Kit Masters - Fan Clutch Experts
kit-masters.com
Kit Masters, Inc. manufactures heavy-duty aftermarket components, specializing in remanufactured fan clutches, rebuild kits and accessories.
Kit Masters was founded in 1996, in the garage, by the father and son team of Keith and Darrin Swanson. From the first day the two entrepreneurs were guided by these principles:
Manufacture the highest quality products possible. Never sacrifice quality for the sake of cost or speed. They understood the market was accustomed to generally good components, and they also witnessed other aftermarket companies struggle to provide lesser quality products solely on the basis of price. Keith and Darrin were determined to provide a “better than OEM quality replacement for OEM.” They achieved this by focusing on the individual components. “If attention, research, and testing is applied to each individual component, and each individual component is produced with better quality, then the finished product will be produced with better quality.”
Be the technical experts. In an industry where aftermarket fan clutch products were often being provided as but one small part of a company’s larger offering, Kit Masters endeavored to become experts in both their products and their market.
Be easy to do business with. Commonly stated but rarely practiced. Kit Masters sought the advice of our distributor colleagues. We structure our policies to support our customers. Same day shipping, 99% fill rate, low freight prepaid policy, easy core policy, easy warranty policy, and a user friendly catalog are only a few examples. It is our natural reaction and desire to say “yes” to our customers. We’ve added regional warehouses across the country to further assist our customers make great profits and excellent inventory rotation.

If you don't have a workshop and a press, do not even attempt doing it on your own. It's nowhere near as easy as shown in the video. I am 100% sure the clutch was disassembled and reassembled prior filming. It is literally impossible to take the thing apart without cutting off the bearings. Wish you didn't make the video, seriously.

I knew that it had its own fluid that self contained but I never understood the principles in which it acts. Very simple system. No wonder fan clutches last for years before needed to be changed. Still going to convert my Tahoe to electric fans but now I understand how the mechanical clutch works. Thank you for this. Very informative.

3:15 how does the fluid get pumped back into the reservoir? I don't get it...I would have thought that the centrifugal forces are so high, that the fluid only comes back into the reservoir, when you switch off the engine?

These guys don’t know there own product and don’t stand behind it. I bought one for my peterbilt 379 with cat motor. I drive local stop and go 70k pounds. The fan worked incredible. Always kept truck cool without second stage needing to come on even with a/c on. Then after 30k miles, the first stage stopped working all together. Barely spins at all. Now the second stage always engages to bring the temps down. I’d say it’s on 50 Percent of the time. Nothing wrong with my cooling system or a/c. Like I said the first stage no longer working. Kitmasters reaponse after calling all the time “not sure what would cause that, take fan clutch off and send back”. Yeah ok, shut my truck down for a couple weeks and lose money right? How about send me a new fan and I ship the old one back so you can evaluate. Guess I’ll have to switch to hornton 2 speed

So it’s like a thermostat activated locking torque converter. Crazy shit how much engineering goes into something as dumb as a fan.

Nice! Having mostly worked on motorcycles and VWs I was wondering what that spring was for. I was told that the viscous fluid was temp sensitive, activating the drive by thickening to transfer the power (as viscous couplers work in some all wheel drive systems).

I used one Kit Masters Horton Fan clutch rebuild kits on my 3406e Cat from Southern Electric in Conley Georgia & that was a beautiful kit & saved me a nice chunk of change too🥰👍🏿 Shout out to Dale at J&J truck repair for telling to buy it there & then he installed it for me for a great price! All together buying the reman plus install still came in under the price of a new one that wasn't a Horton Clutch! I get all my starters & alternators from Southern Electric & that's not often because they rebuild them to last👍🏿

Anyone with an 05 Aviator. If your car roars and revs high all the time change your fan clutch because it’s stuck. Four Seasons makes a great one that will give you some extra mpg.

Mercedes diagnosis question. Visco fan clutch is attached to water pump pulley. When motor is shut off and hot, fan should still be engaged and difficult to turn because belt tension is holding water pump pulley. When motor is cold, fan clutch should free wheel with little resistance. Is this correct?
