Green Lady Urban Farm
United States
Registrace 3. 04. 2012
Geeky Xennials trying to make it work a small urban lot (0.19 acre) , zone 6b, 3k altitude desert in Central Oregon. We have an 85 day frost free season, so WHEN things work, we are very excited.
Because our gardening season is so bad, we focus on meat and eggs. Eventually, we hope to have it figured out. 🖖🌞

Did you inoculate the mulch with wine cap?
Yep in a few places but this one has taken the best. 🍄
I really needed this video. I love your videos even tho I’m in Austin
Thanks! Can I ask what you enjoy about them? Feedback is greatly appreciated. 💜
Hello mam give me one plant please
I don't sell them. You'll have to find one. Sorry.
@@GreenLadyUrbanFarm 😭😭😭
Thank you so much for this informative video! I have some huge mallow in the garden right now, and thought to myself why do I keep fighting it?! Maybe it can be eaten or drank in tea! Sure can be used for both, I’m heading out to pick and dehydrate now ❤
Very cool!
If you sign up for a website some will let you sell off your website. Not sure how feasible that is. I have staghorn somac that has easily taken over an acre of my 23 acres property. I’m not sure if you really want to introduce a “breeding pair” of them 🫣
Yeah, they run. I'm awair it's so dry here tho that they struggle unless they are near water. I do need to really think about it tho. Don't want a major problem. 😅
Please let me know if you can think of any web page that can be used like etsy but isn't etsy for plants, seeds, and crafts. Thanks.
I want to know too.
That's dandelion
Nope. It's not, dandelion dosen't have thorns. 🖖
I adore your videos here and on tiktok! They're currently getting me through the small amount of downtime that i have as I prep for my wedding this weekend. I'm a permaculture hobby homesteader and your content is part of what inspired it, so I just wanted to give you a little appreciation for sharing what you do!
❤️ thank you. That made me smile... and choke up a tiny tad. 🖖😅
Ohh and congratulations on your wedding. Blessing and best wishes ❤️💜❤️
Always glad to see a video, it's my preferred form of content these days. But I'm active on the FB group, so it's all good either way. Just went and found you on IG and followed. Also, double thumbs up for the duckling content!
Cool! Tell me who you are on FB... names are problems, remember? 😂 I'f you don't wanna say just dm me. 🖖😉
@@GreenLadyUrbanFarm No worries, I'm Coda.
@bearlybegun4415 hello! ❤️😂
After how many days she delivered after this behaviour?
It can be as long as 2 weeks or as little as 6hours.
This was filmed over 20mins. Sorry about Merlin (my dog) being loud. 😅
Breed?
Meat mutts
😍 we have the same style. Wild! My gardening friends don’t understand. 😅
❤
And happiness is rabbits. Happiness is shoveling rabbit manure and cuddling kits. ❤ There is something so magical about the circle of life playing out in the garden and rabbitry.
100% agree!
It looks amazing! That is so inspiring!
Thank you!
What kind of paint do you use in there? (The violet bits)
Ohh that's just painted wood. 😅
The buzzing is a bee playing in the mulberry tree over this nest.
Hello there friend. I was just wondering if you can do a video showing how you set up on the duck pond .?? from this video it looks like there’s a little ramp? I live on the desert and I’m using those little plastic kitty poles for my two ducks .. thank you
Sure I'll see if I can do that this weekend. 🖖
That is wild! I get my seeds from them always and my last batch none of them germinated!! I did eventually get credit for them but you are right about jumping through hoops to get it! Sounds like they had issues with their seeds or something!
Yeah I've never had a problem. I'm confused.
Ooooo I break out in large raised itchy painful welts that last for weeks when I get too much sun! I always wondered if I was allergic!
Yep. I blister in just a few mins of high uv.
Its been a long since you didn't post the long video of your rabbit colony I miss it.❤
Hopefully soon.
gotta love Merlin :)
Love him, but he is also a terror. 😅
so clever!!
😊
😂
Looking gorgeous 😍
Aww thanks. I'm excited to see how this litter turns out. Especially that one I picked up with the mask.
@@GreenLadyUrbanFarm I wonder how it would look like
We will see ♥️
It's been 28 days already? Time Flies!
Yeah I was surprised as well! I did have a reminder set on my phone to start looking for his kits that went off yesterday, so little man got straight to business when I put him in. 😅
The mention of "New Mexico Olive" piqued my curiosity. Turns out that, indeed, it is a true olive and the fruit is "edible" but like all the other olives it has oleuropein that makes it really bitter. However - just like all the other olives - the oleuropein is water soluble and you can get it out of the fruit, producing the various kinds of olives ready for eating that many of us know and love. I had no idea that there might be a variety of olive that was hardy in zone 6. Which leaves the question, does the New Mexico Olive produce fruit of a size and quantity to be worth the processing? ;)
Exactly. The olive and the utah serviceberry are more for the birds, but I'm interested in playing around with them.... in a few years. 🖖😉
Oh interesting! I never thought of olives as something the average gardener could actually DO.
