, it's best to know and to move on.

Quartzsite is just a big overcrowded dusty parking lot in the middle of a very ugly desert where you have 2 types of travelers ... the largest group of them are older RVer's who don't want to do much traveling for the winter so they get the La Posa yearly LTVA permit and hang out and mostly get drunk with each other and talk about how pretty this dump is ...the rest are the idiots who listen to Bob and people on CZcams who think wrongly this is a fun place to camp .... I suppose if your idea of a good time is being in an extremely crowded area for full of bad drivers and morons or need some silly 'Tribe to hang out with then you'll like Quartzsite ... but if you're one of us people who are independent and don't need tribes or Bob Wells to hold your hand just drive the measly 90 miles from quartzsite to the Yuma LTVA you'll find it's much nicer , lots of normal non crazy rv types and you have easy access to great shopping in Yuma ...

Nowadays me and my wife live in a 24 foot Travel trailer which we tow with our Heavy Half Ton Ford Cargo van ... and even though our trailer is older we have Zero problems getting into most Campgrounds and Trailer Parks when we want to ...try doing that in a van ,bus or cargo trailer and you'll find a large number of places that will turn you away ...and you could say the hell with those places you'll go somewhere else ...which is fine until you're in a situation where you actually need to stay in that area for some time and can't ... and by the way this is one of the things I can't stand about Bob Wells ...he never tells all those kids and older ladies what it really means to live in a van .... were in Quartzsite AZ ... and all you need to do to see what's its like for old and young people to live squished into a van as the summer approaches is go to the library here .... where you'll see the parking lot full of vans and their occupants spending the majority of the day in the air conditioned library ....

    This lake is part of the Colorado river so swimming is allowed here as well as at Senator Wash reservior. ATV's are allowed on any dirt roads but your not allowed to drive them off the established roads. Temps don't get down below 90 until around Oct.-Nov. and stay below 90 until April 1st..... After your 2 week stay you can go camp at another National Forest for 2 weeks. Sometimes they can be adjacent to each other so you might only have a 5-10 minute drive to get to your new campsite. I believe ALL National Forests in AZ are now closed due to the record temps and no rain and forest fires breaking out all over. I'm heading for NM to stay at the State Parks ......$225. for a permit to camp at any of their 33 parks for a whole year. I did videos about at least half of them......see my "Playlist" on my CZcams channel then click "NM camping". Eric

    I have to ask: the FS regs say 14 days in a 30 day period, if I've got it right. Should I plan to stay 2 nights a month at cracker barrel or something?

    Lot of nuances here. Thanks. Re: - NF dispersed camping strategy - high altitude acclamation - bathroom strategy - (pine chips for the bucket?) - solar: roof top and fold up. - wind breaks (that's a new accessory) - DIY Berkey set-up: (Little House On The Road has several videos on using the Berkey in dispersed camping.) Looks great. Could make separate videos expanding on several of these items. Your videos should be watched by all aspiring nomads. Thanks for making.

Spanish history in the southwest is an interesting change from "the usual cowboys and indians". Thanks for the update.

    Your video about LTVAs got 4000 views and counting. Sorry you thought it necessary to turn the comments off. If I'm in any way typical of a Bob Wells armchair RVer, I would have liked to have seen the comments discussion there. That said, the $64,000 question for "future houseless people" looking at LTVAs is: what do you do in summer? Wouldn't it be great if there were a summer LTVA? (e.g. there's what looks like a perfect spot north of Flagstaff near Arizona Snow Bowl - 8000 ft., reasonably flat.) Meanwhile, as an experienced LTVAer, what do you do during summer? Winters are all set with the existing LTVAs, but I end up spending a lot of time trying to figure out an LTVA equivalent for summer. Would be great if you could share your knowledge and experience about. .

      Look into summer camping in the Coconino National Forest near Flagstaff during the summer months. It's like BLM lands....2 weeks for free then move to the Kaibab National Forest for 2 weeks (its adjacent to Coconino so a mile drive to set up a new camp). You can go back and forth between the two during the summer months which is typically in the 70's- 80's. And if you like exploring, take a 90 minute drive and camp in Kaibab National Forest adjacent to the Grand Canyon National Park,,,,,,,,,see my 4 part video series on free camping at the Grand Canyon when everyone else is paying $350-$400. a week !!! @@eagleeric1613 Thank you Eagle Eric! But isn't there a rule that says the next boondock has to be 25 miles away from the previous campsite? Also, "Bob" and others have complained about the heat in the hottest months around Flagstaff. Evidently it's not a problem for you. Anything else we summer newbies need to know about summer?

    • @eagleeric1613
      @eagleeric1613 Před 3 lety

      @@hg2. .....the 25 mile rule is for BLM camping, not National Forest camping. The National Forest rule is you can stay for 2 weeks in any given month then you must leave that Nat. Forest but you are allowed to go to another National Forest to camp for 2 weeks even if its only a mile away or adjacent. Around Flagstaff you have 2 National Forest areas....Coconino and Kaibab so you can jump back & forth. Flagstaff rarely gets above the 80's since it's elevation is 7,500. feet. Hope that helped- Eagle Eric

      @@eagleeric1613 Awesome! Yes, that's the ticket! I didn't know that nuance about BLM vs. National Forest. [Not to push my luck or be greedy, but it would be nice to have a summer LTVA. Is the area around Arizona Snow Bowl good ("perfect") for that or am I missing something? (8000', relatively flat).] Also, good things get messed up up lazy people who take advantage. I hear a lot about "close downs" - not sure if it's BLM, FS, or both. Any thoughts on contingency plans for that? Great info; great channel. Thanks again.

      @@hg2. rt180 from Flagstaff is all National Forest and nice summer camping.....there are numerous Forest roads off rt.180. The Snow bowl is a nice 6 mile drive to the resort which is closed now (June) but they still left on their WIFI so I can get online to upload CZcams videos. There are (as of May 15th) fire restrictions in almost all of the National Forest areas in AZ........no camp fires allowed and no charcoal grills allowed BUT you can cook outdoors with a propane or liquid gas stove. Hope that helped- Eagle Eric
