    been driving my 2018 grand cherokee without the auxiliary battery for 3 years, 70,000 miles now with no noticeable issues. I'm glad it shut off the start/stop. I'll have to replace my main battery now but it's now 6-7 years old so that's normal.

    Also, while I would recommend deleting the aux battery entirely, I have replaced them from the bottom without removing the inner fender liner, or wheel or doing anything with the main battery or fuse box. This was a 2018 JLU Sahara

    These aux batteries are terrible, they are low quality and dont last long. However, has anyone else noticed that normal full size car batteries seem to have gotten worse lately? I used to remember car batteries lasting at least 4-5 years and now it seems like they last 2-3 years. And Ive experienced this on other vehicles besides jeeps.

    2023 Jeep grand Cherokee altitude my out of factory lasted 96 day it ended up taking out both battery’s just replace under warranty if not would have cost me 884

    My gladiator is a stick, when i would shift in 5th gear the autostart would screw up, no cruise control, no backup cam, and didnt show me which gear i was in. When i would shut it off everything was good again

    I hate the dual batteries. Lessons I have learned about 2020 Grand Cherokee. 1. If you get weird lean running errors, check your batteries 1st, the engine module is very sensitive to weak batteries and can cause lean bank calculation errors. 2. Always replace both batteries at same time if having problems with 1. They are NOT electrically isolated and a weak battery will draw down a good battery and also mask the actual issues. 3. The replacement Walmart battery is cheapest around and certainly has been better than the OEM main battery. Thoroughly annoyed at Jeep for a poor job of implementing start/stop just to meet cafe standards.

    Just pull the F 42 fuse and disconnect aux battery ground from main battery.

    So, is there a 36-month "free replacement" on both Jeep Gladiator batteries? Next month will be 36 months since my 2021 went "into service", and I anticipate free replacements if both have that type of warranty.

    Just remove it. You can disconnect it and the fuse and you don’t have to deal with auto start stop anymore. The accessories won’t need because.. you’re not using start stop.

    Just do a aux battery delete. You pull 1 fuse and disconnect negative cable from main battery that goes to the aux battery.

    Make sure your ground connection to your frame is tight and free of oxidation. Its right beside your battery.

    If you need a battery for any vechile Menards has ACdelco batteries. Cheaper than auto stores. Bought one for my Subaru there. Also have a 2021 wrangler JLU.

    Thanks for this video. I recently bought a used 2020 JL and noticed after I bought it, that it wasn’t using the stop/start when I was stopped. When I went to the stop/start gauge cluster, it keep saying “unavailable, battery is charging” so that told me there was some sort of battery issue. I’m outside of the warranty period but dang are batteries expensive. A non-mopar aux battery is between $120-$150 and a regular AGM battery is around $250. So to replace both, isn’t cheap. I just make sure when I get in, to turn off the s/s. I’m not sure if turning it off reduces any draw on the main battery. But at this point, it’s something that needs to be replaced sooner than later…

    Good info, my man! I’m learning more about auto start stop and the duel battery set up every day since my wife’s Compass started acting up. Some things I’ve learned: Aside from the fact that everyone hates auto start/stop, it’s still one of the stupidest things to put on a car. It over works the starter and the batteries, causing them to crap out before they should. Disable the Auto start stop by disconnecting the wiring clip located at the connection to the negative terminal clamp. (Yes, the “A!” Light will stay on but you don’t have to actively disable it.) The factory batteries are anemic. I recommend going to a shop that just does battery replacements if that’s possible. Like a “Battery Warehouse”, or “Batteries R Us”, or something. They’ll load test the batteries in front of you, and if batteries are required, they can replace them with better quality, heavier duty batteries. It might be advisable to replace both batteries at the same time. My main was spent and the aux was heading that direction. The stock batteries are 550 cca for the main and 200cca for the aux. I got a 650 cca Interstate for the main and a Deka 220 cca for the aux for $340, Installed. All is good now! Lol.

    If you ever get sick of the auxiliary battery. You can pull fuse 42 and disconnect the ground wire for the aux battery and your system doesn't even know it's there anymore but you also don't have auto stop start that is what I plan to do because I just realized I hit 36 months last month and my battery died funny how it happens. And you have to make sure that you secure, wrap in electrical tape, the ground wire for the aux battery so that it cannot contact any other metal. czcams.com/video/ermLRbt4PL8/video.htmlsi=PMag_8WiNqR4Aihu.

    Interesting that Jeep mounted that stupid battery low and right behind the fender well. You can't go through a puddle now without shorting it out. Makes me really think twice about a newer Jeep purchase.

    Have my Rubicon for 1 year and on my 2nd dead aux battery, even under warranty it's annoying to get a 3rd one.

