TJ's Modeling Bench
United States
Registrace 20. 01. 2024
I've been a modeler since about the age of 7 (born in 1971) in various forms. Plastic models is where I started, but I've dabbled in several things (rockets, R/C airplanes, HO trains). Plastic models took a back seat to everything else for many years. R/C airplanes got too expensive and too weather dependent. But I still needed a creative outlet, and I had most of the requisite supplies/tools, so plastic came back to the forefront. I'm a USAF Veteran and my primary interest has always been airplanes. I had a forced career change when I was furloughed in 2020. Now I work as a distribution center driver for one of the large, nationally known auto parts suppliers. As a result, automobiles have taken on a new interest for me. I hope you'll join me as I build my models and maybe I can share some of my knowledge with you. But I'm no expert and I'm always learning something new myself. So please, subscribe to catch any new uploads, give it a "Like" if so inclined, comment, and share.
Sorry for the lack of content this week.
My sister and her kids are here visiting and I haven't been able to spend any time at the bench. Family has priority. Sorry. Expect more soon though.

AMT 2017 "Fifty" Camaro Ep. 1
zhlédnutí 220Před dnem
Let's build a more modern Camaro. This is AMT's 1:25 2017 "Fifty" Camaro, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Chevy Camaro. Detail-wise it's a pretty good kit. But there's a lot of cleanup to do; lots of flash! I'm going to build it "Out Of Box" or "Box Stock", but I'm going to add my own twist on the interior and exterior colors; something you couldn't get from the factory.
Revell 1:24 1985 Camaro Z28 Completed!
zhlédnutí 807Před 14 dny
The final reveal of the Revell 1:24 1985 Camaro Z28 finished to look like the 1:1 1983 Z28 I owned when I was first in the USAF! The model looks way better than my 1:1 did; it was six years old when I bought it.
Revell 1:24 1985 Camaro Z28 // MCW Paint

Laid down a beautiful metallic brown lacquer from MCW Automotive Finishes and covered it with their gloss clear. And used Tamiya Acrylic paints to detail the engine compartment. I hope you enjoy it.

Painting the Chevy 305
zhlédnutí 122Před měsícem
After spraying the chassis with Mr. Mahogany Surfacer 1000, I began to mask for spraying the base colors for the transmission and engine block. Once the entire block and tranny (top, bottom, left, and right) got their base colors sprayed, I began to paint individual components with various Tamiya Acrylics.
Modeling My First Car // Revell's 85 Camaro Pt. 1
zhlédnutí 431Před měsícem
Modeling the first car I ever paid my own money for. Though mine was a 1983, and I bought it in 1989! The Revell 1:24 1985 Camaro Z28 will be a pretty close match; close enough for me anyway. Even though Revell lists this kit as a Skill Level 4, I don't think it's too much for a seasoned modeler. A Novice may have some difficulties, but I'll address any complications as we run into them. Stick ...
AMT 1980 Dodge D-50 Final!
zhlédnutí 161Před měsícem
Did a little experimentation with faded clear coat and I think it turned out well. Then proceeded to weather it even more using oil paints and weathering powders. It may be a 1980, but I'm setting it in 1984'ish with a lot of hard miles on her. I hope you enjoyed the build. Like. Subscribe. Leave a comment. tjrohyans@comcast.net
Let's Add Color (Part 2) / AMT 1980 Dodge D-50.mp4
zhlédnutí 70Před 2 měsíci
In this episode I've added the trim stripe(s) to the body. I got a little bleed under of the masking tape that required some cleanup. But all in all it adds to the patina I'm after with the finished model.
Let's Add Color! (Part 1) // AMT 1980 Dodge D-50
zhlédnutí 86Před 2 měsíci
It's time to get the body of the truck painted! MCW Finishes "Lemon Twist" (7053) Gloss Lacquer is the primary color coat. Sprays beautifully with a 0.3 airbrush tip and about 18 PSI.
AMT 1:25 1980 Dodge D-50 Interior

To create a used and abused pickup truck, it's a must to have a dirty interior. I've used oil paints to really "dirty up" the "office".

Bed given dents, dings, and scratches. Then the exterior was primed. Interior got assembled and painted, but it looks too new. Stay tuned for the next video when we take it to 1984!

