Omelette from dehydrated eggs with mini Trangia
zhlédnutí 4,1KPřed 6 lety
When you have fresh eggs and a decent frying pan, basic omelette is one of the easiest dishes to prepare. Trying to prepare it from dehydrated eggs, with a mini Trangia camping stove, at -5 C (23 F) weather, may be not that easy. Do the rehydrated eggs stay in one piece when fried? Is the thin and flimsy Trangia frying pan too thin and flimsy for cooking those kind of things successfully? Well,...

Eggs are wonderful things. However, from a hikers point of view, there are some issues with them. a) they are somewhat delicate to handle (you know, all of your eggs in one basket etc.), b) in comparison to their nutritional value, they are rather heavy, and c) even though they stay good at room temperature for quite a while, it still would be nice to find a way to store them for a little bit l...

DIY Fire Starting Kit, a Modernized Version of Tinderbox

Before 1827, and the invention of friction matches by English chemist John Walker, a tinderbox was something to take with you when ever leaving the house. Bushcraft Cooking. Creamy Risotto with Mini Trangia

Based on the fact that failure to cook decent risotto seems to be one of the most common reasons of elimination of the competitors from TV shows such as Master Chef, Top Chef, and Hell’s Kitchen, the idea of making risotto in camping conditions, from dehydrated ingredients, with a Mini Trangia stove, must be doomed from the beginning. Great job. Not that I ever will, but one could make the weight holding green wood square and the pulling poles detachable (for example, the poles could screw off). Then they could serve as a small table and tent/tarp supporting poles if the trailer was used for hikes with overnight camping.

At first I questioned the use of a drill bit, as your steel scraper. But, they do have a hardened, sharp edges, and are easy to store in your tube. Which easily replaces a large knife! So, that is a pretty smart idea! I have seen people dip, their cotton, pads / disks in a can of melted wax. The wax seals the discs, and adds to a larger sparking area, and longer burn time. They just dry flat, and need a larger storage area.

👍👍👍. I have been recently experimenting with my Trangia Mini .. having filled the Burner with Ceramic / Glass Wool and then topped with a roll of Carbon Cloth. Why? Three things .. 1. Alcohol spillage and the associated fire hazard in the event of an inadvertent knockover. I have been using Glass Wool in my homemade Soda Can Burners and similar for some time now, with excellent results. The spillage hazard is greatly reduced with no discernible reduction of performance .. nothing over which to shed tears. 2. The Trangia can be used immediately without chance of the flame being 'snuffed' if a pot is placed on the pot stand / windscreen too quickly after lighting .. especially in cooler temperatures. 3. Heat. My Trangia goes into 'afterburner' mode after a while .. especially if an additional windscreen (by necessity) is used. Cooking up items that tend to stick to the pot bottom if not nursed becomes problematic .. even when using the Simmer Ring. Morning Oatmeal for me is vital .. or I cannot function for the rest of the day 😁. With the wool insert, the Trangia appears to burn more gently .. even after coming to a bloom .. and more so using the Simmer Ring. 'Time to a Boil'? This has never fussed me and if it takes a bit longer, so what? With the approach of Autumn and Winter, I'll be testing this new format in colder conditions. Not as cold as that in this Post, but Switzerland does get chilly at times. It should be interesting as to how the Trangia performs. My homemade Alcohol Burners have given me sterling service throughout Winter so I'm hoping that the Trangia will follow suit. Should anybody out there have already tried similar, please let me know .. thanks.

The 8MB of internal memory is the big limitation of the etrex 10. The closer you get towards using up the minuscule 8MB of memory, the less space you will have for waypoints, track logs, geocaching GPX files, POI files, etc. Staying at or below 6-7 MB is a safe bet. The 8 MB memory was just to allow a base map. You were intended to buy a 20 or 30 if you wanted detailed maps. Just something to be aware of.

I got my Mini Trangia in 1989 for backpacking long distance trails to replace a gas cannister stove mostly because fuel was easier to get hold of (there's nothing you can do with those in really cold weather as the cannisters depressurise). I've never gone back to gas, the Trangia always works. We don't get as cold in the UK, but at minus °C figures, I keep the burner containing alcohol in a pocket close to my body, and that works.
