Iceberg Effects Frits - stereo time modulator
zhlédnutí 566Před 21 hodinou
Iceberg Effects have been on a bit of a "modulation roll" recently, and their 'Frits' is their take on some of the oldest modulation effects around; those that came from playing around with reel-to-reel tape machines. These include; chorus, vibrato, flanging, and there's even a modulated slapback echo thrown in there for good measure! Besides that impressive range of effects, the Frits also boa...

The DC-3 is often overlooked and disregarded when it comes to discussions about chorus pedals; mostly due - I suspect - to the digital nature of this traditionally analogue effect. I own this pedal as well, I found it in my parent’s basement a couple years ago and it still works. It’s probably 30 years old at this point. It makes me laugh that I thought the “foot” design was cool at the time, it looks so silly now. The “testosterone” and “estrogen” switches kind of make me cringe too, and probably wouldn’t fly today. The pedal itself was ahead of its time though, I don’t think many if any wahs had this level of adjustability at the time. It’s basically a precursor to the Fulltone wah, the features are kind of the same.

Interesting he mentioned the Maxon CS-550, that is a brilliant chorus. Sounds wonderful. Worth checking out the DemonFX chorus - seems like an analogman chorus variant for like £35. Notable mention for me to the Fulltone (boo hiss etc) ChoralFlange. A really great stereo chorus.

    The Wave Crush is a classic, but the unfortunately discontinued Hotone Krush (which is essentially the same circuit) is even better, especially with its super fun shape and big top knob! Bitmap has endless sound sculpting possibilities, and a very intutive user interface. Ottobit is not so friendly with its boring alt knobs. But its filtered bit crush sound is king. And its stutter very useful to add wild variations to drum sounds. Own them both and they are keepers.

    • @PedalExperiments
      @PedalExperiments Před 13 dny

    Excellent comparison, thank you. I'm probably a sonicake/mooer guy? Filters before, filters after, trem before or after. I probably just want in to sit in the chain and do the thing... Obviously ottobit is it's own beautiful animal, but a lovely follow up video could just be the sonicake with your favourite simple delay/reverb/trem/filter/fuzz in various combinations, to showcase different uses of crush in context. I'd love that. I can imagine a lot of possibilities, and it would be fun to hear your take.

      @PedalExperiments I agree. Still bitcrushers are as varied as fuzz boxes. A 2 transistor fuzz face is totally different to a 4 transistor bigmuff and then there's always fuzz factories and everything in between. Most people tend to view bitcrushers as one but a harsh iron ether frantabit [ one of my favorites] is totally different to the sweet hexe bitcrusher ( another excellent one). Still the high pass resonant filter in the ehx makes it my go to bitcrusher [ the one I got the cheapest among my various bitcrushers]