Very clean! Amazing work buddy!❤
@@morketthedarkspirit285 Thank you.
Good looking Camaro TJ! Just subbed ya brother 👊🏻 #under1000gb24
@@modelspeedshop Thanks! 😎
Nice progress on the Camaro. Looking forward to seeing the color!👍
Its a nice kit, I've built it twice. Fits together nice. Flash is no big deal
Not a big deal, but not expected in a newer kit like this.
You must have had a better kit than mine. As the fit was terrible. It doesn't sit properly at all l was very disappointed in it😡
@@user-bf1sd3mm7m Either I got lucky, or you got unlucky. But so far mine is coming together well.
@@user-bf1sd3mm7m fit just fine for me. Can't see how its a better kit, they're all the same.
@@TJsModelBench-jb4xt Must have been me. I just couldn't get it to fit or sit correctly😫
Making nice progress buddy, the Revell Camaro is a nicer kit, shouldn't be flash on a kit that new
Great build. Nice color and detail
@@BOBFALPHA1 Thank you. Welcome.
Great job TJ. Especially I love interior!
Thank you my friend.
Great video. I’m a new subscriber and I really enjoyed your video. Fantastic job on the Camaro.
@@PatricksScaleModelShop Thank you. Welcome!
great color choice
good tip, going the extra step for detail is always worth it
I think it is gorgeous. I wish my MOPARs looked that good.
Gorgeous Camaro, TJ!😎👍 Brings back memories of my friend's 83 Camaro Z28.
@@1968fordman Thanks. Mine didn’t look near as good. I think I was the 6th or 7th owner and it showed. 😂
@TJsModelBench-jb4xt Lol, my friend's wasn't the best either. It was white, but someone painted it a dark green just over the white. A real cheap paint job and had the crossfire 305. A real dog, but a fun car!
Looks great!
Thanks!
Beautiful Camaro!!! Great build!!
Glad you like it. Thanks.
Turned out awesome TJ
Thank you.
Your Camaro turned out beautiful TJ! It's definitely a great representation of an original! Awesome detailing! 😎👍
@@theintake8961 Thanks man. I appreciate it.
nice camaro
@@Anarecktor Thank you.
don't shoot the messenger but aren't the electric window lift switches on the center console just behind the shifter? beautiful job on the interior. if you have a window tint place and stop by and ask they would probably give enough film to do every car you got or raid their trash can
@@phantom629 Possibly so; but mine, and this model don’t have electric windows. 😉 I used Tamiya Smoke to “tint” the rear window.
Cool color! Looking great!👍
Thanks.
Nice color, looking really good buddy
Thank you.
Body color is gorgeous, is that local brand in us??
Thank you. Yes. You can find it online, but I don’t know if they ship overseas.
You came up with an arm rest like I did. I made mine a little thinner so the seats would fit. I think yours look better. You did a great job. Going to sub so I can follow this build
Thank you. Here I thought I had an original idea. 😂
I recently finished this kit on my channel. I really liked it, even if it is really simple. Looking forward to seeing your build
Awesome work on the armrest and door handles👍
Thank you.
Really nice work on the interior, 😎👍✌️
Thanks man. I seem to do well with interiors. Too bad so much of it can’t be seen when it’s finished. Now to get a good exterior finish!
Nice haul! Love those signs!👍
😉 Thanks.
Great video! Thank you for sharing and your service!👍 Occasionally I listen to music at the bench, I'm a huge metal head, but also listen to classic country. Both my parents listened to it, so it always brings back great memories of them
Similar for me. I’m primarily a Classic Rock and 80’s Pop/Rock guy, but obviously the Golden Oldies too. I also really like Classic Country, 90’s Country, and I bought a banjo a few years ago to learn Bluegrass on (still don’t really play. And I blame it (😁) on watching “Bonanza” and “Hee Haw” all the time growing up!
Thank you for sharing your story. I know its not always easy. Hang in there.
I don’t like having to take medications everyday, but they help immensely. Thank you.
Big hug from korea😊
Thank you.
Great progress, engine is looking good!👍
Thank you.
I love modelmaster colors but hard to find in South Korea now 😢
Hard to find in the USA as well. My collection is at least 20 years old.

That sucks about the engine in that kit. Hate when they do that. I love Tamiya paints, can't find Mr Hobby anywhere. It's either out of stock or overpriced. Thank you for the video👍
You’re welcome. Thank YOU for watching. 😉
My Ma&Pa Hobby shop carries the Mr Hobby stuff, Ill have to grab a can and try it, absolutely love the Tamiya thin grey and white. hey, just a friendly fyi? your videos audio is really low/quiet. Maybe try "speaking to the back row" when recording?... :)
Put some bass in it son! lols
Hmm 🤔 that's odd because when I'm editing the video it's decently loud. I'm watching it now myself on YT, and you're right, it is softer than it should be. Thanks for the feedback. 👍
@@TJsModelBench-jb4xt If you're getting good levels in your editor, maybe just pot them up a little. The p[layback monitors are key, I keep mine set at a pretty high volume so I can be sure to hear.
@@TJsModelBench-jb4xt YT is also famous for over compressing everything too so that cant help...
Cool techniques. I just subscribed
Thanks! 👍🏻
That turned out awesome! The bent frame actually adds to the worn out look!😎👍
Thanks. If it weren’t for the twisted frame making it sit awkward, it’d be contest worthy IMO. It was a fun build.
Very nicely done just subbed
Thanks man! I appreciate it.
New sub here. It's looking real good so far. Great job on masking the stripes.👍
Thank you. Welcome.
Great build to work on your striping skills. I think it is going to look great. This is a very interesting video! Thanks 😎👍
Thank you. I appreciate the comments.

Welcome!
The color looks good 👍 Nice attention to detail on the bay as well.
Thanks. I appreciate it.
Nice tutorial. My only complaint would be the audio was very hard to hear. Otherwise, it's very informative and well done.
Thanks. I was speaking a little too softly. I don't usually have that problem. Lol!
@TJsModelBench-jb4xt That's understandable. A/V issues happen to all of us at some point. I got you subbed see more of your work.
