Fotoplayer Fundraiser -- Enhance living history with NESFM!
Niles Film Museum has an incredible opportunity to bring a rare piece of film history to enhance our silent film viewing experience. Nate Otto is an artisan who restores vintage pieces of musical equipment. He spent several years restoring a Style 15 American Fotoplayer and we have the opportunity to bring this incredible instrument to our museum.
We need to raise $107,000 for the purchase and installation of the Fotoplayer. Learn more about the instrument and Nate. And, if you can, please donate to this effort to bring a piece of film history to one of the best silent film history museums and theaters in the world!
Because the museum is a 501(c)3 non-profit, donations are deductible on taxes to the extent allowed by law.

Such a good looking man all his life a n d beautiful voice
Don’t think I’ve seen a man as absolutely beautiful as Valentino except for perhaps Gary Cooper.
Such an interesting interview and Nance and Bobby shared some lovely memories. I was hoping they would touch on Johnny at the Cain Park Theater in Cleveland when he played the lead in "Brigadoon". I got to meet him afterward and got his autograph on the program. He was brilliant in the part to my 15 year old eyes. I've never forgotten it and would love to hear memories about it and see any pictures from Johnny in that play.
How Sweet Of Margaret Hamilton doing that!! God Bless Margaret Hamilton!! 🙏🙏
Cool
great
Fabulous
One of the most overlooked theatres in the Pacific Northwest, is the Mount Baker Theater in Bellingham, WA. Built in 1927, done in the Spanish Moorish style, it has been completely restored and is now only for live performances. From the Mount Baker Theater website: The construction of the Theatre itself was a monumental task, employing several different contractors and over 80 craftsmen experienced in stone masonry, carpentry, and plaster casting. The 130 x 250-foot theatre was outfitted to accommodate vaudeville stage productions on a 26 x 75-foot stage under a 42-foot proscenium arch. Dressing and practice rooms behind the stage were connected by a tunnel to the orchestra pit, and the best in counter-weight lighting systems were used to enhance the live performances. The auditorium also has a gigantic dome, in which hangs a 600 lb. stained glass chandelier. It was one of the last movie palaces to be built before the great depression.

I feel so lucky to have this film show up today -- it's a gift! Thank you! I've always been a fan of R.D.. This production was first-class. 🎉🏆
the editing, the sound, the camera shots, David's explanation, truly incredible!
I worked for True for a while in Pebble Beach I was so happy to see this ❤
Hi. Al also appeared in Buster’s _The “High Sign”_ and we get another glimpse of him in _The General_ when he is to our left of Dev Jennings who gives the order for the engine to cross the burning bridge.
I found myself here to learn more about Charlie. I appreciate Rena's concise expertise on the silent film era. It was a pleasure to hear what Dan Kamin had to share, and the concept video of "Funnyman" was a nice surprise. I hope everything works out for both of you on the film. P.S. I was impressed with Dans tech knowledge on Zoom haha. Keep making content Niles.
A very good explanation to a biographical famous life😊
😊
Great!

Thanks to the Niles Film Museum for screening my short tribute film. The event looked amazing! Till next year 🎥🌹🙏
Thanks for sharing! The Chaplin impression films were enjoyable with Rod Lara doing an especially fine job 👍👍
Thank you so much, Diane. Much appreciate your compliment. Glad you liked my short film 🎥🎬🙏🌹
These are so well done!
This is awesome! Thank you!
I was already aware of Jason's remarkable involvement in lending his voice to the book "Shadow and Substances," but the revelation of him embodying all 44 voices is utterly astounding. I initially presumed that such a diverse array of characters would require a multitude of actors. However, the notion that Jason singularly brings life to each of these personas is a testament to his unparalleled talent and dedication. Moreover, the profound significance of him resurrecting Charlie through his voice resonates deeply with Chaplin enthusiasts like myself. It transcends mere admiration; it encapsulates a profound connection to a beloved figure of cinematic history. Jason's ability to evoke such sentiment through his craft is truly remarkable, and its impact on devoted fans cannot be overstated. Thank you Jason!
Thank you for this.
Thank you!
Its a nice excuse but a lazy one. Blaming technology is an easy cop-out for things that have stagnated. Like high streets whining about E-Commerce. Fail to prepare = prepare to fail.
Jason as the Tramp was simply breathtaking
I was so in love with Johnny beginning with the Rifleman. He was my age ,but died to young.
Never heard of babe london until recently. Loving her story
In 1920 age 44
Very interesting, thanks!
❤
Johnny was a talent! Family watched the Rifleman each week growing up! Loved his music, his teen songs and big band later. He always seemed to be a gentleman and good human being! Rip.
This is a captivating early look at a star like no other. Almost every photo of Valentino is after his rise to mega stardom. Even these later photos of Valentino are ones i haven't seen before. This is tabtamount to having dozens of private photos of Elvis Presley. Yes, Valentino, was that big a star. The reaction of fans at his funeral was almost exactly the same as it was for the King of Rock and Roll. A total of 100,000 people were stampeding at Campbells Funeral Parlor in New York!! Rudy a legend beyond his own time.
Hi David..... I was looking you up to see what's become of you because you were in a story I was telling to a friend, about one of the worst humans I've ever known... Joe Giacchino... and wondered where you had gone and what you had become because you were and seemingly still are, one of the better beings. And to my wonderful delight I seem to have received a remarkable fabulous and funny story from you about your grandfather and his pal Charlie, and how you've continued to be you in part because of them. Thank you for sharing this and am hoping that footage shows up one day in a weird can filled with snips. John Markarian...
Are they on YT?
He fell in love with the wrong woman. She used him and when she had gotten everything she could from him, she abandoned him and moved on. He adored her til the day he died. She broke his heart.
I’d pay good money to see the 4 hour cut of ‘Chaplin’ regardless of what shape it’s in. I’d take a VHS quality work print! However, a 4K rescan of the theatrical cut would be something too! This film got me into Chaplin, so whatever Dickie wishes he’d done better it will always be a masterpiece to me.
Sainted Devil pictures?
Do you know who the actor playing the suitor who replaces the bullets is?
Oh my gosh !! So interesting. Thank you!!
DUMB !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A pretty interesting version of this movie. Mr. Hodges' music was excellent! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Vicar of Wakefield's by Oliver Goldsmith. (I still love Thanhouser's films.)

I suspect that the majority of your comments are from those of us of a certain age. Born and raised in Toronto, I spent many evenings in such movie palaces; Rialto, Odeon, Pantages, Tivoli, Biltmore... All gone. But the few that remain show younger generations the grand scale and social status once held by the silver screen.
