Build an event registration Power App - Tutorial
In this demo I will showcase an end to end set of processes enabling a user to sign up for an event via a Microsoft Form, Power Automate and a Power App to validate a users attendance using QR Codes. As part two of this demonstration, I will then show you how to build the Power App to verify someone's registration and record their attendance.
The processes are as follows:
A prospective attendee will have already completed a Microsoft Form that has sent them an email with a QR code via Power Automate, as demonstrated here (PART 1) 🚨 czcams.com/video/jA3RpAV_I2M/video.html 🚨
The Power App will then be used to validate a QR code against a registered user, showing USER NOT FOUND for any QR Codes that are not recognised. The app operator will be able to record someone's attendance by pressing a button or validate existing validation with a date and time from their registration record stored in a SharePoint list.
Tutorial Overview:
00:00 - Intro
00:10 Recap of the process to register and validate
01:28 Building a blank canvas app from scratch
04:08 Creating a User Defined Function
05:26 Creating a modal popup
10:07 Creating a Status Icon
12:26 Patching a date/time to SharePoint
14:04 Creating a visibility variable
15:53 Testing out the app

Hello, I am new to Excel scripting, is there a way to copy certain cell text when filled and save as with this name - or vice versa (when I save the file with certain name, it grabs it and inserts into certain cell)? Thanks
Would this method include having live links from powerapps going to excel?
Can I do the same in regards to image uploads?
I’m afraid not. There’s not an easy way to embed images without a premium connector.
Thank you so much! Extremely helpful.
Inspiring! Thanks a lot :)
What if the first question was set for the person's name?
hi, the video is fantastic, but I'm unable to retrieve the attribute name. I'm getting an error stating 'property attributename does not exist'. I've verified the column name from the properties, but the issue persists. Additionally, I attempted to select columns using attributevalue and value without filtering, but encountered the same error.
Missed you, But good to have you back. Great video as always
Thank you Temidayo
I want to use a gallery, but also I want to display each question one after one. If only the first question is answered the user can skip to the second question. Can I do this with a gallery structure?
I tried similar steps for csv files in sharepoint. Great video! But I could use some help. I want to add multiple table row colors. Example: I have item A, item B, and item C. I’d like each to be color coded a different color. I cannot figure out how to input it after the 1st expression after <tr> and have it work. I appreciate any help!
Theoretically, can this be used with contains to update a records instead of create?
@@davidakridge2831 instead of an apply to each with a condition? Yes. 👍
@DamoBird365 I was thinking instead of does not contain in the condition, using contains giving me a list of those to update, but what ID do I use in selecting the record to update. Should i pull in title and ID in the previous steps? I would love to use this to create and update from one list to another.

For some reason all of the values I add from the second array all come up null. EDIT: I figured this out. You are merging two object arrays into another array, I only needed to merge one object into another array.
@@AdamHaas it’s because ? in an expression returns null if the path is not found. Most likely a typo in a key name or your expression isn’t quite right.
@@DamoBird365 I was converting my first array into an object needlessly. I just needed to make the second array in that format for the merge.

Hi Damien, nice videos, congrats, I have a challenge/query; I was able to create a simple API using Google Apps Script to read a QR code and from it go run a Google Apps Script that would return a couple of values from a Google Sheet, now, my current employer use Microsoft 365, to achieve the same I think the natural solution would be power automate but I'm discovering that to capture a http response you need a premium trigger, is there any workaround?
I don’t believe there is but you could ask on the forum.
Great Video 👏 what if want to change controls? Like date picker , drop down etc
You could duplicate the controls and only show the one relevant?
Lovely Video thanks for making this. Also, I have one query if we want to get the table by id then which approach should we use.Thx
This is brillant !!!! Working like a charm :) My question is: Can you add section with specific format? For example I would like section titles to be in bigger police and in blue
I think I found what I was looking for :)
I’m interested to know what you found as I didn’t think it would be possible with standard license. I don’t think word works with rich text either.
Actually i used your option 2 and simply applly color and font height in my word template. One for title and one for content
This was brilliant and I followed you every step and managed to set up my own quiz and was able to set up all the features you show. The only thing that did not work for me was the Patch to the original Responses List and also adding a new question in the list and then seeing it come through to the App. I did try the refresh of the source. Any ideas why that may be?
I’m not sure if I’m honest. You could ask on the forum.
Would it be possible to make a flow that automatically parses a csv of any size without having to adjust the flow?
An office script might do it. Or a custom connector. I know my pal Paul has one that might work tachytelic.net/2024/02/power-platform-csv-parsing/?amp
Thanks for this video! Your requirement is exactly the one I'm working to now, and I should be able to implement this solution with very few changes. This is about as complicated as I'd care to get, though. For greater flexibility & functionality, I'd definitely go with Power Apps.
I did attempt a basic power apps quiz for that reason: How to Build a Quiz App in Power Apps Canvas App #PowerApp #CanvasApp czcams.com/video/ci97zOlthlw/video.html
@@DamoBird365 Yep, I'm going to watch your Power Apps quiz video shortly. In the meantime, I applied your solution to my requirement and it's working perfectly! Your video also taught me a lot about composing and expressions, which I've been afraid of. I did come across one odd thing while testing. If the user fails to answer a question with multiple answers (checkboxes), the sort() function will fail. At first I thought it was just any null input that failed, as I originally said in this comment. Looking more closely, it appears that only the comparisons using sort() had a problem with null values. I know this condition isn't likely to happen in the real world. However, my users are experts at finding creative ways to break my apps and so I had to check. I guess the solution would be to mark checkbox questions Required. Or test the responses for null inputs and handle them in the flow. Anyway, highly unlikely but useful to know - just in case. Thanks again for this great video. On to Power Apps...
@@sbrutcher fantastic to hear about your success. Take a look at the coalesce expression. It could be used to return a fallback answer, like ‘no response’.

Thank you for this video. It definitely is way more efficient! Is there a way to look up 2 fields? Using your data if you want to look up Product Sold and Sales Person name and compare both fields in each list?
Sounds like a challenge. You could concat them maybe? I’ve not tried comparing objects but it might work. Let me know what you find.

Hi! Great explanation, I'm doing the same project for my company, however I'm facing a problem, my translator service runs normally but it seems that it doesn't put the converted file in the blob container, next, the http request keeps giving me statusCode as 200, but in the body i can see that the status is failed , with invalidDocument as code and the message: "Document failed during checking validity. This may be caused by corruption or unsupported type/extension. New offset cannot be less than 0. Value was -14 (Parameter 'offset')". Finally the flow blocks itself at the "Get BLOB content using path" since it cant find the document in the container. What do you think I should do to solve this? Thank you so much for your availability
Thanks for this great video! Do you possibly know why I dont see 'value' option in list rows present in a table? Only body and body/value
Maybe the new vs classic designer?

Any File Encoding = where is it ? did I miss it ?
My heads going to explode figuring this one out. I am trying to do something similar with an excel list and SharePoint list. I am trying to get ID numbers from the two (excel is the master) and if there is a match then look at the email addresses from the matched IDs only and if excel has a different email than my SharePoint one update it. How in the world do I accomplish this?
Great video. I have a couple of things. 1. The redirect URL changes when you update the connector and includes the name of the connector. So that URL needs to be copied and used in the App Registration in order to work. 2. Custom Connectors require a premium license!! So that is something to mention in the video. Perhaps an update on how to assign the license.
