The other day I was tacet for the entire choir number. T-bones laughed at me for playing clash of clans during the rehearsal of said piece. At the end of the day we tuba players have a very good PPN. (Pay per note)… I mean… if we actually are being paid 😆

The conductor is definitely slowing the piece down, because my God, the original tempo is difficult even for the most elite orchestras. In regards to the piece, it's great to have that low-end support from the Tuba (and the Gran Cassa, Contra Bassoon, and others?). Williams did a masterful job writing this triumphant theme. His Nightly News Theme and Sunday Football Themes are the hidden gems of a series of compositions he was contracted to write for NBC.

honestly i feel kinda bad because all you did was just *bwamp* *bwamp* *bwamp* the whole song but honestly that helps the band a lot, and you did really well

We were gonna play this in wind ensemble but my band director decided not to because the percussion barely plays. I was taking the Eb down an octave because I would listen to recordings and all the tuba players would do that and I thought it sounded cool

I play tuba in concert band, in middle school. I was supposed to be in symphonic, the 2nd advanced band of 3, but there was 4 tubas while only 2 in concert.

When i played tuba in highschool, i trained myself to semi-nap in band, but still somewhat be listening so that I don't miss when I have to come in/play with the band. Also, if we played the piece enough/if it was simple enough to memorize, I would also just close my eyes and "rest" while playing. It also helped that we were given comfy/soft chairs to sit on instead of the hard plastic chairs that everyone else had to sit on.

In my freshman year we played the star spangled banner in b flat by paul lavender. The tuba part was so pretty in it. I miss that version of it so much.