    I removed mine. Ran the positive to the main battery and electrical taped the negative. Problem solved. I hate the Start /stop feature.

    We got two years out of ours. I just learned about the JL aux battery this week because it KILLED my jeep. The main battery had 13V but the starter would not engage to start the motor. What a scam!

    The start stop battery sucks mine died and when it did it killed my main battery cost me about 400 to get new ones then when it happen my jeep wouldn't even come out of 3rd gear

      Auxiliary switches won't work if you bypass the auxiliary battery. As you mentioned, that's a downfall.

    This was the dumbest engineering idea ever. Caused more problems than it did to improve gas mileage. Genesis makes a dual full-size battery kit that eliminates the auxiliary battery altogether. It has a smart switch pre-wired unit that connects both batteries. No more small auxiliary battery and both full-size batteries where you can easily access them.

    At least yours gave you some warning. I was on top of a mountain when i got the dreaded Auxiliary bat warning light, i had to make sure i made it down from the pass and then get it unhooked, pulled the fuse. After that, no issues, main has been running good in TX heat all summer, and NEVER adding that battery back in. I may add an extra battery back in the passenger compartment, but it will not be set up as the factory had the small one. Worst design ever....

    My camper will drain my aux bat if sitting more than a week cause aux for Jeeps runs the excessories and main battery runs the motor it's safety thing so chances of getting stranded in the middle of nowhere reduced by signs and signals are telling you something isn't right with the battery before you decide to take your jeep in the middle of know where. unfortunately stock batteries are cheap. You get what you pay for in batteries. Also have Electronic magnetic pulles shield wired to the main and a winch also have a smaller emp device on the aux. Don't Jerry rig it. The goal was overland off grid for months if necessary recommend lithium ion batteries the one's that look like a six pack of soda 7:21 also a jump start device from auto parts store is a way to avoid the dead battery stranding you. $80 can be a good invest. Aux doesn't die over night it's a progressive issue that will get worse if neglected this being the signs not to go off road or grid tell your ass gets maintenance.

    So I have had the same EXACT problems as he had. Paid 700 dollars at jeep to replace it the first time. Then about almost 2 years later it stopped working AGAIN!! I DECIDED (AS A WOMAN), TO not have Jeep replace the battery this time because it's totally absolutely ridiculous to charge 700 dollars for a new Mopar battery which sucks anyways. I had to remove both batteries because the Aux Battery fried my main battery which is just absurd. Owning the jeep trailhawk is a joke I will NEVER BUY ANOTHER JEEP EVER AGAIN. I CANNOT WAIT TO GET RID OF THE ONE I HAVE. JUST FYI!

    The $20.00 fee is usually called a "core charge". The 36-month warranty is probably prorated, meaning the further into the 36 months the battery lasts, the less value it has. the replacement under warranty will cost you something. I have a 2017 Grand Cherokee Limited with over 100,000 miles. Both batteries are original (knock on wood).

    Just bypass it and remove it entirely. It is pointless unless you are the one person in the world that likes auto start-stop. And it will ultimately drain you main battery in the future. I bypassed mine after it killed my main battery and I couldn’t even jump my JL. Aux switches still work, entertainment still works, everything but auto start-stop-which I killed with my Tazer JL anyway because it is TERRIBLE for my 3.0 diesel to start and stop. Luckily, on the 2020 eco diesels, this little box of sh*t is under the main battery, not the control box. So it was super easy for me to get to.

    Just replaced both batteries, originals from 2017, and less than 45,000 mi. The H6 main battery was $180 with a 4 yr warranty, that little AUX14 battery, $119.99 with only a one year warranty??, well that just sucks doesn’t it? BTW, be mindful of many AUX14 batteries not having a vent hose hole, and the inability to transfer the factory mounting posts to them, the batteries under the passenger seat on the Jeep Grand Cherokee should be vented to the outside of the vehicle.

      I was wondering the same thing. I being told that it has to be special battery under the seat. The one that leaks bad things less. But I still was advised by my trusted private mechanic to open windows to vent things.

    Most batteries for all vehicles now are 2 year batteries. If you get more than 2 years from a factory battery your lucky. Its a cost cutting measure by manufacturers. Buying an aftermarket battery you will get 3-5 years.

    I replaced my battery due to coming home and finding my Jeep dead. After i replaced it I got the service shifter warning light and now my Jeep won’t come out of park. And i have called dealers and no one has any ideas on how to fix it.

    I have a 2019 JLR stick shift, so I don’t know if this only pertains to the stick shift but anytime I start stop light comes on it disables my cruise control. I wouldn’t mind so much if it was only the start stop that disabled but I like my cruise control.

    It also powers the aux switch group, not only stop/start. You can also get a beeffier battery if you get aux switch from dealer, although I,m not sure how much better it is.