@Karoline_g they are a very narrow climate plant. Hot & dry but not big temp swings. Arid coastal seems to be the range. That's why the new mexico privet us so interesting to me. We will see if it works. 🤞
I adore Merlin :)
I gave him a duck treat each time someone brings him up in the comments. He appreciates you! 🖖😉
@@GreenLadyUrbanFarm *laugher* oh he is going to be spoiled then. Such a gorgeous boy.
This is how I want to do it for sure I’m trying to educate myself. I’ve never done this before my ass went out and bought a whole bunch of Bunnys. I’ve had it for about a week we can have. I got a lot.
That's probably for the best. Start small and learn as you go. Everything is climate & site dependent.
I love bare root planting every spring. I've got a half acre and after 14 years I keep thinking I've run out of places to add new trees. But then I see a few at the garden center and I find spots to squeeze them in. I've gotten creative with pruning and keeping things tightly organized.
Pruning trees to fit a space is fun if you ask me. 😅😉
I've had great success using a second hand plastic olive barrel (55 gallon drum type item) as an outdoor worm farm. This is in Sonoma, California so our winters are mild. I installed a spigot near the bottom of the barrel to remove liquid as needed. It's super high nitrogen fertilizer that gets mixed with water and used in the garden.
That would be a nice set up. I'm hoping the heat and cold are okay for this freezer. 🖖🪱
Hey thats my question! 😁 Thank you for the video. It was super informative. And a reminder to start foraging now that i have green stuff again...
Glad I found your Chanel! I don’t know how to cook rabbit but I e heard it needs to be boiled first. Is that true?
No. I have never boiled rabbit. It needs to rest after dispatch for a few days or it can be very chewie. One of the reasons grinding works great is you don't need to rest at all.
if you smoked and watch your video, its hard to follow at some point :D awesome plants, one not autoflower flowerd now and was planted in february, any suggestions? its just one strain, the other one from february is going accordingly and is not flowering
If it's a photoperoid plant, it won't flower until the daylight hours are good for it. 12 hours daylight and 12 hours dark is the start normally. It may reveg if it started flower. This is all outdoor, indoor the light schedule is you to you.
@@GreenLadyUrbanFarm yes mine are also outdoor, i just wondered why it starten flowering this early, its just a 30cm plant. I live in South Spain and this is my second season growing. You recommend cutting/trimming it so it can reveg?
I love this time of year! I'm fortunate to be able to forage for my rabbits and I call spring "free food season" I also feed lots of fir branches in the winter. Curious, where do you buy your pumpkin seeds? Are they raw?
I get them either from a little carnicerias down the strees (South American butcher shop) they would provide be labeled as pepitas, or you can find them on Amazon. They are raw and un salted. 🖖
Yes, Merlin marked the colony corner when I let him in. 😅 I dont see it it as a big deal when it's done occasional because it helps keeps predators out.
We tried this with an add on Kitchen Aid grinder and the meat came out very mushy, hardly any shape to it. Do you have any recommendations? Or do you get a better shape from a higher end grinder?
Check and see if you can find a larger holed grinding plate. Some come with two sizes (or more) use the largest size one.
Always nice to see an update, and a duck sighting! I would love to see more about your ducks. I had six, until the big storm in January (I'm on the other side of the Cascades from you). Predators. Haven't replaced them yet.
Sorry to hear about your birds. One of the girls is sitting on a clutch now. I'll see if I can get an update video on them soon.
How big is the main area and the grow out pens?
The grow out pens are 75sf and 100sf. The main colony is a very odd shape, but the best I've been able to measure and estimate is 700sf-800sf. Math is not my forte. 😅
Rabbit meat is excellent. Never heard of grinding it though. My mother always fried it in a cast iron skillet. 🙂
It's good lots of ways.
Curious to find out how those things do for you! Best of luck! Its so fun to get new trees/plants!
Thank you. Should be interesting as we got 5 inch of snow today. 😅
Why did you add the beef? Is it necessary??
No, not necessary, but you do need to add fat or some kind of binder. Otherwise, rabbit is so lean it won't hold patty shape.
awesome.. I will try it if God wills ... in Egypt you will make some money for a rabbit farm💪
Thank you, this helps out a lot!
Ugh they're so stinking cute
I just realized halfway through that you didn't add any fat.
I mostly don't when I grind. I may mix in some if I need it for what I'm making. The Hamburger here are mixed 50/50 with beef so it's not necessary in this recipe, especially with the egg working as a binder.
@@GreenLadyUrbanFarm Oh, I didn't hear you say there was beef in it.
Great video! I'm glad I found your channel!
🖖🐰
I have had a disaster with persistent herbicide damage from hay and I wondered how you make sure your hay is not poisoned
Just ask when I buy it. The place I get it from is really good.
Someone in a rabbit colony group said "wet staw is heavier then an Amish afghan" 😂 Ive been tring to spot clean every week to cut down on letting bedding pile up. I throw my back out every year when i clear the goat pen of deep beddig.
Ha! That's a great expression 😄 I'm filling my 2 new strawberry 🍓 beds with this slop and some top soil. I'm now 12 wheelbarrow deep from when I started. Think I'm gonna have more than last year. 😅
