The Sunshine Man

I’ve been writing songs for years. Following my muse…trying to get the sound that’s on all those classic records from the 60s and 70s. l've read books, watched videos, learned from Alan Parsons, Michael White, Pat Pattison.
In 2017, I found that drummer Kenny Aronoff was available to play on my songs. Really?! Kenny Aronoff?! I scrambled to prepare a song for Kenny-and The Sunshine Man project began. Since then, we’ve recorded the basic tracks for 26 songs.
This is the most fun I’ve had playing music. Are we getting that sound? I think we might be getting that sound. Look for 3 or 4 new songs each year. Upcoming releases will feature guest musicians on horns, piano, guitar and vocals. My goal is to connect with 1,000+ true fans.

Do you keep it in standard tuning and does it hold? Or do you keep it in Eb or D standard?
Standard tuning for me almost always. I occasionally loosen the strings to take the tension off the neck. I probably should do that more often. The tuning and intonation have been right on as far as I can tell. I asked for TLC on the setup because I was recording stuff and they came through. 🎸😎👍

In person, although it's a jumbo size...does the thinner body style give it a thinner sound?
For me, it’s a rich, well-balanced sound across all the frequencies. It’s not bass heavy. It doesn’t sound tinny at all. Just a rich, Martin sound.

Hi Melody, I love how these pickups sound. There’s a fair amount of variety from position to position. All 5 positions are useful. I recorded a bunch of guitar tracks with this Strat in December and January-it sounds fantastic. 🎸😎👍

Hey Guitar man it's Howard H. Got one for you to try out . I heard Jerry Reed do some real good picking on electric with the song Snowbird Anne Murry recorded. It moves right along, will give a challenge if you can pick out the notes and jump the chords it to. Give er a try

Nice job! I'd recommend adding a little more context before you start playing for a future video. Maybe start the track a couple of bars before you come in so there's enough time for the viewer to orient themselves in the song.

Wow... i am really temped. This is amazing for price too. Currently $2099. My concern is setup. What did you think of the factory setup?
Hi gh, I’m happy as can be with my purchase. I bought from Wildwood Guitars in Colorado. I requested specific strings (.008s, I think) and Wildwood set it up for me. I wouldn’t necessarily expect a good setup from any factory these days. My Jeff Beck Strat here is excellent. All quality parts. Sounds great. The neck pickup is my favorite. Cheers, Lance 🎸😎👍
Thanks so much for this clear and easy to follow coverage of the song. As an elderly (and beginning) guitar player I really appreciated it. For what it's worth, I played the bagpipes back in the day and it's a very limited (if extremely powerful) instrument. As I recall, it's only capable (believe it or not) of playing nine notes (with no sharps or flats). This runs from G to A. So I think the harmonies of the song were created with that very much in mind.

Why you playing Jeff Becks strat like Django
I just looked up this guitar on Sweetwater. Fingerboard is made of katalox. Never heard of katalox before. So...at first, I think it must be synthetic, like Richlite. But nope. The stuff below is NOT from Sweetwater. Just random search results. "Although not a true Diospyros ebony species, Katalox earned its "Royal Mexican Ebony" nickname due to its great density (which actually supersedes all true ebonies, in that regard) and the fact that, as it ages, it turns considerably darker than when its initially cut and dried." And, there's this: "Just turned this Katalox bowl yesterday; smells like bacon bits and definitely called for a respirator (nose lining started burning when I first rounded the blank without a respirator)..." So, it's denser than ebony and smells like bacon. Sounds like a win-win. (Actually...the whole guitar is kind of the color of bacon....) And finally: Katalox wood is a rare and beautiful hardwood that grows in the tropical forests of Mexico and Central America. The tree can grow up to 100 feet tall and produces a reddish-brown wood that is prized for its durability and strength. This wood is often used in high-end furniture and cabinetry, as well as in flooring and other woodworking projects.

2. Yes. During part of the 90’s, early 2000 he used a surf green strat. Search here in CZcams videos with his band with Jeniffer Batten as second guitarist. Also, in the long tours co-billed with the Santana Band and SRV.

Thanks, William. That’s an Orange Micro Terror amp. I might’ve had a distortion pedal in the mix some of the time. I’m thrilled as can be with the Jeff Beck Strat. I would buy it again and I would buy it from Wildwood Guitars again. It’s not fancy it’s just a Strat that has been well made and cared for. I can’t imagine ever finding or wanting a better Strat. Rock on! 🎸👍
