In case no one mentioned it, the guys at South Park have nothing against Matt Damon. The problem was his puppet. They felt it looked "retarded", their words, not mine. So, each day on the set, they kept making fun of it. That's how it made its way into the movie.

Yes! I didn't catch this when you did it unfortunately, but super glad you did this one. This movie s a one liner master class.

This is a perfect movie. 90 minutes and so much story is packed into every second. We are given just enough exposition to follow the story. The cast is bomb proof, the music is flawless. Brandon Lee is a beautiful man and was coming into his own as an actor and looks perfect in the role. The relationship with Shelly we only see her for a few minutes but her presence is felt the entire film. It all comes together in just the right way.

Yes! One of my all time favorites! The first time I watched this was with some friends of mine and my grandmother. She would usually go do something else when we had a movie night, but for some reason she decided to watch this one with us. She hated if someone in the movies got hurt and would look away until it was over, but everything in this movie was so over the top she couldn’t look away. She actually liked it! Every time I watch it these days I think of her.

Very observants noticing the croissants pavements in Paris; here are a few more: * The engagement ring in Paris is handed by a human hand. * The slums in North Korea are made of Chinese takeout boxes and Japanese cocktail umbrellas. * The giant statue of Kim is actually a person, and it sometimes moves. * Gary is wearing a towel over his head in Cairo. * When Sarah shoots up the Cairo bar, she only hits the terrorists; the dancer, bartender, and other obvious civilians remain standing unperturbed. * The plants in Panama are marihuana and made from US Dollar bills. * There is a goldfish with the submarine (making it obvious the sub is toy-size). * Gary still has the suicide hammer with him when he is in the bar. * The prison bars in NK are made of pretzel sticks. * Spotswood always holds a glass with a drink; after he survives the bombing, the glass is broken, but he still holds it. (Later it is again whole). * Kim introduces himself at his "Peace Conference". * Kim's perch at the Peace Conference is decorated with missiles. * Zaire, One of the countries in the Peace Conference, was no longer called Zaire at the time the movie was made (it changed it's name to Democratic Republic of Congo in 1997). Also, one of my favorite moment, when Spotswood gives the suicide hammer to Gary, with everyone expecting something like a poison pill; the point is that poison can't hurt puppets, if you want to kill a puppet, a hammer is more appropriate. In the same vane, when Gary says that he is "all dead inside", that's exactly accurate, as he is a puppet -- appearing to be alive on the outside, while really dead on the inside. Dan.

The Matt Damon joke was completely on accident. The Puppet came out bad and they thought it looked like Damon with Down syndrome, so they made a joke of it.

I saw this movie when it came out back in the day. My little brother my friend and I were laughing so hard our stomachs hurt. What was even funnier is an older lady brought her kids/grandkids to see this movie. I remember her freaking out at the America fuck yeah song and then about ten minutes later they left right before the puppet love scene. We laugh extra hard when they got up and left. I love this movie. Matt and Trey are genius level in the art of satire. Yes I agree they are amazing song writers and don't get the credit they deserve. I'm glad you enjoyed this masterpiece of a movie.

This is a homage/parody to English Supermarionation which were action series and movies like Thunderbirds, Stingray, Captain Scarlet and Fireball XL5. They learned early on don't show the puppets walking cause its fucking weird.

Alec Baldwin makes it even weirder now past 2022

Book of Mormon is the best of the musicals I've seen from the past 20 years or so. Most other recent musicals that I've seen (not that many, to be honest) seemed half-baked and had low quality songs compared to musicals from the 50s through 80s.

Isn't the unicorn on your shirt from the animated film The Last Unicorn? Not a lot of people seem to know about that movie, especially Gen Z or even most millennials. Just surprised to see it, brings back a few memories from being young.

As a composer of musical theater songs myself, you are absolutely right! This team writes great songs. This movie, the South Park movie, in fact most of their projects could correctly be called musicals. No one ever calls them that, of course, lest anyone be scared off. But yes, they write great parody songs because... they know how to write great songs.

You posed the question why this film didnt perform at the box office?.....Principal photography started in Jun 89, at an old RAF airdrome, Binbrook, for a month, these were the exteriors(obviously..lolz) then three months down near London for the aircraft interiors, at the iconic Pinewood Studios, (James Bond) the Belle was 'rebuilt" into three sections on gimbles with blue screen surrounding. fast forward to Aug 1990, and 4 days before wide release, saddam hussein decided to invade kuwait, which kind of dampened enthusiasm for a air war film....PLUS, what was thought as a small film, "Home Alone" was released at the same time....and that sucked all the air out of the room, for a war film, as well as a real, potentially hellish Persian Gulf nightmare a-happening. That's what happened.....just pondering the 420 comments, marveling at the outpouring of sentiment, testimonies of loved ones, guessing 'who's who', enlarges my heart, and also gives me pause, the power of film. This power can be used in many ways, and its worrisome, but also a reflection of who we are. Okay that said, i remember July 89, London, BBC4 was airing the 7 part "Das Boot"...powerful work, i was envious.....the directors cut is a masterwork, you might want to give it a look see. Also, dearest RT, there is a war film, Russian, entitled "The Battle for Sevastopol"(2014) its about the deadliest sniper in WW2 history, a woman, Lyuda Pavilchenko, 309 kills, who is portrayed by russia's "Jen Lawrence", Yulia Persild....epic film RT, and as a woman, you might ask yourself, "in that situation, what would i do?" much love, neil

😄👍 What this, "Empire Records" and "The Big Lebowski" have in common are that they were complete flops in theaters, but have all more than made up for it over the years by somehow managing to garner huge followings on home video. 😸 If you liked this, then another film you will definitely enjoy is "Top Secret!" (1984) which was made by the same guys who made "The Naked Gun."
